This is a newly created role offering a unique opportunity for an experienced finance professional to shape the position while leading a knowledgeable and dedicated team. You will be responsible for the university’s external financial reporting, VAT and corporation tax compliance, and treasury management. Collaborating with teams across Financial Systems, Operations, and Finance Business Partnering, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring financial excellence.
In this hands-on role, you will manage year-end financial statements, coordinate with auditors, and oversee financial administration for all capital projects, monitoring and reporting on expenditure against budget. About the Role
Reporting directly to the Deputy Director of Finance & Procurement, the Financial Accounting Manager's key responsibilities will:
- To assist the Deputy Director of Finance and Procurement with the preparation of the School and subsidiary annual financial statements, including compliance with FE/HE SORP and Office for Students' accounts direction.
- To prepare the School's quarterly VAT and annual corporation tax returns
- To monitor the School's cash position and prepare regular cash flow statements
- To liaise, as appropriate, with the School's external auditors, tax advisors and HMRC representatives
- To contribute to the operation and development of the School's financial IT system (Agresso) and other finance systems, in particular assisting with the development of financial reports.
- To ensure the integrity and completeness of the financial ledgers for monthly, quarterly and year end accounts
- To co-ordinate the financial administration of all capital projects and monitor and report on expenditure against budget
- To assist the Deputy Director of Finance and Procurement with the appraisal of capital projects, investments and other projects.
- To assist in the preparation of the School's financial forecast, with specific responsibility for forecasting the School's structure of assets and liabilities
- To ensure that financial systems, regulations, procedures and controls are in place to safeguard assets and meet the School's internal and external reporting obligations
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for an experienced finance professional who combines strategic insight with operational expertise. You will have:
- A formally qualified accountant
- Relevant and appropriate experience in finance and management obtained in a complex organisation
- An excellent communicator who is able to influence at all levels within the organisation

Summary of the role:
The Fundraising Volunteer Assistant (Ramadan Campaign) plays a crucial role in the lead up to and post Ramadan. The role provides critical support in fundraising collections and events. It plays a vital role in guaranteeing the secure storage and prompt utilisation of all funds and pledges. Additionally, it will collaborate and coordinate volunteers in their involvement in diverse fundraising endeavours (e.g. events, mosque activities and street collections).
The role will involve working occasional unsociable hours (weekends and evenings) and national travel, sometimes at short notice, during the Ramadan period to maximise our income generating opportunities.
About the Role:
- Support organised activities and events as part of the Ramadan work-plan.
- Maximum campaign engagement and fundraising on a community level across Mosques and relevant institutions.
- Communicate with Mosques and local organisations to schedule events and collections.
- Maintain communication and follow up with relevant stakeholders (donors, supporters, and volunteers etc) promoting the campaign.
- Provide administrative assistance to the Community Fundraising Volunteer Department.

Job Purpose:
Pelican Parcels has grown from supporting 500 children in our first year, to now helping over 5,700 annually. We have been able to grow at this incredible rate due to the amazing people and organisations across Brighton and Hove. Our fundraising pipeline is overflowing, and our network of supporters continues to grow each year.
We now need to bring in an enthusiastic fundraiser to work alongside our experienced volunteers and trustees, helping us strengthen and grow these relationships.
The Fundraising Manager will implement our fundraising plan. We have been successful in securing all funds needed for 2024/25, so this role will:

PELICAN PARCELS FUNDRAISING MANAGER
Role: Fundraising Manager
Reports to: Shelley Bennett, Co-Founder & Trustee
Contract: Permanent. PAYE.
Salary: £21,000 per annum (£35,000 FTE)
Holidays: pro rata 20 days annually plus bank holidays, plus Christmas office closure e.g., in 2025 this will be an extra 4 days
Review Period: 3 months Notice Period: 2 months
Location: This role will work in a hybrid way. We are based in a warehouse in the centre of Hove, next to Hove Station and expect you to be able to come to the office once a week.
Hours: part-time 3 days a week. We are flexible about working patterns within the week (agreed 1 month in advance). There will be the possibility of working outside standard hours when agreed in advance e.g. open warehouse event, donor cultivation, community fundraising events.

