Communications and Engagement Officer – Maternity Cover

Salary: £34,314 starting salary per annum plus £4,190 Inner London Weighting if based in London per annum.

Refugee Action exists to work with refugees and people seeking asylum who’ve survived some of the world’s worst regimes. We are a national charity with more than 40 years’ experience of empowering people who’ve survived some of the world’s worst regimes to secure the protection and support that they need to live with dignity and respect and build a new life in the UK. About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated Advice Support Worker to join our well-established family advice service based at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). As part of Citizens Advice Camden, this service supports families of seriously ill children, who often face complex issues like housing problems, benefits entitlement, and debt. You'll play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the service through administrative, organisational and communication tasks that enable our Advisers to deliver high quality social welfare advice and casework.​

​The ideal candidate will have strong administrative experience—ideally within the advice or charity sector—along with a working knowledge of issues such as welfare benefits or housing. Excellent IT, organisational and communication skills are essential, as is a sensitive and client-focused approach within a hospital environment. You will need to be able to work both independently and as part of a small supportive team. This hybrid role includes regular on-site presence at GOSH and requires the successful candidate to meet the honorary staff requirements of the hospital, including passing an enhanced DBS check and completing mandatory training.​

What the job involves

We’re on the lookout for a Legacy and In Memory Executive to join our Individual Giving Team here at Prostate Cancer UK. This role focuses on legacy and in-memory giving - including gifts in wills which are some of the most meaningful contributions we receive, helping us fund research that will save and improve lives.

In this role you’ll be part of an exciting time at the charity, joining us as we roll out our new Fundraising Strategy and start developing new products. You’ll be delivering thoughtful, well-timed and engaging communications to a variety of audiences, helping us reach new supporters and deepen relationships with those already connected to us. Your work will play a vital part in raising awareness, encouraging supporters to consider leaving a gift in their Will, and providing meaningful ways to remember loved ones.

Working closely with our Legacy and In Memory Manager, you’ll help manage relationships with external agencies and collaborate with both internal teams and external partners to make sure our plans are delivered smoothly and successfully. It’s a role where your creativity, empathy and organisation will all come into play.

You’ll also be responsible for the operational duties of the Prostate Cancer Memorial Sculpture – a poignant tribute to the dads, grandads, brothers and friends we’ve lost to prostate cancer, and a place for families and communities to reflect, remember and raise awareness.

About Equal Power Equal Voice

The Equal Power Equal Voice (EPEV) programme provides mentoring, training and peer-networking opportunities to ethnic minority people, LGBTQ+ people, disabled people, women and people with any combination of these identities across Wales. This important and unique programme is delivered in a strong and established partnership with Disability Wales, Ethnic Youth Support Team (EYST), Stonewall Cymru and Women’s Equality Network (WEN) Wales.

The EPEV programme aims to ensure more diverse representation in politics and public life by strengthening the knowledge and skills of those who aspire to be there, while learning from and being supported by those who have achieved positions of power, influence and authority in the face of these challenges.

You will build on the success of the previous EPEV programme cycle, which ran between 2021-2024. They will bring enthusiasm and innovation to ensure the next EPEV programme cycle (2025-2028) is efficient and effective and provides the best possible experience to mentees and mentors, paving a direct route to seeing greater diversity in political and public life in Wales.

The EPEV programme is made possible through funding from the Welsh Government and The National Lottery.

This role is part of a collaborative effort, with Programme Co-ordinators being based at each of the partner organisations.

About the Role:

The Programme Co-ordinator will work alongside similar post-holders at Disability Wales, EYST and Stonewall Cymru, and will support WEN’s Programmes Manager to deliver in partnership the Equal Power Equal Voice programme. You will lead on recruiting and supporting the cohort of approximately 25 pairs of mentees and mentors from your organisation. You will support the Programmes Manager in delivering all events within the programme and will attend events online and in person across Wales, and approximately once a year in London.

With a proven track record of delivering projects, you will be dynamic, organised, a good communicator and able to connect people to help them achieve their goals. You will be extremely motivated, able to work on your own initiative and be ready to join a high-performing yet fun and supportive team who are all committed to equality.

Key Objectives of the Role are:

• Working with your cohort of mentees to enable them to access the learning programme, benefit from the peer–to–peer support group and from the relationship with their mentor.

Main Tasks will include, but not be limited to:

Project Organisation and Delivery

• Supporting the Programmes Manager in setting up all systems and lead the recruitment of mentees and mentors from your organisation’s networks

• Being an ambassador for the programme, speaking at events where appropriate
• Liaising with the WEN Communications and Engagement Officer to help publicise EPEV

General Responsibilities and Duties

• Conducting the duties of the job description in accordance with the operational policies of WEN Wales and of the EPEV programme, including but not limited to: the safeguarding policy, diversity policy, social media policy, data protection policies, home working and other policies.

Your purpose

To lead professional development and school improvement programmes facilitating the Voice 21 approach in our Voice 21 Oracy Schools by delivering our high impact learning experiences and materials for teachers and school leaders. To be part of the team, designing and reviewing programme content.

