Purpose of the job/About the role

To support this transformation, we are seeking a Deputy Director of Finance and Governance to play a pivotal role in strengthening our finance and governance capabilities.
Within this key post, you will lead a team of finance and governance professionals, supporting the Director of Finance and Corporate Services. You will ensure reliable and accurate financial reporting for the charity, oversee finance projects, and establish a proportionate, robust risk and governance framework.
As a strategic leader, you will contribute to the overarching strategy for Finance and Corporate Services, collaborating with the director to develop and implement the Finance and Governance strategy, ensuring this aligns with the Dementia UK’s organisational goals and translate into clear, measurable targets. Collaboration with the fundraising and program teams will also be essential to ensure accurate financial management of grants and donations.
To succeed, you will be a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) with extensive senior-level financial management experience, ideally within the nonprofit or charity sector. A strong working knowledge of Charity Commission and SORP reporting requirements is essential, along with experience in creating and implementing strategic finance initiatives. You should also have a background in managing audits and working within governance and risk management frameworks.

The Help for Heroes Community Development team are looking to recruit a team of Community Builders to assist in their reshaped participation and connection strategy. Using Asset Based Community Development, we seek to support the charity’s objective to enhance reach and positive impact for members of the Armed Forces Community facing challenges within their local communities.

About You
You will have experience leading and facilitating the mobilisation of local communities, asset mapping, bringing together people for engagement that matters to them. You will have knowledge and experience of Asset Based Community Development work, outreach methods and you will have good organisational skills, energy and the ability to animate local communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver outreach to drive local connection, engagement and participation opportunities for the AFC

- A Community Development qualification and/or at least 3 years' experience working within a community development or similar role, with responsibility for bringing about social change and improving quality of life

About the Team
You will work as part of the Community Development team; this newly formed team will approach working in defined localities using an asset based community development approach. Democracy Classroom is a partnership between over 100 civil society organisations that supports young people to engage in elections and democracy. The network supports collaboration through newsletters, training, meet up’s and an annual conference, as well as providing resources and training for teachers and youth practitioners. Democracy Classroom pools the collective support of the sector through the Democracy Classroom platform, where teachers and youth workers can access the collective support of the membership.
Following the recent General Election, the network has experienced growth and is now preparing to support upcoming elections, votes at 16 and new developments such as changes to democratic education and the curriculum review. The network is non-partisan and works across all 4 nations in the UK.
The aims of the network include:
Increasing the number of young people engaging with democracy and elections.
Increasing the number of teachers and youth workers delivering democratic education, and strengthening their capacity to deliver impactful democratic engagement and voter registration activities in schools, colleges and youth settings across the UK.
Improving coordination between organisations engaging young people across the youth, education and democracy sectors, through growing the Democracy Classroom network.
ABOUT THE ROLE
To achieve the above, the post holder will:
- Support, build and manage relationships with over 100 civil society partner organisations.
- Manage the day-to-day running of the network, including the network's communications and databases.
- Coordinate the sharing of learning materials, working with teachers and youth workers to organise, map and curate content that supports democratic and election education.
- Oversee the Democracy Classroom website / platform.
- Train and support teachers and youth workers to deliver democratic education materials.
- Oversee our #ElectionCountdown programme during UK local, devolved and national elections and the associated comms campaigns.
- Line manage the Democracy Classroom programme coordinator and manage relationships with freelance teachers, youth workers and designers.
- Oversee evaluation and monitoring, producing reports where required.
The job is a fixed term 12-month contract (including a 6-month probation period), with possible extension depending on the electoral calendar.
The Politics Project is based in London, and the post holder will be expected to work from the office at least two days a week. The hours of work are 37.5 hrs per week. Occasional travel to elsewhere in the UK and working unsocial hours in evenings and at weekends may be required. This is a fast-paced role in a small but growing team.

We are looking for a new Funding Officer to cover areas predominantly within Kent. The role will join a passionate, vibrant and friendly team and be part of ensuring our funding supports a wide variety of communities and places locally.
As part of our London, South East and East (LSE&E) Funding team, you’ll be part of a team, led by a Funding Manager, and comprised of five other Funding Officers. LSE&E is one of the largest teams in the Fund (circa 50 people) and distributes over £100m annually. The team is committed to learning and impact and the role offers a chance to gain insight into and learn from the fantastic work communities are doing on the ground and how this can be used to help others.
· You will assess applications for funding and manage grants from our Reaching Communities and Partnerships programme.
· You will use your local knowledge and experience, and the experience of our grant holders and local stakeholders, to ensure we are making the best decisions on the grants we make. By working closely with people and communities from a defined geographical area, you will understand what matters to them and where our funding can make the biggest difference.
· You will gain an understanding of our vision, our commitment to equity and inclusion and our funding programmes.
· You will be responsible for your own caseload; liaise with grant recipients, visit projects, identify and manage risks, supporting organisations to deliver their projects and measure their impact.
· You will need to understand and respond to the different needs of our applicants and grant holders by providing advice and feedback and be willing to have challenging but constructive conversations.
· You’ll also need to work within the Fund’s policies and procedures and the necessary legislation, and in a way that is in line with our vision and principles.

The Development Manager (Individual Giving) will focus on increasing donations from individual supporters. Working closely with the Head of Development and CEO, you'll be responsible for growing donation schemes for individual supporters, stewarding major donors, delivering public fundraising appeals and promoting opportunities for supporters to make gifts in wills.