ABOUT US
Pelican Parcels (PP) works in Brighton & Hove to recycle pre-loved essential items for babies and primary school aged children. We take them from families who no longer need them and give them to those who do. We are the only baby bank in the city. In 5 years, we have supported over 20,000 children aged 0-12 as well as pregnant mothers, reflecting the high level of need and deprivation in our city.
In 2023 our 5,774 parcels (an increase of 136% in the last 3 years)

Beds: we give out moses baskets, cots & single beds, blanket & sleeping bag sets & bedding bundles. We are giving out over 5 beds a week.

Books: in November we began supporting nurseries to give out books to pre-school children, supplying 248 books.
We collect items, receive referrals and distribute them to those in need

Collect: We have regular open sessions where people drop off items. Our 29 volunteers sort and organise donations ready for redistribution.

Referral: Once referrals and requests for items are received from partners, our volunteers process and package them.

Distribution: Our parcels are distributed by our partners at scheduled visits, through children's centres, foodbanks, schools and charity networks. Partners collect the parcels from our warehouse or we take them to their places of work.

Our Fundraising Plans
Funding has been achieved so far from diverse sources including Brighton and Hove City Council, individuals (from a few pounds to thousands), a range of trusts and foundations and companies.
We now wish to grow our fundraising programme in response to the demand we are seeing to help more families.
Our income has continued to grow. In 2022/2023 income was £90k, up from £38k in just 2 years. We raised £190k in 2023/2024 and have already raised over £220k for 2024/25.
We know we need to continue to grow to meet demand for our service. We need a bigger warehouse (we have plans to move in early 2025) and additional staff soon afterwards. We have built up reserves to support 3 months of operations costs and the warehouse move of £117k.
We plan to grow our turnover to £250k by 2026/2027. We have already secured 25% of what is needed for 25/26 and 20% for 26/27.
ROLE BACKGROUND
Our trustees Carla Pannett and Lucy Stone take the lead on fundraising for the Charity. Carla and Lucy will continue to support this work and role.
Lucy leads on Trusts and Foundation relationships alongside Brighton and Hove City Council funding applications. We feel confident with our level of work and growth in these areas. We have a number of multiple year funders confirmed, a range of funders who fund annually following applications and a pipeline of new trusts.
Carla leads on corporate partnerships, individual giving, community and events fundraising. We believe there is more growth possible here which is why the role will focus heavily in these areas. One-off and regular donations continue to be made.
We have just completed a crowdfunding campaign in August 2024. £42,198 + Gift Aid (so far) has been raised during the ‘Children in Brighton & Hove need your help’ crowdfunder. It has been a smashing success due to 192 supporters, raising our profile across the city and beyond. This was a mix of trusts and foundation, individual and corporate giving. We want to ensure that we make the most of relationships developed during the crowdfunder.

The post holder will be fully involved in all aspects of the day-to-day management of their designated service, including line managing the relevant front-line staff. Role Overview:
This is a new role, providing an opportunity to develop and evolve it. As Compliance Officer, you will be the Charity’s lead and expert on compliance with its external regulatory requirements and internal policies. Specifically, you will be responsible for managing and assuring compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements, including UK charity law, financial regulations, GDPR, safeguarding, and anti-money laundering regulations.
You will report directly to the CEO and provide advice and assistance to the Senior Management Team, as well as personnel across the Charity. The role focuses on advising, assisting, and supporting others while maintaining the authority and independence to ensure compliance.
Main Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain a robust compliance programme that ensures adherence to internal and external policies, legal and regulatory requirements, and sector best practices.
- Work with various departments to maintain and implement compliance assurance across the Charity, ensuring that appropriate and reasonable measures are in place in line with legislative changes and sector best practices.
- Conduct regular audits, compliance reviews, and spot checks to identify risks, evaluate controls, and manage compliance risks, including investigations and reporting findings.
- Act as the main point of contact for external regulators, auditors, and clients, including the Charity Commission and the Fundraising Regulator.
- Manage the process of periodic audits as per the compliance framework, identifying actions for remediation and developing action plans to address risks.

