Key Skills and Experience

About the role
Right now, we’re looking for a technical expert with experience of developing and maintaining ELT pipelines to move data between enterprise applications (a mix of both in-house and external and on-prem and in the cloud). Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for developing ETL processes using Fabric and Synapse linking from a variety of data sources to a wide variety of targets on-prem, cloud platforms and in Azure. We’ll also rely on you to ensure business requirements for new data feeds or changes are understood and translated into efficient and effective technical solutions. Exploring new ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of data management across Shelter will be important too, as will transforming and centralising raw data from multiple platforms into user friendly reporting data. PSK leads and supports organisation-wide programme learning and knowledge management, collating and disseminating programme knowledge and facilitating knowledge exchange. The team also leads on developing normative programme documents and standards and advise and support the delivery of a programme capacity enhancement strategy. PSK collaborates with many functions across the organisation including policy, advocacy, campaigns, fundraising, communications, as well as with WaterAid partners and collaborators.
About the Role:
The Sanitation Senior Advisor is a senior position in the WASH Technical Effectiveness team, reporting to the Sanitation Lead. Together with the Sanitation Lead, the Senior Advisor co-leads the delivery of core team responsibilities regarding the thematic areas of sanitation and other closely associated topics. Applying a people-centred, systems strengthening approach to WASH, she/he provides high quality specialist technical analysis, advisory, and support services to the design, inception, implementation, troubleshooting, monitoring, and/or assessments of WaterAid’s programming worldwide, at both strategic and operational levels.
In collaboration with country, regional and global colleagues, she/he co-leads the facilitation of effective learning and management of technical and programme knowledge across the organisation, and co-leads the development of relevant standards and guidance. She/he also provides strategic and technical input to fundraising, communications, and external engagements.
The Senior advisor has a high degree of independent and professional responsibility within own specialist areas, and discusses with her/his line manager to agree on how objectives are delivered. She/he is seen as a thematic authority and is able to handle highly challenging technical assignments. With a good understanding of organisational dynamics and ways of working, she/he is expected to effectively collaborate widely across WaterAid, facilitating joined-up and comprehensive efforts to advance WaterAid’s programming globally.
About You:
- Strong technical experience in developing, and implementing sanitation approaches, services delivery and management models, resilience and sustainability of services, environmental sanitation, sanitary engineering, wastewater and drainage, and/or other inter-related topics across different settings, demonstrated through a progressive career record.
- A relevant post-Graduate degree or equivalent work experience.
- Strong experience in offering technical assistance, consulting, and/or advisory services to empower and to develop capacities of sanitation service providers, operators, local and national governments as well as INGO/CSO partners.
- Ability to handle highly specialized, unusual, and challenging technical assignments, resolve complex issues in practical and imaginative ways.
- Strong writing and communication ability in English. Experienced in producing practical knowledge products targeting needs of diverse audiences and effective peer-learning and sharing of good practices and lessons.
- Organised and efficient. Demonstrated ability to drive tasks forward to completion in a timely manner while maintaining high quality.
- A team player, able to work responsibly, under pressure, and collaboratively across diverse groups and culture.

Job Purpose:

Key Responsibilities
- Ask for and check references for new volunteers
- Coordinate and attend volunteer recruitment events, such as Universities; organise volunteers and staff to support
- Follow up with prospective volunteers to encourage them to apply
- Work with the Communications team to promote volunteering opportunities online
- Coordinate and run regular information sessions for prospective volunteers to explain the volunteering opportunities
- Initiate contact with volunteers and trainees to process DBS/PVG/police vetting checks as required
- Check the status of volunteers who are part of the relevant Update Service
- Proactively monitor and follow up on the progress of checks to keep on top of weekly targets
- Coordinate video calls to verify ID documents, checking documents with utmost attention to detail
- Handle queries on checks, and troubleshoot cases such as missing documentation or anything outside the accepted DBS/PVG/police vetting procedure
- Liaise with our selected external provider for any queries
- Escalate disclosures to a panel for review, if required
- Accurately update outcome information for each volunteer
- Ensure the confidentiality of volunteer information is maintained and securely discard volunteer documentation once checks are complete

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) is a charity for the conservation of birds and nature, bringing people together who love birds and other wildlife, and who want to take action to restore the health and diversity of the natural world. This role will support the delivery of Alzheimer’s Society’s online Dementia Support Forum service and wider Online Communities initiatives. The role involves working with Online Community Assistants and Coordinators to ensure effective day-to-day operation of the service which could include offering support directly to a service user, handling queries that come through via our mailbox, or working on projects to help develop the support that we offer.
This is a remote role with occasional travel to one of our Alzheimer’s Society offices. This role is full-time, 35 hours per week, and the successful candidate will need to be able to work every Saturday and Sunday as well as three days during the week. You will:
- Support the delivery of the Dementia Support Forum service (including on weekends), working closely with colleagues to review community activity, handle live issues, and provide clear handover communication to the rest of the team
- Support our volunteer moderators and hosts, who are geographically dispersed and work from home, acknowledging their contributions, offering support and handling their queries in an empathetic manner
- Support Online Community Coordinators in responding to requests and enquiries about the service, building effective working relationships with colleagues from other departments and directorates
