This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in the day to day running of the first Night Shelter in the London Borough of Sutton since 2020.

You will lead the project managing an assistant and also overseeing venue leaders and a team of volunteers.

You will be first point of contact for guests and be main point of referral for external partners.

Our vision is to see people move on into more settled accommodation so you will coordinate the involvement of external partners and signpost accordingly.

As a Christian organisation faith is a key driver in all we do. The coordinator will have pastoral responsibility for venue leaders and volunteer and the shelter assistant. The coordinator will lead by example in prayer and Christian conduct.

Summary of role 

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a pivotal role for our Alliance, acting as deputy to the Executive Director (ED) and leading on operationalising our strategy to protect children from sexual exploitation and abuse online.
The successful candidate will oversee broad areas including people management; financial management; organisational culture; diversity, equity and inclusion; safeguarding; risk management; legal and compliance; and governance structures. They will work closely with the Executive Director and wider staff team to ensure highly effective internal processes, systems, controls, policies and procedures are in place to enable the impactful delivery of our strategy.

WeProtect Global Alliance is supported by a high-performing secretariat of eleven staff based in the UK and Belgium and is guided by an influential Global Policy Board. 

Job description 

1. Organisational leadership and people management

• Work with the ED and SMT to ensure a values-led and positive organisational culture is reflected throughout ways of working, internal communication, policies and processes, and all team activities.

• Line-manage Senior Management Team (SMT) members, operational roles and other roles as necessary (currently Head of Development, Head of Communications and Engagement, Head of Policy, Advocacy and Research, and Operations Manager).

• Chair weekly SMT meetings.

• Oversee human resources and people management processes, ensuring alignment with best practice in areas including recruitment, induction, performance management, safety, wellbeing, learning and development, and benefits.

• Ensure diversity, inclusion and equity (DEI) considerations are at the forefront of all work and decisions, working alongside our expert DEI Consultant.

• Oversee the bi-annual, in-person team retreat.

• Be a key point of contact for all team members, holding regular meetings across the staff team, to understand team members’ individual perspectives, priorities, ideas and interests.

• Provide wide-ranging advice, recommendations and high-level support to the ED.

• Deputise for the ED, leading the organisation in their absence.

2. Operational management

• Oversee the annual planning process, project management, and ongoing monitoring of the organisational Action Plan.

• Lead on the drafting, regular review, and effective implementation of wide-ranging organisational processes and policies, working with expert advisors, as necessary.

• Oversee effective contract management for partners, suppliers and consultants.

• Work with the Head of Development on proposal development, grant management and reporting, and ensuring ongoing compliance with donor requirements.

• Work with the Operations Manager to oversee functions including IT, information management, and equipment.

​2. Financial oversight

• Work with the Operations Manager (responsible for day-to-day financial management), budget holders, outsourced accountancy provider, external auditors in the UK and The Netherlands, and other financial specialists on areas including:
  • Financial systems, policies and controls
  • Annual budgeting, quarterly reforecasting and monitoring. 
  • Monthly management accounts
  • Annual statutory audits and accounts
  • VAT and tax compliance
  • Banking and payment authorisation
  • Salary benchmarking

• Oversee a strong value for money culture, supported by robust policies.
• Ensure strong anti-fraud policies and procedures are in place and fully implemented.

4. Risk management, governance and compliance

• Oversee organisational risk management, maintaining the Risk Register and ensuring robust controls are in place.
• Lead safeguarding work as the SMT Safeguarding Lead; working alongside the Participation Manager and Board Safeguarding Lead to ensure robust safeguarding policies, processes, training and a strong safeguarding culture, ensuring it is a key consideration throughout all organisational activity and decision-making.
• Lead on legal and regulatory compliance issues, seeking advice from lawyers in the UK, Belgium and The Netherlands, and other experts, as necessary.
• Ensure governance structures and processes are robust and compliant.
• Ensure adequate insurance cover is in place in all jurisdictions.
• Oversee data protection and cyber-security systems, policies and processes, ensuring compliance with best practice and legal obligations.
• Oversee crisis management processes, and work as a key member of any crisis management committees.

