Phoenix Community Housing has an exciting opportunity and are looking for an Executive Director of Finance to join the forward-thinking and customer focussed Executive Team.

You will be responsible for ensuring that Phoenix complies with all financial regulatory requirements, and that supports the delivery of the Board's strategic objectives.

This role combines the Finance, Procurement and Commercial teams at an exciting time as Phoenix looks to strengthen its strategic approach to tackling the issues faced by the sector and to deliver the homes and services our residents need to build a better future for our Phoenix Community.

Following a recent restructure, this role requires a hands-on forward-looking Director of Finance, who will embed a business partnering, value added culture within the Finance team.

Job Description

Key responsibilities

• Financial stewardship - Leading business critical functions: treasury, business planning, financial accounting and processing services, procurement and commercial; strengthening Phoenix's financial position leading to the ongoing protection of its viability and investment standing
• Customer driven decisions - Being instrumental in overseeing the use of financial insight and feedback to continue supporting a customer-led approach to effective decision making
• Risk and assurance - Ensure all risks are identified, removed, minimised or balanced with appropriate rewards, and monitor risk mitigation strategies, ensuring all future plans are robust, tested and appropriate
• Treasury management - Effective negotiation and relationship-building with lenders and other bodies to obtain funding at the most beneficial rates for Phoenix, working in partnership with the Chief Executive and Executive Team.
• Procurement - Develop and deliver procurement strategies that ensure Phoenix meets all legal requirements and achieves value for money, and that are aligned with the Corporate Plan and other corporate strategies.
• Commercial - Delivery of commercial strategies that maximise income for Phoenix while aligning with our ethos and values, and with our community investment activities.

The Successful Applicant

What you will need

• Leadership - Executive experience or held a senior management position with regular exposure to the Executive Team. Leading a finance and treasury team with the ability to lead and inspire a diverse workforce
• Strategic thinker - demonstrate a cross-organisational solution focused approach, having had exposure to boards and committees, helping drive organisational change.
• Qualified accountant - CCAB or equivalent qualified accountant with a proven track record of achievement

The ideal candidate will have worked in social housing or other relevant industries.

FOOD Club Support Worker will support all aspects of the day-to-day running of the programme, to ensure the clubs have high standards of service delivery. 

You will have previous experience in at least one of the following environments: retail, health & safety, environmental health, education and/or previous work with families 

You will have an enthusiasm for delivering high quality customer service and have a clear understanding of food hygiene standards and procedures.

Main Responsibilities:

Our FOOD (Food On Our Doorstep) programme aims to: provide regular access to a sustainable supply of food to people at risk of food insecurity; encourage families to access local support services and be signposted to other agencies; increase disposable income for local families to improve life chances and wellbeing; reduce the amount of food being sent to landfill in the UK by utilising surplus food. 

Key tasks and responsibilities:

1. Supporting all aspects of the day-to-day running of the programme to ensure the clubs have high standards of service delivery.

2. Supporting the FOOD Club Coordinator to carry out regular compliance checks to ensure the quality and safety of the service, in order to protect service users and Family Action. 

3. Ensuring all aspects of the role are carried out in line with food safety/hygiene standards.

4. Ensure volunteers are using up-to-date allergies forms to prevent any risk to service users.

5. Support the FOOD Club Coordinator with financial checks, stock control, recruitment, induction and training of volunteers.

6. Recording accurate data to enable the FOOD Club Coordinator to report on KPIs, including uptake of the scheme, service user income, and the positive financial impact on families. 

7. Encourage regular attendance at FOOD Clubs to ensure income is maintained and to prevent food wastage. 

8. Provide regular feedback to the FOOD Club Coordinator on the quality of food and resources from suppliers.

St Giles have been working across the Midlands for the past 7 years delivering peer led services supporting people impacted by disadvantage, youth violence and offending. Our work has evolved from prison training and rehabilitation services to community outreach including working in local A&E hospitals, police custody and within local authority teams. From our Coventry hub we offer a range of peer training, mentoring and more recently we have just opened a food pantry service to local people struggling with food poverty. Recently we have opened second office in Wolverhampton as the team and projects continue to expand.

About this exciting opportunity

The Police Custody In-Reach Service has recently launched across two main custody suites at Perry Barr & Oldbury. We have embedded credible lived experienced and culturally competent workers into the custody suites to use the arrest as a reachable moment to engage with CYP under 25 years of age of any gender that have been arrested for criminal activities, gangs, and related issues such as carrying weapons, drug related offences, violence and county lines and wider exploitation concerns. The service provided uses a trauma-informed approach to support in a number of areas (e.g., housing, finances, substance misuse, mental health, training, employment, family matters). Initial contact is made in custody suites, followed by meeting in the community to provide tailored support.

