About The Role

About the opportunity

We are looking to recruit a Dementia Adviser with a carer focussed role to join our Hertfordshire Team.

We would like to welcome approachable and knowledgeable Dementia Advisers to work in the Hertfordshire team. This is an amazing opportunity to have a rewarding career providing specific support and guidance to carers of people living with dementia. As a service we strive to help people to maintain independence, improving their sense of well-being, and putting people in more control of their own lives. We promote a person-centred service so that our support is unique to each individual, based upon their own aspirations and needs. We provide information and support in people’s homes and at different dementia support groups settings / hubs we manage and facilitate across Hertfordshire.

About you

- Passionate about supporting people to maintain their independence, improve their sense of well-being, and help them take more control of their lives.
- Experience of assessing people face to face with an ability to assess their needs.
- Strong communication skills to deliver advice and guidance with a non-judgmental and compassionate approach.
- Strong organisational and time management skills to manage caseload of clients effectively.
- Good IT skills, including experience working with databases and virtual meeting software (Teams / Zoom).
- Able to network effectively and collaborating with other professionals to achieve a positive outcome for people.
- Be able to travel independently across Hertfordshire.

Interviews will take place week commencing week 21st April 2025.

As part of the interview, you will be required to provide a 5 min presentation on a question/ task we set.

What you’ll focus on:

- You will be a ‘carer focused’ Dementia Adviser, and your main area of work will be to ensure unpaid carers are effectively supported to maintain their own wellbeing and have a life beyond their caring role (via 1-2-1 and group based support).
- You will be one of four carer focussed Dementia Advisers that will be the lead point of contact for the team in developing our specific support for carers.
- You will organise and facilitate carers support groups online and face to face.
- You will liaise and work collaboratively with wider range of stakeholders to facilitate proactive support for carers we are supporting. Key stakeholders include our Dementia Adviser team, our Group Facilitators; local organisations in South West Herts and other key stakeholders across Herts i.e. such as Memory Support Hertfordshire, Carers in Herts, Age UK.
- Specifically supporting carers South West areas i.e. Watford, Rickmansworth, Bushey.

About Alzheimer's Society

Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer. One in three people born in the UK today will develop dementia in their lifetime.

At Alzheimer’s Society, we’re the UK’s leading dementia charity and the only one to tackle all aspects of dementia by giving help and hope to people living with dementia today and in the future. We give vital support to people facing the most frightening times of their lives, while also funding ground breaking research and campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be.

Together with our supporters, we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives.

Our values make sure that our focus is clear for the challenges and opportunities ahead and remind us of what we all stand for.

Our commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging

We need to ensure the voices around our table better reflect and understand the communities we exist to serve. We strongly encourage individuals to apply who have a disability, impairment or health condition or individuals who identify as Black, Asian or from another minority ethnic background, as these groups are currently under-represented at Alzheimer’s Society.

We want everyone we work with, as a colleague, volunteer, supporter, or someone we support, to feel included and that they belong at Alzheimer's Society.

Our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy here along with our internal employee forum and Employee Lived Experience network groups help us promote inclusion and belonging, becoming an engaged and inclusive organisation for all our people.
