About the role 

Smart Works is looking to appoint a Head of London Service Delivery for 12 months, to start in September 2024. This is a maternity cover role for an established leadership role within the Smart Works staff team.

The Head of London Service Delivery is responsible for leading the delivery of the Smart Works service across London. Last year the Smart Works centres in London supported over 3500 unemployed women from across London, and the demand for our service is expected to rise significantly in the coming months.

By effectively leading and managing a team of nine, the Head of London Service Delivery will ensure Smart Works is well positioned to meet the growing demand for our services and maintain quality as the charity grows. They will ensure that every client who visits Smart Works leaves their appointment feeling confident and with the best possible chance of job success.

They will monitor performance against KPIs and will work with their team to ensure there is a steady flow of referrals, the volunteer community is engaged and supported and client feedback is consistently positive.

More broadly, the Head of London Service Delivery plays an important role in creating a welcoming environment and a supportive team culture in all three London centres. The successful applicants will need to build strong working relationships across the staff and volunteer teams, as well as with external partners and other senior staff working across the 11 centres across the UK.

Duties and responsibilities

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the successful candidate will lead a range of activities including:

• Being responsible for delivering a quality, consistent service across all three London centres; this includes the delivery of virtual appointments
• Leading and developing the Service Delivery team working in London, ensuring strong performance against targets and KPIs and creating a supportive team culture
• Representing London in group forums, sharing learnings and best practice with other Smart Works centres
• Acting as a key public brand ambassador for Smart Works Charity in London, especially within the referral partner community
• Day-to-day management of the client CRM system in London, ensuring complete and timely data capture
• Accountability for the management, retention, development and growth of London volunteer community
• Safeguarding Officer for London and the Smart Works Group

General duties of a Smart Works staff member

• Work collaboratively and cooperatively with all team members and take an active part in staff meetings and discussions
• Adhere to our policies and procedures and be an ambassador for our charity
• Play your part in ensuring that each woman who comes through our door is treated with respect and empathy

Benefits, terms, and conditions

• Full-time role
• Salary of £38,000 - £40,000 depending on experience
• Monday-Friday with typical working hours 9 am -5 pm in line with centre opening Hours. Whilst occasional work from home days can be accommodated, due to the nature of the role, it cannot bedone remotely. We are happy to discuss flexible working
• The role will be based across all three Smart Works centres in London, with the successful applicant being required to regularly spend time in all three centres. The centres are located in Islington, Ladbroke Grove and Croydon
• There may be occasional evening and weekend work as the successful candidate will be part of the wider centre team, supporting with networking and key events support
• 25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays and additional discretionary leave between Christmas and New Year

Key responsibilities

• Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement strategies and new initiatives to drive growth and innovation in the range of charity programmes we currently provide, drawing on sectoral insights and taking a user-led approach as much as possible.
• Programme Oversight & Line Management: Manage the delivery to a very high standard of all our charity capacity-building and training programmes, including being a highly effective line manager for our team of dedicated programme managers.

• Partnership Development: Forge effective partnerships with relevant stakeholders including other charities, infrastructure bodies like NCVO and ACEVO as well as delivery partners including Equally Ours and Climate Outreach, government bodies, and trusts and foundations.
• Representation: Represent Media Trust at charity sector conferences and other events and on social media, to raise awareness about Media Trust and our work.

What we are looking for in you

• Senior Leadership Experience: Proven track record of senior leadership in the charity sector, ideally at an infrastructure or membership organisation, including line management experience and responsibility for managing programme delivery and budgets.
• Training & Capacity Building Programme Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in designing, delivering and measuring the impact of training and other capacity-building programmes for charities and under-represented communities.
• Business Development: Demonstrated expertise in designing and pitching for paid for training and other services.
• Grant Writing Experience: Strong grant writing skills with a successful history of securing funding from diverse sources including government grants, trusts and foundations, and corporates.
• Charity Sector Knowledge: A strong understanding of the communications challenges charities are facing and what interventions are working/not working.
• Knowledge of Media & Comms Trends and Applicability to Charities: Knowledge of the latest media and communications trends and how we can work with our industry partners to ensure charities are using emerging platforms, applications, etc.
• Confidence in Public Speaking & Using Social Media: Experience of speaking at conferences and other public events and facilitating training for large groups. You will also be confident about using your social media profile to raise awareness about Media Trust and our work.
• Outstanding Communication Skills: Very strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively, with the ability to adapt tone and approach for different stakeholders.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen with a health membership charity for a Head of Finance and Operations on a full-time, permanent basis. You will manage all finance related activities including monthly management accounts and end of year statutory accounts. You will also manage payroll as well as some transactional HR to ensure prompt onboarding and issuing contracts. Additionally, you will manage outsourced contractors to deliver robust and reliable IT, CRM and audit services and all operational services to ensure the charity maintains a safe office environment.

