Campaigning Volunteer Roles
Following on from the fantastic work that the Keeping it Wild Youth Forum achieved from 2018-2021 (including influencing our comms, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion work and creating the new Wild Youth Hub), we have placed youth voices right at the heart of the Trust’s governance structure through our Youth Board, which was founded in 2022.
The Youth Board consists of 12 motivated young people (aged 16-25) who are passionate about London’s wildlife and ensuring young people’s voices are heard. Over the year we meet every month in person at one of our London Wildlife Trust sites to discuss and plan a range of agendas including: projects, events, campaigns, curating events, communication and youth strategy, blogs, podcasts and films. Members are also part of our mentoring scheme where Youth Board members are paired up with Trustees and Senior Management team, meeting to discuss personal goals every six weeks.
We’re currently recruiting for up to nine positions to fill the gaps of those who are leaving the Board.
We'll offer you:
- We will cover your travel expenses to meetings/events you attend and we will provide lunch/snacks/refreshments;
- We are also able to offer financial reimbursement (at London Living Wage) for some opportunities undertaken with the Trust outside of the minimum time commitment areas
- Mentoring from our trustees and senior management team (every six weeks);

What you will bring to the Trust
The Youth Board will:
- Support the implementation of the Trust’s Strategic Plan, particularly on how the Trust can better engage young people from a range of backgrounds;
- Share their ideas, experiences and opinions by contributing towards evaluation, strategy documents, blog posts, interviews, social media or film content;
- Create materials and curate events (including our annual Green Careers Showcase) to inspire more young people to get involved with the Trust;
- Represent the Trust at events (in person and online);
- Co-ordinate and lead Youth Board meetings with support from the Youth Programmes team;
- Represent the Youth Board at Board Meetings with Trustees and Senior Management Team and working group meetings with staff (e.g. outdoor learning, health and safety, conservation, equality, diversity and inclusion, comms and marketing).
Our ideal Youth Board member:
- You are aged 16-25;

- Excited about furthering youth involvement at the Trust;
- Interested in being an advocate for other young people and the role that young people can play in determining the future of wildlife and wild spaces in London;
- Interested in learning more about the environment, urban nature conservation and how to get more people from all backgrounds standing up for nature on their doorsteps; you do not need to have any experience with nature or the environment to apply
Minimum time commitment:
- 1 year with the option to stay on for 2 years
- 12 core in-person meetings a year: one meeting in the first week of each month alternating between weekday meetings (6:30pm – 8:30pm) and weekend meetings (12:00 – 3:00pm)
- Optional socials around the core meetings
- Additional training and working group meetings as per your own interest, usually 1 – 2 times a month for around an hour
- Attend at least 1 Trustee Board meeting per year
- Optional opportunities to get involved in other events and projects

Being a Walk Leader involves a regular commitment as you will be taking responsibility for one of the main objectives of our group: leading a local walking group. With this in mind, these are the activities involved in being a Walk Leader:
- Lead a local walking group, being a point of contact for the walking group participants.
- Be able and willing to be facilitating a walking group at least once monthly
- We understand that you may be working full-time and have a family life, so please consider carefully if this level of commitment is right for you,
- You may only be able to commit to once a month; this is okay, as long as it can be the same day/time each month and this can be evenings or weekends, for example,
- We want our Group Leaders to take ownership of this as long as it works for you and the participants who attend,
- It is important that if for any reason you cannot make it to lead a walking group you are able to ensure there is someone able to step in for you.
- Being prepared to provide advice and guidance regarding any concerns, within the limitations outlined below (see section below on what volunteers should not do)
- Being willing to interact with and, if needed, offer support to other Group Leaders

MenWalkTalk has been set up to offer opportunities for men with mental health issues to come together and feel no pressure or stigma about discussing their issues with other men.
Supporting men with mental health issues is at its core, and it may help you in your volunteering if you too have lived experience of a mental health problem, either personally or from a close relative or friend. It will also help if you have an open, non-judgemental attitude, and that you are able to adopt a positive, patient and supportive approach towards supporting people with mental health problems.

Similarly, unless they are qualified to do so MenWalkTalk Campaigners and Group Leaders won’t provide therapeutic or coaching advice. Again, you will be provided with information on directing anyone to the appropriate support.

