Young Citizens is an education charity on a mission to empower young people to actively engage in society. This is a new role that will help Young Citizens ensure that our portfolio of long-standing and newly developed educational programmes and events are of the highest quality for schools and young people across the UK.

You will support the coordination team in delivering a series of events throughout the year, including our longest-running programme, the Bar Mock Trial Competition, which involves 22 events over six consecutive weeks in November. We work with schools, venues, and volunteers to provide inspiring learning experiences and programmes for children and young people.

You will contribute directly to our mission by leading the delivery of our school events programme. This includes responsibility for all aspects of event planning, delivery, and management, partner and volunteer development and management, audience development and evaluation, and events budgeting.

Accountabilities

Digital Skills Development:

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience

Essential:

• Proven experience in a learning and development coordination role or a similar administrative position.
• Strong proficiency in digital tools and platforms, including Learning Management Systems (LMS), e-learning tools (e.g., Articulate, Adobe Captivate, Canva, Synthesis), and other digital collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom).
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.

What the job involves

The Policy and Health Influencing teams are responsible for using clinical data and evidence to shape what the organisation thinks and to develop solutions that drive change for men with and at risk of prostate cancer. This means working with clinicians, patients and stakeholders to interpret the latest changes in prostate cancer research, care, support and treatment which will help shape our strategic direction and activities.

As the Health Improvement Coordinator, you're key to supporting these teams. You'll have a varied and far-reaching portfolio of work and sometimes arranging important stakeholder events and meetings ensuring we're hearing from people who've been through prostate cancer themselves. You'll also help share our work on social media and capturing the outcomes of our external engagement.

In this role you’ll assist us in keeping track of and evaluating our progress in line with our organisational strategy, as well as keeping an eye on trends in the wider cancer and health landscape and reporting on them. Plus, you'll handle budget matters and make sure we have effective budget monitoring mechanisms in place.

What we want from you

We’re looking for a Coordinator who is highly organised, an effective communicator and know how to adapt and effectively prioritise your time. You’ll have excellent coordination skills and can organise others too (especially teams which are based across the UK) and have experience of creating and updating forward planners, project schedules and streamlining team processes. You’ll be able to comfortably engage with senior managers and a breadth of external senior level stakeholders. Regularly taking the initiative to drive improvements so that the teams you support can operate efficiently.

With skills in collecting and utilising data to monitor, trend, and report on activity, you're proactive in acting on the results. You’ll have some experience or interest in working in the health or volunteer sector. You’re also quick to learn and capable at picking up new systems including those for budget management and products’ fulfilment.

As the Finance and Team assistant, you will have experience in an administrative and finance role and have the ability to deal effectively with suppliers, internal teams and freelance contractors.

Responsibilities: Finance

• Expense and invoice Management: Accurately file and record expenses and invoices using QuickBooks or Xero
• Payments: weekly payment run and payroll
• Cash flow reporting: Assist in preparing and maintaining monthly cash flow reports and tracking spend across projects as directed by the CFO
• VAT returns: Handle quarterly VAT returns to ensure compliance with UK financial regulations
• Tax: Provide assistance with tax preparation and compliance

The HR and Team Coordinator will help ensure that Purposeful Ventures runs smoothly and efficiently.

You’ll work most closely with the Head of People, helping her to keep all of our HR administration in good shape and making sure that current and prospective staff are informed of and supported through HR matters across the employee lifecycle. Responsibilities and duties

Provide effective and efficient HR administration throughout the employee lifecycle for both Purposeful Ventures and its incubated ventures and funds, including: 

• being the first point of contact for the HR mailbox;
• managing employee onboarding and offboarding processes;
• coordinating all HR admin processes; 
• upkeep of the HR Information System, CharlieHR; and
• administration of all recruitment procedures from job application to appointment, using Team Tailor. 

Contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the Purposeful Ventures Team, by providing team coordination and administrative support, including: 

• being the first point of contact for general enquiries;

We are looking for a Programme Coordinator who will support the growth and development of the Democracy Classroom network, helping teachers and youth practitioners to engage young people in politics, democracy and elections. 

ABOUT THE POLITICS PROJECT

We support young people to use their voice by providing them with outstanding democratic education. We work with young people, teachers and politicians to help them to learn, teach and engage in politics. We are a non-partisan organisation working across the UK. 

ABOUT DEMOCRACY CLASSROOM 

Democracy Classroom is a partnership between over 100 civil society organisations that supports young people to engage in elections and democracy. The network supports collaboration through newsletters, training, meet up’s and an annual conference, as well as providing resources and training for teachers and youth practitioners. Democracy Classroom pools the collective support of the sector through the Democracy Classroom Platform, where teachers and youth workers can access the collective support of the membership. 

Following the recent General Election, the network has experienced growth and is now preparing to support upcoming elections, votes at 16 and new developments such as changes to democratic education and the curriculum review. The network is non-partisan and works across all 4 nations in the UK. 

The aims of the network include: 

Increasing the number of young people engaging with democracy and elections.

Increasing the number of teachers and youth workers delivering democratic education, and strengthening their capacity to deliver impactful democratic engagement and voter registration activities in schools, colleges and youth settings across the UK.

Improving coordination between organisations engaging young people across the youth, education and democracy sectors, through growing the Democracy Classroom network.

The post holder will work with the Director and the Programme Manager of Democracy Classroom to support the growth of the Democracy Classroom network by managing the website / platform. They will:

• Liaise with partners to compile learning resources and training opportunities to share on the platform.
• Add resources, training opportunities and other relevant information to the platform as required.
• Ensure the platform is kept up to date and accessible.
• Support Democracy Classroom communication channels - producing Democracy Classroom newsletters and creating engaging social media content to highlight the work of partners, their learning resources and training opportunities, on the platform.

The post holder will also:

• Coordinate training for teachers and youth workers to deliver election education materials.
• Manage the Democracy Classroom database. 
• Assist with monitoring and evaluation.
• Provide administrative support for the Democracy Classroom network and other The Politics Project programmes and activities where required.

The job is based on a 12 month, fixed term contract (including a 6-month probation period), with opportunities for extension. 

The Politics Project is based in London, and the post holder will be expected to work from the office at least two days a week. The hours of work are 37.5 hrs per week. Occasional travel to elsewhere in the UK and working unsocial hours in the evenings and at weekends may be required.

Key Responsibilities 

• Ask for and check references for new volunteers
• Coordinate and attend volunteer recruitment events, such as Universities; organise volunteers and staff to support
