About the Chair of Trustee Role

Role Overview

The Chair of Trustees ensures effective governance and strategic direction for Rebuilding Lives UK. They provide leadership to the board, oversee decision-making, and act as a key ambassador for the charity. The Chair supports the Chief Executive while ensuring accountability and compliance with regulatory requirements. A key responsibility of the Chair is to ensure that all trustees are actively engaged in their roles, fulfilling their responsibilities, and participating in training.

• Lead the board to ensure strong governance, accountability, and strategic leadership.

Mandatory Training Requirement

All trustees, including the Chair, are required to complete trustee governance and safeguarding training within the first three months of their appointment. Additional training will follow as needed.

Terms of Appointment

Voluntary Role

All voluntary roles are subject to satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS check.

This is an unpaid remote position (UK Based); however, reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. 

Time Commitment:

• 10 hours per month, including:
  • Monthly board meetings (held via Zoom).
  • Providing strategic leadership and guidance to the CEO.
  • Annual half-day strategy session and leadership planning.

The Muscle Help Foundation (MHF) is a small multi-award winning, family-centred charity, delivering both in-person and virtual interventions and experiences in the UK - these moments-in-time are called Muscle Dreams, designed specifically for children & young people (8-28yrs) with the muscle wasting disease, Muscular Dystrophy (MD).

REQUIREMENTS + KEY CRITERIA

Commitment to the charity’s values, bags of enthusiasm, an understanding and passion for our work, great comms skills and a real desire to want to make a difference to the lives of our vulnerable community. You may have experience of living with muscular dystrophy, other disabilities or life limiting conditions, but this is not essential.

MAIN BOARD MEETINGS + EXPENSES

Trustee Board meetings take place virtually. They are usually 2hrs. Over and above this time commitment, trustees on average, depending on their role, may give additional time in being directly involved in occasional ad projects – MHF Trustees ‘own’ a ‘bucket’, in other words, an area of responsibility like HR, Fundraising, Safeguarding, Marketing, Finance, Digital, Risk or Campaign Management that allows an individual to bring their skills, experience and talents to the charity. Reasonable expenses will be covered.

Educators and facilitators wanted to help East London Waterworks Park deliver its environmental learning goals.

East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces. 

We are looking for educator and facilitator volunteers to participate in our community-led working group, who are collaborating with schools, universities and youth groups that help the design of the park. 

Examples of projects are: 

• collaborating on nature walk activities for schools
• supporting university students interviewing teachers
• creating lesson plans to co-design the park.

The Learning Circle currently meets monthly on a Wednesday evening at 8pm for an hour on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely.

You should be an experienced teacher, educational consultant, forest school leader, training and development specialist, learning designer, facilitator or any other kind of role creating learning projects, programmes and experiences. Our roles are quite flexible. We hope that people bring radical imagination, peace with nature, and courageous inclusiveness to the role. 

Your support will help young people and learners improve their environmental knowledge of design and research as well as contributing to our community-owned park. This will in turn provide a sense of stewardship over the land once the park is created and student's ideas have been built into the park. 

Creating learning projects with educational institutions will also help our charity with the strategy to buy the land through showing the value of our environmental education programme before we create the park.

Having access to a secure garden or outdoor area can be crucial for providing opportunities to socialise and relax, which can be invaluable for the mental well-being of our residents.

The gardening and growing volunteer will support our accommodation sites in maintaining their outdoor spaces, including:

·Weeding

·Sweeping

·Pruning

·Clearing leaves and large twigs

·Watering plants

·Planting bulbs and tidying up flower beds

We would love for this to be an opportunity to involve our residents and potentially lead a gardening activity with them, equipping them with knowledge and skills to maintain their own green spaces in the future. 

You will need:

• Enjoy working outside in all weathers.

• Role requires some degree of physical work and lifting/manual handling

The Student Publication Association (SPA) is recruiting charity trustees to assist its work in advancing the education of student journalists across the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

As a small, student-led charity, we support more than 330 member publications around the UK and Republic of Ireland, offering advice, training, and recognition at both our regional and national awards.

