Age UK Mid Mersey are offering a great opportunity to join our professional, innovative and dedicated team to help launch a new lottery funded Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (MCST) programme in Mid Mersey’s four boroughs: Halton, Knowsley, St Helens and Warrington.

Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (MCST) is a weekly group programme for people living with mild to moderate dementia or cognitive impairment. 

Group members take part in meaningful and stimulating activities, proven to help maintain memory and mental functioning. The groups provide a fun, supportive environment where people can build new friendships. 

Activities include: 

• discussions 
• word games 
• quizzes 
• physical activities 
• creative and musical activities. 

Cognitive Stimulation is the only non-drug treatment recommended to improve cognition, independence and well-being by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). 

Alongside the MCST group sessions the programme will also provide advice, information and facilitated peer support for the carers of groups members. 

The MCST Team Leader will lead a small team of MCST group facilitators, Carer Support workers and volunteers.

The Team Leader will plan programmes, provide support and supervision to staff, and ensure compliance with relevant guidelines and standards. They will be responsible for undertaking initial assessment visits with clients in their own homes to ensure the MCST programme is appropriate for them.

Travel across Mid-Mersey is expected so the post holder must have access to their own vehicle and a full clean driving licence. 

Full training in MCST will be provided alongside management training and mentoring.

Bringing the Mast Cell Activation Syndrome community together

Our client is a small UK rare disease charity. Our client established at the end of 2015 to respond to Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). MCAS is a crippling, unpredictable and frightening condition affecting the immune system. Sufferers from MCAS have “wrongly programmed” immune systems that react to a wide range of triggers including food, drink, stress, temperature and many others. The effects range from unpleasant allergic reactions, through to an overall debilitation resulting in people being unable to leave their houses. It was first recognised internationally in 1990, with a set of diagnostic criteria agreed in 2011, but is little known or understood in the UK, where incidence seems to be increasing. Here patients can wait 3-5 years for a diagnosis, often receive very little knowledge or help from within the medical establishment and can find themselves in a frightening limbo.

Their mission is to provide support for MCAS patients & their families; to bring the MCAS community together and create a cohesive voice; to lobby for awareness, universally available diagnosis and the best possible care for MCAS patients; and to inspire increased research into mast cell activation and related conditions, to improve understanding and treatment.

Embedding PPIE in our work

• Lead on the delivery of the PPIE strategy for the BHF Data Science Centre, with oversight from the Operations Director, incorporating regular (e.g. annual) reviews and updates of the strategy.
• Lead and facilitate meetings with public contributors to integrate meaningful PPIE throughout all aspects of our work.
• Undertake and manage specific involvement and engagement activities, including but not limited to focus groups, engagement events, developing and undertaking surveys, supporting the writing of plain English summaries of projects and their outputs. In collaboration with senior colleagues, support involvement of patients and the public in the governance of our work.
• Review and provide advice on PPIE elements of research applications ensuring adequate PPIE is incorporated and provide advice where needed to researchers. 
• Develop methods to expand reach and ensure diversity of perspectives and work with the HDR UK PPIE team to grow involvement of currently underrepresented and underserved groups in health data science.

We are recruiting a part-time (16 hours per week) Data Management Officer to join our supportive team who are committed to making life better for Manchester’s unpaid carers. This post is an ideal opportunity for someone passionate about data, who enjoys working as part of a team and wants to use their skills within a small charity.

We are looking for someone experienced in data management, who can organise, maintain and develop our information systems, and produce reports for different audiences.  You might also have some experience supporting reporting and evaluation for a community or charitable organisation, but this is not essential. Fighting With Pride is a ‘lived experience’ LGBTQ+ military charity, created in January 2020.

FWP supports LGBTQ+ veterans, serving personnel and their families.  This support focuses on those who were affected by the ‘gay ban’.

The Chief Executive is responsible for providing leadership, developing, and implementing FWP strategic and operation plans, leading on partnership and development across Government, military charities and key stakeholders and being an advocate for the charity and its beneficiaries. They will be responsible for ensuring financial control and supporting and advising on good governance across all aspects of the Charity. This post directly reports to the Chair and Board of Trustees. 

The role is full-time, 37.5 hours per week and is on a permanent employment contract.  The salary is up to £60,000 per annum.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership

Be the principal ambassador of the charity.

To work in close partnership with the Chair and Board of Trustees to design, shape and implement the new strategy.

Lead, support, and motivate all staff, creating a positive culture throughout the organisation, delivering the charity’s aims, objectives, and ambitions.

Seek out, develop, and maintain effective working relationships with the Government and all relevant stakeholders to promote the work of the charity and facilitate the implementation of its strategic objectives.

Lead development of the vision, mission, core values and objectives in the Strategic Plan, providing advice, guidance and evidence-based proposals to the Chair and Board of Trustees.

To run FWP efficiently and effectively by ensuring FWP has an appropriate management structure and systems, including financial reporting, to fulfil its strategic objectives and report to the Board of Trustees.

