BACKGROUND
The latest research suggesting that the number of children and young people at risk of hunger has rocketed to 2.7 million* means that one in five children don't have enough to eat. When a child is too hungry to learn, when they’re aching for something to eat, they can’t concentrate. They can’t absorb information. Big feelings and worries can be impossible to control. They fall behind in their studies.
Magic Breakfast provide a nutritious and filling breakfast to over 200,000 children and young people every school day. We work with schools in areas of high disadvantage, helping staff target the children most in need without barrier or stigma. Magic Breakfast are ambitious to grow our impact to remove hunger as a barrier to learning for all children and young people in the UK.
The new UK government’s Children’s Wellbeing Bill outlined in the King’s Speech, includes a requirement for free school breakfast clubs in every English primary school. This is a fantastic start towards ending child morning hunger. Magic Breakfast’s influence will be instrumental to ensuring school breakfasts are introduced in a way that is hunger-focused and barrier free. In 2021, the Scottish Government, pledged a not yet enacted promise to provide breakfast to primary children.
Thousands of secondary school children are at risk of losing their free school breakfasts from September next year. For many of these students, this is their only opportunity to have a nutritious meal before facing a demanding school day, including taking exams.
Solutions across all UK nations are currently either not yet actioned or are severely underserving the current need. JOB PURPOSE
Magic Breakfast’s mission is to end child morning hunger in the UK now and for good. The role of the Policy and Public Affairs Manager is to support us to deliver on this mission through influencing governments to address child morning hunger and the underlying systemic causes, in order to give every child the opportunity to reach their full potential.
The Policy and Public Affairs Manager will play a pivotal role in shaping policy initiatives and influencing decision makers across Westminster and Whitehall. Specifically, you will help ensure the new Early Adopters Programme – the government’s pilot breakfast scheme in England – is hunger-focused and puts children and young people at its centre. This in turn, will inform the national rollout of primary school breakfast provision across England from September 2026 – a policy which you will also work to influence. In tandem, you will be responsible for informing and shaping how breakfast is included and positioned in the Children’s Wellbeing Bill.
More widely, you will keep abreast of political developments relevant to Magic Breakfast, identifying opportunities to respond, influence and shape the debate. You will be able to put complex policy ideas across in simple and effective terms both in person and through reports and briefings.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and lead Magic Breakfast’s influencing strategy to shape and inform school breakfasts within the Children’s Wellbeing Bill

Engage thoroughly in the legislative process to shape how breakfast is positioned, to ensure the law protects and supports children and young people at risk of hunger

Influence and shape the scope of the Early Adopter’s Programme to inform long-term school breakfast policy across England

Work with ministers, politicians, civil servants and advisors to help shape the national rollout of school breakfasts across England

Identify and produce high-quality evidence-based responses to new policy developments, sector reports and consultations from Government, advisory bodies, other political parties and membership organisations

This will include leading efforts in regular giving, community fundraising, corporate partnerships, and major donor initiatives to drive unrestricted income. You will be instrumental in cultivating strong relationships with donors and partners, supporting grant submissions, and helping us diversify our income streams.
In this role, you will also help develop and implement a comprehensive digital fundraising strategy, working with the communications team and external consultancy partners. You will ensure our website and social media platforms are optimised for donor engagement, while driving innovation through online giving platforms, peer-to-peer fundraising, and targeted digital marketing campaigns. By leveraging emerging trends and best practices, you will help grow our online revenue streams and deepen engagement with our supporters.

Job Purpose
The Fundraising Manager will work closely with the CEO to execute the fundraising strategy for Child’s i Foundation, with a focus on driving regular giving, community fundraising, and individual giving initiatives. Additionally, you will support the CEO in cultivating major gifts and managing corporate partnerships.
You will play a key role in providing collaborative support to our emerging fundraising effort in Uganda, particularly with their innovative 'Giving Circle' programme, which is backed by the Ugandan Board. Working closely with the communications team in Uganda, you will help deliver impactful campaigns that raise awareness and inspire donor engagement. In this role, you will also ensure the highest standards in database management and full compliance with data protection regulations.
This role will be UK-based, with occasional team meetings in various locations across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
1. Community Fundraising and Regular Giving:

Develop and execute strategies to increase income from individual donors and community fundraising efforts.

Manage and expand our existing personalised donor stewardship programme, enhancing engagement with regular givers while growing the donor base and building long-term partnership.

Develop and manage a comprehensive fundraising event calendar, incorporating high-impact challenge events, community-driven initiatives, and donor engagement activities to maximise donations and donor retention

Grow regular giving through campaigns, such as the Christmas Appeal and The Big Give, while bringing your own expertise and creative ideas to develop new fundraising initiatives.

2. Corporate Partnerships:

3. Major Donor Programme:

Person Specification (Skills & Experience) Essential:

Proven experience in raising funds across diverse income streams (e.g., regular giving, community fundraising, corporate partnerships, and major donors).

Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage and maintain donor and partner relationships, combined with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Expertise in developing and implementing fundraising strategies that meet or exceed ambitious income targets, including creative campaign design (e.g., The Big Give).

Experience in managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines, demonstrating strong organisational and time management abilities.

We’re looking for someone special with experience of campaigning, including an understanding of its basic tools and techniques, experience of interpreting complex policy issues for a public audience, and knowledge of the Northern Irish political and public policy landscape.

- Be a first point of contact for campaigners in Northern Ireland, who want to improve services in their local area, and recruit and manage a sustainable network of local campaign volunteers specific to Northern Ireland.

- Provide expert advice and support to colleagues and campaigners on how best to influence decision makers in Northern Ireland.