As Head of Finance and Operations, you will:

- Be an active member of the senior management team working across boundaries to collaborate with other Heads and support the CEO to deliver the charity’s annual operational implementation plan

- Produce both statutory accounts and monthly management accounts

- Lead the annual budgeting process, contribute to the annual business planning activities and provide strategic financial advice in verbal and written format to the CEO, Trustee Board and Council

About the role
The NextGen Community Producer will play an integral role at Youth Music shaping and developing our support for young adults, particularly helping them to close the gap between learning and earning in music.

You’ll join us at an exciting time as we look to scale up and enhance our community engagement efforts. Building on the foundations established in phase 1 between 2021-2024, your focus will be on increasing participation, and fostering a more cohesive and active community. Your innovative strategies and passion for supporting young creatives will be key to driving deeper connections among members, and creating a compelling offer for the community.

Day-to-day you’ll be programming national events, workshops and networking opportunities; brokering progression opportunities though Youth Music’s industry partners, and recruiting to paid freelance creative roles. The job will involve managing a variety of relationships with young people, playing a central role in developing and leading the NextGen community strategy, and supporting the development of a new brand and user journey for NextGen community members.

Key responsibilities
Programme Development

• Act as the day-to-day lead and point of contact for the Youth Music NextGen Community, representing their voice internally and externally.
• Devise and implement a clear strategy for the continued growth and development of the NextGen Community, with support from the Engagement team.
• Deliver impactful programmes of activities and support that will progress young people into creative careers, broaden their networks, increase their confidence and create access to new opportunities.
• Develop and grow the NextGen Community brand and visual identity, ensuring a clear offer and user journey for those taking part in Youth Music funded projects, and other potential new members.
• Increase the role the community plays in designing and delivering the NextGen programme, aligning with Youth Music’s wider aims and values around youth voice.
• Increase interaction between NextGen Community members.

Events

• Work with the events team to develop, grow and manage our programme of regular NextGen Community events across the country to bring the community together and showcase their talent.
• Develop and manage our programme of events in London in partnership with Young Guns Network (YGN), taking place in the offices of our music industry partners.
• Grow attendance at all NextGen events, working with our Comms and Marketing team to increase awareness and build the profile of the event series.
• Programme and manage all events within set budgets.

Partnerships

• Build and leverage relationships with partners and networks to enhance the offer for the NextGen Community (such as events, performance opportunities, workshops, studio time, content creation, and exclusive offers etc).
• Manage relationships with key corporate partners (such as Levi’s) to support delivery of the NextGen Community activities.
• Build and maintain a pipeline of potential partners to approach, and support wider fundraising efforts within the team.

Recruitment

• Lead on NextGen recruitment for NextGen Community Events and the Youth Music Awards, with support from the Engagement Coordinator. e.g. Create briefs for NextGen roles and be their main point of contact.
• Support recruitment for any other Youth Music or partner opportunities created for the NextGen Community. (e.g. gigs, festivals, activations, focus groups, etc).
• Develop the NextGen talent pool, finding new ways to promote and manage this.
• Create and source relevant national music-related opportunities for Youth Music’s ‘opportunities board’.

NextGen Fund

• Support the marketing and promotion of the NextGen Fund.
• Contribute and support NextGen Fund decision panels.
• Work with our Comms team to ensure that content created through the NextGen Fund is showcased on Youth Music’s social and digital channels. E.g. Sound of the Next Generation playlist.

Demonstrate Impact

• Work with the Insights Team to listen and act on feedback from the NextGen Community. This will be via monitoring, research and consultation that informs the ongoing development and design of the NextGen offer.
• Prepare and present reports on the plans, activities and impact of NextGen Community.
• Share our learning internally and externally at panels, conferences, and through written pieces.

Systems and processes

• Capture NextGen membership on Salesforce so that we have a clear understanding of who is in our community.
• Work with the Database Administrator to improve our systems, processes and user journeys.
• Work with the Comms and Marketing team to ensure the Youth Music website represents and serves the needs of the NextGen Community.

