We’re an award-winning charity running local learning centres in the heart of the communities where the young people we support live. Our centres provide a high-impact education programme which includes practical learning support, pastoral care, and motivational and confidence-building activities for young people aged 7-18. Our aim is to enable students from the least advantaged neighbourhoods to realise their ambitions and achieve their wonderful potential.
As the UK’s leading university access organisation, our staff team is helping over 50,000 young people each year at its 43 learning centres and extension projects across England and Scotland, and we plan to scale-up our provision to 50 centres over the coming years.
We are looking for a high-calibre candidate to take up a permanent role as Centre Leader at our new IntoUniversity centre in Gateshead. You will have responsibility for setting up, launching and running your IntoUniversity centre, including managing your team, planning and delivering the programme, liaising with external stakeholders and meeting IntoUniversity’s targets for delivery. However, a substantial element of this role is delivering our education programme to children and young people aged 7-18, so you will need to have a genuine passion and enthusiasm for working with young people, including leading a class of 30 from the front, working with small teams of children and providing one-to-one support.

Contract: Full-time, permanent

Eligibility for the role
In order to be eligible for the Centre Leader role, applicants will:
- Have completed an undergraduate degree to a 2.2 or higher.
- Have achieved a grade C/ grade 4 or higher in GCSE Maths and English/ achieved National 5s or Standard Grade at Credit level (grades 1-2) in Maths and English (or equivalent).
- Have EITHER a minimum of 18 months full-time paid experience working in a delivery role at IntoUniversity; OR a minimum of 2 years full-time paid or voluntary experience working with children and young people, either at IntoUniversity, or external organisations, or a combination of both. Please note that we will not take part-time, seasonal or ad-hoc work into account when calculating the length of full-time experience.
- Have the right to work in the UK (please note that as a charity we do not have the capacity to sponsor work visas).
- Be able to apply knowledge of F.E. and H.E. (e.g. UCAS applications) to help young people decide about their futures; and have knowledge of national developments in H.E. and their impact on young people traditionally underrepresented in H.E.
- Have experience of confidently negotiating with a variety of stakeholders, for example: head teachers, funders, universities.
What will my main dutires be?
To lead the staff team at the centre, generating a positive and inclusive working environment and ethos and ensuring that the team are well motivated, are managing their workloads effectively, and are providing a high quality service.
You will initially be involved in the set up of this brand new centre, including developing local school relationships and we anticipate that delivery of the IntoUniversity programmes will begin in the 2024 summer term.
To ensure that the ethos and values of the charity are maintained in the IntoUniversity centre.
To act as the Centre’s Designated Safeguarding Officer (full training and support will be provided to become the Designated Safeguarding Officer). To create and oversee relationships with local education providers.
To oversee the successful delivery of our educational programme at the centre using positive behaviour management and adhering to the IntoUniversity safeguarding policy.

Main purpose of the role:
To support, develop and coordinate a variety of areas of activity within the Fundraising team.
Key responsibilities:

Take a proactive approach in guiding supporters and potential fundraisers on how they can be involved with Retina UK. Offer clear advice on fundraising opportunities and ensure incoming enquiries are directed to relevant activities that align with their interests and needs.
Work collaboratively to maintain an efficient and practical admin system. Arrange, attend and take minutes at fundraising team meetings as and when required

About the Role
Your objective for the first 12 months in post will be to have:
- Supported the Youth Zone to achieve 1,000 visits by young people a week by ensuring volunteers play a key role in service delivery.
- Collaborated with the delivery and operational team to ensure volunteer opportunities are identified.
- Put in place a robust volunteer recruitment pathway.
- Created a ‘culture of volunteering’ and ensured the critical role of volunteer is understood and valued across the whole organisation.
- Supported each member of the operation and delivery team to line manager between 2-4 volunteers each, providing between 6 and 30 hours of volunteering a week.
- Put in place a reward and recognition scheme that celebrates volunteers’ successes.

The Head of Policy & Public Affairs is responsible for leading UK Youth’s influencing work with Westminster, devolved administrations, and local government. They will lead our advocacy for ambitious and actionable policies that will help unlock youth work for all young people. They will ensure that our policy recommendations are informed by the strongest available evidence, meaningful youth involvement, and the expertise of youth workers. The Paul Mellon Centre (PMC) is looking for a qualified and highly experienced Human Resources (HR) Manager who can help us create an inclusive and inspirational workplace. We are looking for someone who is interested in developing and enhancing the career and workplace experience of the people who work for our organisation through their leadership of the HR Team and provision at the PMC. Reporting to the Centre’s Chief Operating Officer, the HR Manager plays a crucial role in our organisation of around forty members of staff. CAFOD, one of the 15 member agencies that make up the Disasters Emergency Committee, is the official aid agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales and stands alongside vulnerable communities across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.
CAFOD is seeking a Governance Manager to temporarily support our Leadership & Governance team. A specialist Arts University based in central London is seeking an IT Support Manager for a full-time permanent role. The organisation is a prestigious arts focused University with around 600 students. They have two sites – one being the main teaching campus near Kings Cross, the other an art gallery with some teaching capacity, on the Strand.

This is a new role at the DEC and developed as a key part of the DEC’s 2024-2029 strategy.