Communications & Marketing Board Member
At the Eco Centre our mission is to empower people to live and work sustainably. We inform, inspire and enable people to take action on climate change and the environment.
What we do
Our focus is on practical help so people can reduce carbon, live sustainably and combat climate change.
We’ve developed an innovative approach to helping people make that transition to sustainable living that has the potential of being scaled up and used nationwide – putting us on the road to zero carbon. We’re working closely with communities to pilot and develop the scheme.
In the next 12 months we planning an events programme to engage inspire the public and businesses, and for collaboration and co-creation for climate action innovation.
The next step will be a regional sustainability hub – a visitor attraction with hands-on activities. A go-to destination, training facility, and events/exhibition space – and a resource base for outreach and schools’ programmes.
How you can help
As Communications & Marketing Board Member, you’ll take a leading role in developing and implement communications and marketing strategies. You will help raise the profile of the Eco Centre so that it can increase its support and develop the opportunities and partnerships needed to achieve its sustainability goals. A key aim will be building support for a sustainability hub for the South West.
You will be a member of a newly enlarged team, ensuring we’re able to step up our action on climate change/sustainability and the drive to Zero Carbon.

Working Location: Generally remote working but the ability to help occasionally at events in the South West is preferable.

Our network of committed local vegans across the country is growing! The Vegan Society organises various outreach activities to influence change in every level of society. There are a range of activities going on all the time, from general educational stalls at events to meeting with local policy influencers.
What does the Organiser role involve?
Every month, you will be sent a collection of tasks to choose from. We create these from our programme of campaigns. You would be the point of contact for Advocates in your area, sharing these tasks and coordinating activities, such as stalls and lobbying councillors. We will provide you with a campaign toolkit and be in regular contact with you to ensure you have everything you need. You will also be invited to our private Facebook group and WhatsApp chat.
We would expect you to provide any updates from your group and give feedback on each task. It's vital that we measure the impact that we are having, in terms of positive conversations and leaflets handed out. You can also give us ideas you have for future outreach tasks or campaigning. Many Organisers find a huge sense of satisfaction, improvement in self-esteem and enjoy the social side of volunteering in this role.
You will also be responsible for welcoming new Advocates in your area. We will let you know when somebody new applies, and you will help them to get involved with any activities. As the main contact for Advocates, this role does require some awareness of safeguarding and data protection procedures and policy. You'll also be the health and safety contact for your group. There will be full training on your role in this, as well as a handbook and ongoing guidance and support.
As an Organiser, you will ensure any resources or actions undertaken are in line with our branding and messaging guidelines and make sure that Advocates understand this too.
What training and support is available?
There will be a full induction to the role, with a gradual introduction of new tasks and responsibilities. To start with, we will provide an initial training session to cover the basics of community organising, communication skills and event planning. This will be done remotely from wherever you are. Along with this, we will provide a full pack of resources that covers a range of work that we do.
From there, there will be regular conversations and reviews, where we can discuss other training requirements. Staff are always available to Organisers for any questions, via phone or email.

It would be beneficial for this role to have access to a vehicle, as some actions will involve taking resources to events or visiting MPs’ offices. However, this is not mandatory as the campaign toolkit can be carried in a backpack.
How much time do I need to invest?
You should be able to commit around two days a month to carry out actions, and this is usually spread out across the month. We also expect timely responses to emails. When a new Advocate applies to work with you, we would like them to be contacted within seven days.

The Role
In this volunteer role, you'll be responsible for assisting with fundraising activities and managing grants to ensure the financial stability of the organisation. Bring your experience to an impactful charity working to educate on electrical safety and raise issues such as the dangers of buying electrical products from online market places, the increasing dangers of e-bike and e-scooter fires, product recall and registration, electrical DIY and the importance of using registered electricians.

Who we are.
We raise awareness with the public, are a key influencing voice, and work with politicians to ensure that the Government is doing all it can to keep people safe from electrical accidents. We seek a new Trustee with demonstrated commercial acumen, particularly with experience in the renewables sector, to join our Board.
Electrical Safety First (ESF) is a campaigning charity that aims to reduce deaths and injuries caused by electricity in UK homes. We do this by working closely with the Government, the electrical industry, manufacturers, retailers, and consumer safety organisations to improve safety regulation and standards. We also run media and digital campaigns to share advice and guidance with consumers that will help them stay safe in their homes.
We campaign on issues that include electrical safety within housing standards, regulating the sale of electrical goods on online marketplaces, and protecting people vulnerable to increased risk of electric shock and electrical fires. We also consider the future safe use of electricity in the home as we transition to the electrification of our heating and transport, and homes and appliances will become smarter. We run an annual consumer survey that looks at general attitudes towards electrical safety, and we carry out research on specific areas of interest, including product safety, housing, electric vehicles and how we will use electricity in the future.
Our consumer campaigns, delivered through the media and online via our social media channels, aim to increase awareness of the dangers of electricity and encourage people to make the simple changes that will help them to stay safe in their homes. We also publish reports on key electrical safety issues to provide evidence and recommendations for change and use our technical expertise to influence standards, regulations and legislation.
It’s a hugely exciting time to be involved with ESF, given the rise in electricity use as we transition to more electrification of our heating and transport. As the Government strives to achieve our net zero targets, our work has never been more important in protecting people and helping to make our increasingly electric world a safer place.
We have a committed board of trustees with a wide range of skills, but with completed terms creating some vacancies, there is an opportunity for a new Trustee to bring fresh energy and inspiration.
Person Specification.
We are seeking a dynamic commercial individual to join our Board of Trustees.
The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of commercial expertise, (gained either in a company or from exposure to corporates as customers), including financial sustainability, and business development strategies.
And as we transition to an increasingly electric world we would be particularly interested in someone with experience of renewables and/or the electrical energy transition to net carbon zero.
Previous experience as a trustee or non-executive director will be preferred.
As a Trustee, you will play a crucial role in guiding the strategic direction of Electrical Safety First, ensuring the charity’s sustainability and effectiveness in achieving its mission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Contribute to the development and implementation of the charity’s strategic plans, ensuring alignment with its mission and values.
- Commercial Expertise: Provide insights and advice on strategic commercial and financial issues
- Governance: Ensure the charity complies with its governing documents, charity law, company law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Act as an ambassador for Electrical Safety First, building relationships with key stakeholders, partners, and donors.