Other

• Ensure all activities are delivered in line with Youth Music’s values with inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility at their core.
• Be a safeguarding champion, ensuring best practice Safeguarding is embedded throughout our work and all issues and concerns are escalated as appropriate.
• Represent NextGen at events or speaking opportunities and act as an ambassador for Youth Music.
• Ensure budgets are managed effectively, accurate records are kept and invoicing and payments are managed in a timely manner.

Part 1: Role Purpose:

The Global Press & PR Manager will play a vital role in growing awareness and exposure of Street Child, working with journalists, editors and media houses to build a consistent and pro-active media presence. Street Child’s Global MMC team is fully integrated into the whole organisation and our primary aim is to raise awareness of Street Child and act as a force-multiplier for fundraising efforts.

The role will explore new media relationships and re-ignite existing contacts, turbo-charging the value press and media generates for Street Child.

This is a role for a high-class media professional with a passion for our mission, great energy, imaginations and fantastic relationship building skills. This role requires an individual who will be based in our London office for a minimum of three days a week.

Tasks include delivering media coverage across global outlets, supporting the delivery of media training and briefings and the management/development of Street Child’s podcast.

Part 2: Key Responsibilities:

Delivering global media coverage (80%):

• Develop and maintain close working relationships with journalists across a range of broadcast, print and digital media outlets, looking beyond mainstream media to deliver global reach.
• Writing and publishing compelling, engaging press releases

The Project Delivery Manager will play an important role in helping us to achieve that vision, by working to deliver a State of the Nation review of sarcoma services and treatment in the UK. This will help us fully understand what the barriers are to progress, and the actions needed to improve health outcomes for sarcoma patients. 

This fixed-term and part-time role is ideal for an experienced policy consultant or consultancy firm, or a policy researcher, with experience in running policy, research or public affairs projects, including evidence-gathering exercises, working with stakeholders, and producing report findings. 

Project budget:  An additional £13,000 will be available to support the project’s evidence-gathering, e.g. to help set up and run meetings or events. 

About you: 

We are looking for a highly motivated, organised, goal focused, self-starter with the following experience, knowledge, skills and abilities:

• An understanding of the health policy environment, knowledge of health policy including cancer, how it is delivered by the NHS, and ideally rare cancer or sarcoma care.

Project management 

• Lead the delivery of the State of the Nation review project, reporting to the Policy and Public Affairs Manager and working with the Policy and Public Affairs Officer.
• Develop and implement an evidence-gathering plan, with clear and achievable timelines.
• Running the evidence-gathering process, including Call for Evidence, and arranging evidence sessions, meetings, or events (e.g., workshop(s) or roundtable) to facilitate evidence-gathering.

Secretariat

• Work with and support the State of the Nation Advisory Group to meet regularly during the review, and to facilitate their role in providing advice and support during the project.
• Schedule meetings, assist members with travel and/or accommodation arrangements as necessary.
• Circulate agendas and papers no less than five working days before meetings (and make every effort to provide any further information requested).
• Listen and act upon members’ feedback and respond promptly to any queries. 
• Circulate minutes no more than ten working days after meetings.
• Analysis of written and verbal evidence received by the review.
• Produce written briefing to support evidence-gathering, via evidence sessions, workshop or roundtable meetings.
• Following the conclusion of the evidence-gathering, draft an initial outline report for the Advisory Group to consider. 
• Also produce draft and full final reports, drawing on received evidence, detailing draft key findings and recommendations, and taking account of advice from the Nation Advisory Group.

External relationships

• Develop and maintain positive relationships with people personally affected by sarcoma and healthcare professionals working in this field, including those giving evidence to the review, and members of the Advisory Group.
• Represent Sarcoma UK at external Policy and Public Affairs events, or meetings with key stakeholders, e.g., British Sarcoma Group Conference, and meetings of the Sarcoma Advisory Group Chairs, when the role-holder may be required to promote or present about the review.

Thousands of vulnerable children pass through UK railway stations every day. Most of us wouldn’t even spot that they were in danger. 

As Railway Children’s Community Engagement Worker (London), you will energise key stakeholders to come together to collectively keep vulnerable young people safe on the rail network. You will build and strengthen partnerships with – and between – the rail industry, British Transport Police (BTP) and others working locally with vulnerable young people in order to drive forward innovative approaches to contextual safeguarding.

As part of a dynamic team delivering the Safeguarding on Transport (ST) project, you will be responsible for developing our community engagement work in the London Area as well as supporting our wider UK programme.  The role will require you to engage the public and work closely with British Transport Police, station staff and employees as well as local services in the area. You will support our innovative Safeguarding Action Groups that catalyse communities working in and around London’s stations to combine efforts and resources to keep people safe.