Your responsibilities

Quality programme delivery

• Lead high quality professional development and school improvement programmes in our Pathway programmes and Open Learning for groups of teachers. These may be delivered in person, online or in school. 

• Deliver transformative consultancy support, working with teachers and school leaders to design and implement bespoke improvement plans for their oracy provision, including through in school and online consultancy support, and one-to-one advice.

• Build credibility and purposeful relationships with programme participants, both at programme days and touchpoints, and on an on-going basis to drive impact in our schools.

• Be responsible for participant learning and experience on your programmes, upholding high standards for all elements such as preparation, adapting to participant needs, content and rigour, on-going interactions and support, and participant feedback.

Learning content & programme development

• Proactively share insights and learning from the programmes you deliver, proposing and shaping solutions to enable Voice 21 to continually improve its programme offer.

• Apply and share expertise through varied outputs such as teaching materials, online learning content, resources, written or video outputs. Proactively identify and respond to opportunities or gaps and fulfil briefs or commissions. 

• Contribute to the continual improvement of Voice 21’s programmes, through development and review cycles, based on first-hand learning from our schools, content expertise, programme insights and external research and evidence. 

Team and organisational contribution

• Act as an ambassador for Voice 21’s national oracy expertise, communicating the value and impact of our approach at conferences, events and through publications.

• Embody and communicate oracy teaching and learning expertise within the organisation, acting as a resource for the wider team and making contributions to organisational priorities, projects, campaigns and events, outputs and publications etc. 

• Continually and proactively develop your own and others’ expertise in Voice 21’s approach to a high quality oracy education, and use this to leverage impact for our schools through tangible learning outputs.

• Identify and carry out other tasks commensurate to the level and spirit of the role as required.

Your experience

• You are an excellent teacher (primary or secondary)

• You are passionate about teaching and learning, and the role of talk in learning. You have used talk to support learning in your classroom.

• You have experience leading whole-school change and inspiring teachers to embrace new approaches and ideas.

• You have a knowledge of a range of speaking and listening techniques and contexts for oracy, these could include: debate, dialogic teaching, storytelling, public speaking or communication and language development. 

• You are a strong communicator both when working in a small team and when facilitating learning for large groups of adults. 

• You are flexible, can think on your feet and can bring your own experiences to the work we do.

• You are highly-organised, look for solutions and can prioritise and manage a varied workload. 

• You are enthusiastic, willing to learn and feel you would be energised by our mission. If you do not fully meet all the above criteria, but are happy to work towards developing into the role, we would be happy to consider your application.

• You are willing to travel nationally on a frequent basis (2-3 days a week) during term time; this will include regular overnight stays.

We're recruiting for a new role for someone to lead on People and Culture at Involve.

Involve has grown in terms of both its turnover and staffing headcount in recent years. In 2024, we marked our 20th anniversary and the need for this new role reflects the growth and maturity of the organisation as we build the infrastructure to support the larger, more established organisation of around 30 people.

The People and Culture lead will report to the Director of Finance and Support Services and be responsible for developing our HR policy and practice taking a holistic approach and embedding our values into HR policy, leading consultation with our union on policy development. They will work closely with the management team to support the development and implementation of strategies to foster a positive organisational culture and provide HR generalist support to our team.

The People and Culture lead will be a CIPD qualified HR professional with strong HR generalist experience allied with a participatory approach that supports us in developing an inclusive environment in which everyone is supported to grow, develop and contribute to achieving our mission. 

We work across the UK, with offices in Belfast and London. Many of our staff work from home across the UK or in a hybrid pattern, rather than being based at one of our offices, though we meet up regularly as a team.

A dynamic Disabled People's Organisation, driven by lived experience, seeks a highly skilled Senior Communications Officer to lead impactful campaign communications. You'll need a creative, compelling writing style, and be capable of translating complex information into accessible language for diverse audiences. We're looking for a great comms all-rounder who can manage content across multiple platforms, from social media to press releases, so you can ensure a consistent and powerful brand voice.  This role is also a great opportunity to use and develop your skills around strategic communication.

To succeed in this role, you’ll also need proactive project management skills, combined with strong judgement, essential for coordinating complex communications campaigns, managing timelines, and ensuring seamless execution and alignment with message framing and project goals. You'll be confident in prioritising effectively, and knowing when to flag and escalate issues, ensuring smooth campaign delivery. This 28-hour a week remote role within the UK offers the chance to make a real difference, helping to campaign for Disabled people and their rights.

About the campaign

Our Campaign for Disability Justice, launched in September last year, is a vital initiative to tackle the systemic issues trapping over two million Disabled people in deep poverty. We address the root causes: inefficient social security regardless of employment status, barriers to employment for those capable of work, and a negative public discourse perpetuated by Government. The Campaign calls on Government to collaborate with Disabled People's Organisations to achieve these crucial changes.

Considering current Green Paper proposals and further benefit cuts announced in last month’s budget, our Campaign is has never been more needed.  Join us to help prevent further impoverishment of Disabled people, as we work to oppose these cuts.