You will provide a high-level service to young people 11-25 impacted by gangs, youth violence, county lines and exploitation as either victims or perpetrators. You will help each young person to identify and realise alternative aspirations and goals to support them to establish lifestyles that move them away from criminal activities, gang involvement, violence, and negative life choices.

What we are looking for

•  Personal experience of the criminal justice system, lived experience of the issues facing this client group and/or experience of working with ‘high risk’, vulnerable children, young people and/or families.
• Experience of engaging positively and deter young people aged 11-25 in custody from offending once they have been identified as being involved in a violence related incident, being at risk of exploitation or gang affiliated.
• Experience of engaging successfully with challenging people, for example people who have complex needs, people who are reluctant to discuss their needs, and people who are angry and confused.
• Experience of providing support, advice and advocacy and the ability to assess clients’ needs.

37.5 hours per week / permanent / working across Monday to Friday 9am-5pm, office based in Eastbourne, delivering Transitional Services in the community across Eastbourne, Bexhill, St Leonards and Hastings.

Our mission is to help children and young people have a fair chance to be who they want to be. We do this by providing a safe home, increasing life skills and self-confidence, and improving emotional wellbeing and mental health.

East Sussex Transitional Housing is a low-support service, providing safe, secure, supported accommodation for 102 young people between the ages of 18-25 who have been, or are, at risk of homelessness. We have a small, supportive, and established team which manages 19 housing properties across, Eastbourne, Bexhill and Hastings. We adopt a trauma informed and psychologically informed approach to supporting our residents to help them build essential life skills, identify their goals and work towards aspirations so that they can move on to enjoy fully independent futures.

We are looking for a Supported Housing Support Worker to join our East Sussex Transitional team. You will be based at the YMCA office in Eastbourne but will be visiting our seven properties around Eastbourne each week, meeting with residents in their homes and at the office - main areas of responsibilities are:

Housing

• You will hold a caseload of young people who are housed across our sites with the support of the team.Support provided is light touch, and a good knowledge of partner agencies is essential for relevant signposting
• Interview young people to assess their suitability for our housing
• Support young people to manage their occupancy agreement and adhere to house rules in preparation for independent living.Helping young people navigate shared living skills is key to this role and includes facilitating house meetings, rotas and cleaning sessions
• Support young people to keep up to date with all payments for rent and liaise with housing benefit
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of housing and welfare benefits for young people
• Complete Occupancy Sign up and induction with incoming residents
• Deal effectively with non-compliance issues, such as non-payment of rent, ASB or breaches of Health and Safety, using restorative practices
• Contribute to maintaining properties to a high standard including conducting health and safety checks

Support and Engagement

• Light touch support to residents, signposting to partner agencies as appropriate
• Support each resident to develop their own person-centred Support Plan with short- and long-term goals to work towards independent living skills and their next accommodation steps
• Arrange Review Meetings with young people at least once every 3 months to update and review risk assessments and support plans
• Check in with each resident at least once a week
• Encourage a culture of education, employment and engagement
• Ensure consistent standards of safeguarding and Trauma Informed Practice when supporting young people, observing our safeguarding procedures, and keeping yourself and residents safe by respecting professional boundaries
• Maintain client records on In-Form (client database) detailing the young person’s journey in relation to their strengths and needs, any risks, and any outcomes (to monitor service performance)

Following a 3-month probation period, you will transition to a fixed-term contract. Upon successful completion of this term, you will be offered a permanent employment contract. A minimum salary of £39,695.24 gross (our salary base for people resident in the UK) will apply from the beginning of the probationary period. The salary base may change due to your previous experience related to the position, or your experience in animal advocacy (+3% for each year). In addition, the salary increases with your seniority in Open Cages according to the following model:

About your role

We are a small and ambitious early-stage organisation with two full-time team members. Our current objective: to help the 1 billion chickens raised annually in the UK. By joining us as a campaigner who focuses on communications, you will work on the frontlines by shining a light on the hidden suffering of animals trapped on factory farms, and mobilising the public to take action. Your first task will be to help us convince the UK’s largest food businesses to improve their chicken welfare policies, primarily through crafting media stories and marketing campaigns that capture the hearts and minds of the public.

While this may sound challenging, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a historic change for those who cannot stand up for themselves. Someone has to pick up the fight, and we hope it will be You.

Due to the broad scope of our work, there is no simple description of the perfect campaigner. There may also be certain areas where you are stronger than others, and we are open to fitting the role around you. We are looking for a generalist rather than a specialist. However, you do need to have some particular strengths such as resilience, persistence, creativity, and critical thinking. Ideally, some day, you will be able to lead a big team and transfer your knowledge to them.

How Will You Make a Difference? 