Pride is a celebration of the full rainbow spectrum of the diverse LGBTQ+ community, a chance to connect with community, and to stand up for the rights of all LGBTQ+ people. There will be loads of eyes on you so engage with the spectators and shout loud ‘n’ proud about the work that akt does.

- meeting at the akt office, helping carry flags and banners to the parade
- wearing an akt t-shirt (this will be provided)
- being approachable and proactive if asked about the work that we do when engaging with walkers and spectators in the parade

Our small charity delivers awareness campaigns and a range of support services to patients, relatives, partners and carers who have been affected by a debilitating chronic condition; Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). We are urgently looking for 2 experienced email marketing volunteers to join our communications team.
You will be a big link to our charity's clients who are vulnerable and isolated, to them learning more about events, our latest articles, fundraising events as well as ensuring they are aware of the services that we offer that be of help to them. You will also be helping us to raise awareness of this devastating chronic condition.
Even though we are a small organisation we have big ideas and having regular contact through emails and newsletters will show consistency and know they can rely on us to be there for them.
We would like the volunteer to help with:
- Email content: Develop our communication & marketing content calendar, write compelling regular email content, including calls for donations & support, that is relevant and has clear a call-to-action and high click through rates;
- Email content (membership): Create a regular email newsletter for our membership scheme
- Create a number of automated email series - for donors, members, fundraisers and more
- Newsletter strategy: Help us plan and articulate how we can use emails and newsletters to strengthen our organisation, motivate our supporters and communicate with our sponsors;
- Design and implement campaigns and promotional activity

Role summary
You will be an invaluable part of the team supporting the Shelter Lancashire hub to deliver frontline services at the Shelter Lancashire Hub in Blackburn Central Library and in local community settings. As a client support volunteer your activity could involve phone, online, email and face to face contact (as appropriate) to clients needing help and guidance around a range of housing, benefit and debt issues. This role supports our specialist advice and community work and enables us to offer and deliver a broader range of help to the local community. There is also the opportunity to support involvement with people with lived experience and engage in our local and national campaigning activities.

Role Summary
We are looking for someone to take ownership and leadership over all marketing activities for Roots Academy. You will lead the marketing team in developing and executing strategies and campaigns to achieve our mission of enabling university students to live God-centred lives. This role holder will also be an essential member of the Roots LT (Leadership Team), and so they are expected to contribute toward the overall strategy and direction of Roots as well as their area.
Key tasks
- Manage existing marketing team members and channels including podcast, email, social media, videography and outreach
- Develop and execute comprehensive digital marketing strategies to achieve our mission of enabling university students to live God-centred lives
- Oversee the marketing calendar to ensure all campaigns are delivered on time and within budget
- Oversee the creation and implementation of compelling content across all digital platforms
- Evaluate end-to-end student experience across multiple channels and touchpoints, using data-driven insights to optimise marketing efforts and make informed decisions
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to plan, brief, and execute campaigns
- Manage and optimise marketing budgets, ensuring cost-effective strategies and achieving maximum ROI, as well as tracking and report on budget spend and performance of campaigns
What we’re looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or proven working experience in digital marketing, particularly within the Islamic education industry.
- Demonstrable experience leading and managing email, social media, and/or paid advertising campaigns.
- Strong understanding of current online marketing concepts, strategy, and best practices.
- Experience with marketing automation tools (e.g., HubSpot, Marketo).
