About the role
It is an exciting time to join the Union following a period of transformation and current strategic planning. Becoming an incorporated charity has included a thorough review of the Union’s staffing, governance, and constitutional makeup, ensuring the charity works in the best interests of its members with an efficient and representative governmental design.
The Union have secured an increased funding agreement with the University, allowing them to increase capacity and grow staffing expertise whilst improving already positive staff satisfaction levels. This provides a strong foothold as they review their current strategy to ensure their work remains impactful, relevant, and ambitious.
You will support your fellow trustees with financial scrutiny and oversight, ensuring value for money, cost-effective delivery, and alignment with the best interests of the Union’s members.
This is an opportunity to collaborate with skilled external trustees, senior JMSU staff, and passionate student officers in a warm and welcoming environment.
Who we are looking for
JMSU seek a finance professional with emotional intelligence and an approachable style to form positive relationships with a new generation of leaders.
Applications from first time trustees are welcome – sufficient training and development opportunities will be provided. They are especially keen to hear from candidates from Black, Asian, and other ethnic communities and backgrounds who are currently underrepresented in positions of leadership.
The time commitment is 7-8 engagements a year. This consists of 4 board meetings a year, sub-committee attendance and one away day.
Meetings are hybrid, but in-person attendance is preferable. Board dates are given well in advance, and reasonable travel costs can be reimbursed.

At the Eco Centre our mission is to empower people to live and work sustainably. We inform, inspire and enable people to take action on climate change and the environment.
What we do
Our focus is on practical help so people can reduce carbon, live sustainably and combat climate change.
We’ve developed an innovative approach to helping people make that transition to sustainable living that has the potential of being scaled up and used nationwide – putting us on the road to zero carbon. We’re working closely with communities to pilot and develop the scheme.
In the next 12 months we planning an events programme to engage inspire the public and businesses, and for collaboration and co-creation for climate action innovation.

How you can help
As Finance Board Member you’ll take on the role of Treasurer. As a key member of a newly enlarged team, you will have a leading role in ensuring we are able to step up our action on climate change and sustainability and the drive to Zero Carbon.

Role summary
You will be an invaluable part of the team supporting the Shelter Lancashire hub to deliver frontline services in local community settings in Blackpool. Time commitment.
The Board meets quarterly for 2-3 hours, usually in central London, with an annual strategy away day. The overall time commitment, including engagement with the CEO, Trustees, and other key stakeholders, preparation for meetings, regular conversations with the chairs of the committees, ad hoc discussions and potentially attending events is expected to be the equivalent of 2-3 days per month.

About this role
You will be vital to the work of our ecommerce hub helping to sort, quality check and monitor donated products from our corporate partners.
Your role may include:
· sorting donated pallets of stock ready for sale
· quality checking products to sort the good from the bad
· scanning products to trade in, such as books and CDs
· helping to pack orders to go our shops
· helping keep our warehouse tidy and our stock system accurate
When and where
You will be in our Scope Ecommerce Hub. The hub is based at 19 – 20 Guide Street, Salford M50 1BX. We can be flexible on the times you would like to volunteer. Our hub opening times (Monday-Friday 8am-4pm). We’d love your help for as little as 1 hour a week, but if you can give more time that would help us even more.
Who we’re looking for
We welcome anyone who is passionate about disability equality and willing to support our work! You must be over 18 years old. You will need to feel comfortable working in a large busy warehouse environment and be able to lift and carry items, although we have a forklift truck to assist with heavier items.
Some volunteers want to learn more about charities or about retail. Others want to make a difference to the lives of disabled people. Other volunteers are interested in our training and development opportunities. Some people join us to meet new people and make friends. Sometimes people want to help a charity shop they like shopping in, while also getting a discount online!

We are seeking Social Media Volunteers to assist our Social Media Marketing Team in creating and distributing engaging content on Hidayah’s social media platforms. Social media is integral to connecting with the Hidayah community, growing our organisational reach and promoting events such as our Queer Book Club, in-house research and educational resources for Ramadan.
We also use our social media platforms to post adverts for volunteers, promote Hidayah’s membership, respond to world news via solidarity statements and signpost LGBTQI+ Muslims to a range of national and international support.
You do not need to be LGBTQI+ or Muslim to be able to carry out this role. However, it is important to have a broad knowledge and understanding of these areas to be able to genuinely engage with the specific audience that follows Hidayah’s social media platforms.
What are the key responsibilities of this role?
Our Social Media Volunteers have a range of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Creating and editing content to distribute across Hidayah’s social media platforms e.g. TikTok and Instagram
- Communicating with other volunteers and the Social Media Marketing Trustee on feedback, suggestions and issues
- Carrying out independent research to obtain quality content and sharing relevant information on Hidayah’s platforms
- Actively engage with people following us on social media
- Promoting events and projects as and when appropriate
- Administration; monitoring inboxes, responding to messages and comments, signposting to the relevant emails, archiving out of date posts
What do we expect from a Social Media Volunteer?

How much commitment is required?