As a Digital Campaigner and Fundraiser (German Language), your tasks will include:
Digital, Creative, Comms
- Identify European campaign opportunities and develop and lead on campaigns from planning phase, to execution, pulling out the creative digital tactics in between
- Storytelling - Write strong, compelling copy which results in our members taking action on various issues, including for email and social media platforms
- Tailor our emails fundraisers and messages to the German context
- Manage email communications with our German members, including setting up and sending emails using our online campaigning tools (currently, ActionKit), and analysing data and user engagement
- Run ads in your country to optimise our campaigns for growth and impact
- Stay up-to-date with digital campaigning and marketing trends and find innovative ways to apply them at WeMove Europe

About You - Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Digital Campaigner and Fundraiser (German Language) who brings these qualities to the table:
- You are comfortable with and excited by helping people understand their own power and becoming agents of change
- You understand the power of words and stories to make change, and you write great copy and have great writing skills in English and German
- You speak and write German at a native or fluent (C2) level
- Results drive you and crave more data, keen to run tests that are backed by statistical significance and are always looking to improve your work
- You excel at finding visuals and creating engaging graphics and video content for campaigns.
- You are comfortable with new software, online tools and all things digital

Overview

Fundraising and Grant Writing: Work with the Programme Director to identify funding opportunities, lead the drafting and reviewing of proposals, concept notes, and grant applications for the HAMRAH initiative and its cohort organisations. Monitor funding trends and donor priorities to develop tailored and compelling proposals.
Policy and Joint Advocacy: Support HAMRAH and cohort organisations in designing and implementing targeted joint advocacy campaigns, including strategy and messaging development. Help facilitate policy dialogue and engagement with relevant stakeholders, including government officials, donors, and civil society networks, to advance the priorities of HAMRAH and its cohort organisations.
Research and Analysis: Conduct research and analysis to inform programme strategies, advocacy efforts, and policy development. Who we are
Animal Equality is an international animal protection organisation working with society, governments and companies to end cruelty to farmed animals. Animal Equality has offices in the United Kingdom, United States, Germany, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Brazil and India.
Animal Equality releases investigative materials captured from inside factory farms and slaughterhouses, exposing the conditions that farmed animals face around the world. We publish our findings on television, in newspapers and online. We routinely secure mainstream media coverage, including on the BBC, ITV, Sky news, The Times, the Guardian, New York Times and many more.
Animal Equality also advocates for political change. Our current campaigns include a UK ban on foie gras imports, increased enforcement of existing animal protection laws, legal protections for farmed fish, and Government subsidies for transitioning towards a plant-based food system.
We focus on farmed animals because of the scale and severity of the issue. More than a billion animals are confined and killed for human consumption every year in the UK. Farmed animals also often suffer in some of the worst ways: pigs typically endure painful mutilations, many chickens die of heart attacks, fish are confined in underwater cages, and some farmed animals are victims of deliberate abuse and neglect. An experienced advocate with a sound understanding of the UK political system and legislative process, the Policy and Advocacy Specialist will be responsible for leading on Animal Equality’s life-saving legal advocacy campaigns on behalf of farmed animals.

- Produce compelling briefings: Develop high-quality, evidence-based responses to new policy developments, animal agriculture industry reports, Government consultations, and more. Craft politically persuasive briefings, including formal policy submissions, briefings, blogs, and press statements. Lead on the dissemination of relevant information to key political stakeholders.
- Work closely with campaigning colleagues: Work with colleagues in the Communications, Marketing, and Campaigns Departments to support the effective execution of public awareness campaigns that raise Animal Equality UK’s public profile and inform members of the public about the plight of farmed animals. Keep abreast of relevant political developments and maintain Animal Equality’s strong external policy presence through coordinated, proactive, and reactive lobbying and campaigning efforts.
- Grow strategically aligned partnerships: Liaise with and, where appropriate, convene fellow experts and advocacy organisations to gather intelligence, share best practice, and canvas opinion to inform policy positions. Support Animal Equality’s engagement in coalitions.
- Support in the organisation of events: Assist in the organisation of key events to inform and influence policymakers. Represent Animal Equality, where appropriate, at policy and networking events.
- Monitor outcomes: Measure, track, and critically evaluate policy developments, ensuring internal alignment on key issues and opportunities associated with our current campaigns. Manage against a set budget and agreed deadlines, reporting on the performance and progress against set deliverables. Share learnings with colleagues and fellow advocates.

Salary and benefits
Salary band £32,500-£35,000, depending on experience. This is a remote working opportunity (UK-based candidates only); colleagues are expected to attend mandatory monthly meet-ups in central London.

We're looking for a Community Fundraising Manager - it's a great opportunity to develop a plan and deliver a diverse portfolio of fundraising activities to engage people with our work and contribute to our income.
You will manage a team to help develop innovative fundraising products, grow our supporter base and provide exceptional supporter stewardship.
Income generation
- Responsible for supporting the development of a 3-year community fundraising income strategy to grow income from a modest base of £125k per year to circa £275k per year.
- Implement the operational plan for community fundraising income.
- Plan, develop and deliver new community fundraising products, campaigns and events that will resonate with stakeholders including members, donors and volunteers to fundraise.
- Work collaboratively with Comms, Marketing & Digital teams to develop and drive forward promotion of community fundraising to reach existing and new audiences, including developing content for social channels, e-comms, webpages and fundraising packs.
- Establish a network of community fundraisers, building relationships with community fundraising ‘champions’, and providing excellent supporter care and timely communication.
- Evaluate community fundraising projects regularly and make changes when necessary.
Leadership, management and collaboration