5. Stakeholder engagement

• Liaise with the Management Board and Global Policy Board on operational and governance issues, producing reports and presentations as required.
• Maintain strong and effective relationships with a broad range of external stakeholders including Alliance members, partners, consultants, service-providers, donors, lawyers, auditors, regulators, and advisors.
• Represent the Alliance at external events when required.

6. Wider organisational responsibilities

About the role:

Our Health team has an exciting opportunity for two people to join the team. One of these roles will be a permanent position focused in our North London TST team, and one fixed term appointment (12 months) to join our team in a Camden focusing on Mental Health, with an emphasis on improving the barriers faced by those experiencing homelessness when accessing health care. 

As a Health Lead, your role will focus on developing and embedding SHPs health approach into the services the charity provides.  It will involve working with and supporting those living within our hostels who have underlying health needs to access and maintain the health care they need. To complete initial health screening tools, create a health support profile  plan for each client and to make referrals to and support them in engaging with the correct services  (i.e. dentistry, podiatry). In this role you will complete health mapping and use this information to influence partnerships formed with external services to help overcome barriers faced by those experiencing homelessness. 

The approach taken with clients will be psychologically informed, incorporating an understanding of Personality Disorder, complex trauma and addiction.  The outcomes for your role, include developing positive and sustained relationships of trust with clients, supporting them to engage in health care support and see an improvement in their overall physical health.

• A knowledge of (or willingness to learn) about common health issues and the barriers to health access that people experiencing homelessness may encounter.

The Events Assistant[CF1]  is a crucial role at the College as you will help and support colleagues in the delivery of events, from administrative assistance in planning the events, to the production of event documentation, branding or collateral, in addition to liaising with events stakeholders, including speakers, programme leads and delegates.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced HR generalist to join a leading international anti-slavery organisation. You will be leading in a London-based HR and Operations team of four staff with high levels of autonomy and the ability to make a visible difference. We are looking for a passionate Freedom Caseworker to deliver Freedom, a pet fostering service for individuals fleeing domestic abuse, in the South East of England.

About this role:
As Freedom Caseworker, you’ll:

• support pets and their owners through the referral and placement process, assessing the dogs and matching them with fosterers where appropriate.
• ensure that, while on placement, the welfare and behaviour of fostered dogs is monitored, and that volunteer foster carers feel supported,
• maintain regular contact with clients, providing updates on their dogs foster placement, receiving updates on their housing status from their support agency, and ultimately, arrange for owners and dogs to be reunited.

About you:
To be successful in this role, you’ll need significant experience of assessing and handling a variety of dogs in a rescue or rehoming centre environment, while also having a good understanding of domestic abuse and the problems faced by individuals fleeing domestic abuse with pets. You’ll also need to be a personable, confident communicator, who is comfortable handling sensitive and challenging situations appropriately and professionally. You’ll also need some experience of home visiting and working in a public facing role. Finally, we’re looking for a candidate with some experience of driving as part of a previous role, as driving will be a big part of the Freedom Caseworker position.

Most referrals come from women fleeing domestic abuse via women-only services. The service places dogs into volunteer foster homes on a temporary basis until their owners are able to be reunited with them. The Freedom Project runs in Greater London and the Home Counties, Yorkshire, the North East, the North West, East Anglia, Scotland, Wales, and Hampshire.

This role is homebased but will involve significant travel across South East England and to other Freedom areas when required. Due to the nature of this role, this post is for women only and is exempt under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010. We support people living with mental health problems to develop a sense of independence, purpose and fulfilment; to develop their social networks and gain the skills they need to return to work or training where this is their goal. You will support the delivery of our Employment Service which will see you focus on motivating, supporting and providing person-centred advice and guidance to people receiving support to enable them to move into suitable and sustainable work.

As well as a good understanding of people with mental health problems, you have experience of networking/liaising with local employers and the initiative to develop and promote a service. Excellent motivational, presentation and listening skills are essential too, as is a willingness to travel in the local area and occasionally work outside of office hours. Customer focused, well organised and collaborative in approach, you are a great administrator and pride yourself on your word processing skills and ability to keep accurate computer records/use a database. A flexible approach to working to ensure effective service delivery is essential.

This is a full-time role requiring the post holder to work 37.5 hours per week.