About James’ Place
James’ Place Charity was set up by Clare Milford Haven and Nick Wentworth-Stanley in 2008 after their twenty-one-year-old son, James, died by suicide ten days after a minor operation. James had no history of mental illness or depression and had sought urgent help for anxiety and
suicidal thoughts, but didn’t find it. James' Place was set up to make the experience of finding help as easy as possible. James’ Place offers men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis a brief, intensive, therapeutic intervention in a safe environment. Men who walk through the door at James’ Place will be in a space where they feel valued and respected.
The first James’ Place opened in June 2018 in Liverpool, the first of its kind in the UK, and has to date supported more than 2,300 men experiencing suicidal crisis through our innovative and safe therapeutic intervention. We provide a calm and peaceful environment both inside the centre and in our landscaped garden, accessible to men who visit us as well as their friends and families.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Associate Director to join RedR and its Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to oversee the efficient and effective functioning of our organisation's key operational areas, including Operations, People Management, Finance, Security and Compliance. The Associate Director will play a pivotal role as part of the SLT in ensuring the smooth implementation of our humanitarian programmes while upholding the highest standards of excellence, accountability, integrity, collaboration and lifelong learning.
You will have a deep understanding of how to deliver programmes in a humanitarian context in a safe, secure and compliant manner. You will enhance delivery through standard operating procedures across the organisation and lead by doing.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Management
You will lead a finance team of 2 (both part-time), responsible for excellent financial management, controls, reporting, budgeting, and auditing (both internal and external) including:
- Maintaining up-to-date financial records, including processing invoices, payments, and managing accounts payable and receivable.
- Month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
- Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes, managing cashflow.
- Oversee payroll processing and reimbursement procedures.
- Analysis of financial data and preparation of reports for leadership review.
- Set standards for programme staff on financial budgeting and reporting
- Stay informed about changes in accounting regulations and best practices.
- Lead the improvement of finance and accounting processes and systems.
- Prepare consolidated Financial Statements in accordance with Charity SORP FRS 102.
- Lead on external audits to ensure that all external audit requirements are met in the UK and Jordan and associated statutory reporting (e.g. to HMRC).
- Lead on regular internal audits and apply learnings in improving systems.
- Lead on fraud and corruption prevention and response, and cyber security.
- Work with SLT and business teams to prepare UK and overseas regulatory annual reporting.
- Actively engage in the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee meetings, leading on behalf of the SLT.
Operational Delivery
You will systematically enhance, streamline and optimise operational processes and systems to enhance delivery and security of people. You will lead on efficiency, quality, and scalability while availing technological advancement. This includes systems, IT, CRM, facilities and vendor management. You will be supported by an operations officer to deliver this role:
- Provide administrative support to the Operations, IT functions of the organisation.
- Leading process improvement and renewals (e.g. insurance) across Operations, (e.g. IT, security).
- Enhancing adherence to organisational systems, e.g. Office 365, Sharepoint, Salesforce, ensuring the organisation becomes more efficient and effective in how it works.
- Lead any country registration, reporting, resourcing requirements, ensuring compliance and adherence to RedR policies.
- Lead on policy review, updates and roll out.
- Maintain RedR’s risk register and ensure its regular review throughout the organisation.
- Leading a robust approach to data security.
- Ensure the delivery of best practice security management through risk management, situational analysis, assessment, plan implementation, monitoring and evaluation, continuity and crisis planning and leadership. Lead the delivery of security management standard operating practice, protocols and procedures to support programmes and staff in the field.
- Actively engage in the Senior Leadership Team.
- Lead the preparation of monthly All Hands and Quarterly Team Meetings; and preparation for Board meetings.
People & Culture
- You will lead the People & Culture function at RedR and be supported in that coordination by a HR business partner.
- Implement HR policies and procedures to support a diverse workforce including employees, consultants and Associate trainers and members.
- Supporting a positive and healthy working culture across the organisation.
- Enshrine best practice people processes including in recruitment, onboarding, professional development and performance management.
- Manage any organisational change management processes and ensure that RedR UK’s culture and values are embedded across the organisation.
- Analyse resource requirements and utilisation across programmes, providing insights and recommendations; collaborate with programmes to develop strategies for optimising resource allocation and utilisation. Establish mechanisms for ongoing monitoring of resource allocation and utilisation across programmes.