To ensure management policies and decisions support the agreed vision, mission, values, philosophy, and strategic priorities of FWP.

To ensure business, operational, and annual plans to underpin the strategic plan are developed, agreed, and implemented.

Finance

▪ Maintaining financial systems through accurate record keeping.

▪ Providing financial support operationally to the wider staff team nationally.

▪ Supporting the Finance Manager to implement financial systems and processes.

Building Dignity, Agency and Power to End Poverty

· Actively build relationships with colleagues, partners and individuals to strengthen networks across our projects and activities.

· Encourage opportunities for individuals experiencing in poverty to speak truth to power and take part in community activism with the organisation and partners.

· Support the aims of the movement, organisations and partners through contributing to campaigning and community organising (e.g. Challenge Poverty Week).

Financial Administration

● Assist with efficient and accurate bookkeeping and records management of financial accounts including regular reconciliation activity according to standard processes.

● Raise, receive, process, code and upload invoices to/from suppliers and funders using finance management software (Quickbooks and Salesforce).

● Reconcile monthly bank statements, credit card and pre-paid cards

● Record grants, donations and other income from supporters, members, churches etc and maintain up to date donor records on the financial management system (Quickbooks and Salesforce).

● Liaise with and responding to inquiries from colleagues, suppliers and programme partners.

● Assist with the preparation of monthly fundraising progress reports, quarterly management accounts, Gift Aid claims and annual financial examination.

Programme Support

● Administer, track staff expenses related to programme activities.

● Support in regular reconciling and reporting of donor income and programme expenditure, answering queries and providing up to date information to the wider staff team.

● Assist the Finance Manager in maintaining financial reports to enable tracking and monitoring of spend and in reporting to grant funders

Compliance

● Ensure your work is carried out to the required quality standards and adhering to internal financial management procedures.

● Provide documentation to facilitate programme operations, including grant documents and funder reports.

● Support the Finance Manager in ensuring the charity is compliant with contractual and legal obligations.

Accountability and relationships

The Finance Assistant will be accountable to Church Action on Poverty’s Finance Manager; and will work closely with the core office team and other members in the team. They will also have a working relationship with staff from suppliers, partners and volunteers. They will be expected to attend regular staff meetings and supervision sessions.

Other details

Duration:  Permanent contract with six month probationary period.

Hours: 21 hours per week including very occasional 'unsocial' hours, weekend working and overnight travelling for which Time Off in Lieu is provided.

Salary: £28,624 pa pro rata (Scale C point 14 based on NJC pay scale) paid monthly on the 14th day of each month.

Benefits: Church Action on Poverty operates the Nest auto-enrolment pension scheme, and contributes a 10%                                      employer contribution provided the staff member commits to making a 5% employee contribution.

The Role

The Referrals Officer role is critical to the charity. It ensures that our referral process is managed effectively for our clients and branches.

This is both an internal and external role. The person in this role is the first point of contact for all referral queries. You will assign referrals to branches, liaise with clients and volunteers, and maintain our CRM system.

We are seeking a strong people person with at least two years of experience operating and maintaining a CRM system regularly (ideally Salesforce). Experience working to develop a CRM system and client journey would be advantageous.

As a small charity, you will thrive in a busy environment, have excellent prioritisation skills and have a positive ‘can do’ attitude. We are a supportive team, and you will work closely with our Operations Manager and wider volunteer delivery colleagues to help REMAP support our clients and branches across the UK.

To be considered for this role, you will have demonstrable experience in a similar position and be comfortable working with a diverse range of volunteers/people. As a self-starter, you can work at pace and quickly assess and deliver to changing priorities in a busy remote team. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, be able to coordinate multiple tasks/activities and have the flexibility to respond to changing demands. Ideally, you will have experience dealing with enquiries from health professionals and vulnerable clients.

You will be proactive, enthusiastic, and excited about joining an organisation with ambitious plans to future-proof its services and reach more disabled people. Experience working in a remote environment is highly desirable.

Place of work: Fully remote, with occasional 2/3 nights away for year-round events.

Working Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week

Salary: £26,000 – £29,000 dependent on experience

Experience working within a support group or helpline type service would be advantageous, as would experience developing and delivering support services and/or project management experience.

FareShare GM redistributed an amazing 1,929 tonnes of surplus food to 306 community groups, supplying 4.6 million meals to those in need in 2023/24.  Working with FareShare UK, we help unlock good food from a wide variety of national and local food suppliers, food that otherwise would have gone in the bin.  We support diverse groups including those catering to the elderly, young families, the BAME community, disabled individuals and those facing homelessness or other forms of poverty.

It’s a busy operation with a lot of moving parts: you’ll take ownership for the smooth running of the Allocations office, supervising the distribution of surplus food to our Community Food Members.   By working closely with the Warehouse team and drivers, you’ll help ensure the timely, accurate and food safe compliant deliveries and collections, optimising our income whilst minimising food waste.

This senior leadership role helps people with sight loss to live the life they choose through the direction, delivery and development of the guide dog service.