Amna is seeking a compassionate and experienced Arabic speaking facilitator to join Amna’s team of trainers, with therapeutic/clinical background. As a Trainer & Facilitator your responsibilities will involve delivering training sessions and group facilitation to support and create learning spaces for training participants on themes centred around trauma and identity informed psychosocial healing care with displaced communities. The role holder is expected to work on multiple responses, and will lead Amna’s Gaza and Syria responses, while working closely with Arabic speaking team members.  

Amna’s identity and trauma informed approach is centred around community healing practices with communities that aim to restore participants sense of safety, belonging, agency and joy. Amna services are co-created with the communities being worked with and we prioritise refugee participation and leadership in service design and delivery wherever possible. 

The role holders need to have experience working with communities affected by adversity, including displacement, war and conflict, poverty, abuse or marginalisation. Given the nature of Amna’s work in emergency settings with displaced communities, applicants need to be comfortable working in environments where there is uncertainty, change and exposure to distress.  

Specifically, successful candidates will have a strong experience in following areas: 

1. Work with children and families in an emergency context;

About the role

We’re looking to recruit an economist to join our Policy Solutions Team, to lead our new flagship project: “Future Fit for a Just Transition”, a central part of our partnership funded with KPMG.  Driving forward a just transition to a net zero, nature positive economy and financial system is a key priority in our strategy, and this programme will play a central role in the delivery of our objectives in this area.  It will focus on international implementation of the transition, identifying best practices and challenges faced in different countries to facilitate shared learning, promote healthy competition, identify collaborative solutions, and hence speed up implementation. 

You will be responsible for leading the methodological development and delivery of the technical work underpinning the programme, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. This will include scoping out and developing economic metrics of national level progress on the just transition to a net zero, nature positive economy, developing compelling and impactful knowledge products and undertaking international engagement on the findings.

You will lead research, compile data, produce reports, documents and briefings as well as commission and manage consultants as needed. You will both develop the content  and deliver the Flagship report, and use it to make the case for action and implementation to key stakeholders on proposed policy changes. You will also build links and strategic relationships with other organisations and other parts of the WWF global Network to promote and disseminate the work. Important will be the ability to create and provide diverse, relevant and impactful ideas for policy, and to involve communities affected by climate and nature loss in the process of policy development.

· Experience of influencing key stakeholders including in government and the business community, changing opinions, practices and creating new models to deliver policy change and business transition.

About your role

We are a small and ambitious early-stage organisation with two full-time team members. Our current objective: to help the 1 billion chickens raised annually in the UK. By joining us as a campaigner you will be both strategising and spending time on the frontlines, by talking to the biggest companies, producing investigative reports and giving media interviews. • Take risks – negotiating in a high stakes meeting, attending a farming conference, organising a protest, taking 500 videos of a retailer’s chicken products for a BBC story (yes, we did this!) – in this role you will need to be comfortable with stepping out of your comfort zone.
• Conduct research – you will spend many hours online gathering information, working with investigators and lawyers, or delivering 50 chicken products to a lab in Germany (we did this too).
• Create engaging content – you will produce emotive graphics and videos for social media, factual reports and data-driven briefings for journalists and politicians.
• Work with the media – you will engage with journalists, write press releases, and give the odd interview.
• Mobilise advocates – you will write emails to our supporters and motivate them to take action with us. You will also organise and run street actions like protests and stunts.

This is a hybrid working role; the working hours will be split between working in our office in Plymouth and the remainder working from home, so a suitable and confidential space is required.

About the role:

This is a hybrid working role with the working hours split between our office in Plymouth and working from home, therefore, residence in the Devon & Cornwall area and a confidential home work space is required. There will also be occasional travel throughout Devon & Cornwall.

Usual working hours will be Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, however you will need to provide cover 1 day per week working 10:15am to 6:15pm on a rota basis & there may be an occasional need to work outside core hours to meet the demands of the role.

As a Caseworker you will:

• Develop, deliver and monitor safety and support plans for those affected by crime who accept ongoing support, which will include providing resources, interventions, and information to all service users
• Work alongside and oversee the casework management of a small number of volunteer supporters
• Liaise and actively engage with other local providers to share information on the VS service offer and options for victims and survivors
• Use a bespoke case management system to maintain accurate and confidential records and contribute to monitoring information including the collection of outcomes
• Working as part of a team with staff and the volunteer team to provide a seamless service to clients

You will need:

• Understanding of the impact of crime on victims such as sexual violence, hate crime and fraud
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Experience of successfully delivering services and working directly within a statutory, voluntary or multi agency setting(s)
• Ability to balance competing needs and priorities
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Experience of building effective working relationships across internal and external stakeholders
• Personal resilience to manage exposure to highly emotional or sensitive demands of the role
• Ability to manage a caseload including complex case management
• Ability to use generic IT applications competently.
• A driving license and access to a vehicle as this is considered an essential requirement as this role involves regular travel