AMP is seeking motivated and dynamic individuals from age 18 upwards who are passionate about wanting the voices of young people to be heard.

We would particularly like to hear from people with expertise in fundraising and income diversification, marketing and communications, alternative education provision, and advocacy. We would also like to hear from people from under-represented and marginalised groups.

Who are we?

We’re AMP, and we’re a youth music development charity. We champion the transformative potential of music for children and young people. Music has the power to change lives – raising aspirations, enabling personal and social development, enhancing career prospects. We work with trusted partners to deliver high quality music making activities to those in challenging circumstances, including rural isolation and economic deprivation. We are here to strengthen and support the sector through workforce development and the building of strategic partnerships, and we advocate for the wide-ranging benefits of music-making. We’re proud to put youth voice, and young people themselves, at the heart of what we do.

Our story began in 2001, as AMP, with the vision that all young people in North Yorkshire should have the opportunity to actively engage in music, regardless of their circumstances. We’re so proud of all we’ve achieved to date. The world has changed so much since we started our work, and so have we. And that’s why we’ve found our new name, AMP.

Since 2019 we have engaged over 12,000 young people and their families in person, making us one of the biggest music and education charities in the region. And we’ve reached a further 432,000 online!

What does it involve?

You will be expected to attend four meetings a year. This is a voluntary position, but you will have travel reimbursed. Trustees are involved in governance and strategic guidance but not in the delivery of operations. Their role is to ensure the charity is successfully delivering its aims and objectives. AMP will support all new trustees through a process of induction, training and mentoring. You do not need to be based in North Yorkshire, and many of our meetings take place online. You do not need any former trustee experience to commit to this role.

Trustee Duties include:

· Attending meetings four times a year (one every 3 months, usually in March, June, September and December). Meeting last between 1½ and 2 hours. We are flexible in scheduling meeting times, to reflect the availability of trustees. We usually meet online with an annual in-person meeting in York.

· Read meeting papers before meetings.

· Maintain contact with AMP staff, providing your opinion on particular matters as required.

· Participate in appropriate training / learning opportunities offered through AMP

· Attend AMP events and be an advocate for the charity

Job description

We are thrilled to welcome a Video Editor at a pivotal time for our charity. After a challenging period of inactivity due to the impacts of Covid, we are excited to embark on a new chapter, as we are ready to restart our activities in 2025 and to develop our projects and create a positive impact in our community.

This is a unique opportunity for those eager to be part of a project evolving from its early stages to the launching of new initiatives. The volunteer will have ample opportunity to collaborate with us and help shape our videos from the ground up.

We are seeking a talented Video Editor who can create engaging videos for our new upcoming website and fundraising campaigns.

We appreciate volunteers with experience in editing videos for fundraising purposes, but we are open to those who do not necessarily have the experience but wish to learn.

As a volunteer-led charity, it’s essential for us to find someone who understands the importance of being part of our team and engaging in the entire creative process. Therefore, we will prioritise applications from volunteers who wish to commit to a long-term partnership and want to be an integral member of our team.

What do you need to become our Video Editor?

Essential:

· 3+ years professional experience with Video Editing and ability to create engaging and professional videos.

· Creativity and experience in developing effective videos for marketing.

· Experience in developing effective videos for fundraising purposes.

· Experience in developing effective videos for promoting projects and charitable causes.

Desirable

· Have worked with videos for fundraising campaigns in the past.

Location: Fully Remote. But we welcome those who wish to come and visit the farm at least once to understand more about us. Travel expenses covered.

Commitment:

The estimate of time needed is 3 hours a week, but we can be flexible and work with you to find hours that fit ours and your schedule, hours will eventually reduce once most of the branding work is done and the new website is launched - all help is much appreciated!

As a volunteer-led charity, we prioritise volunteers who want to become part of our team of volunteers rather than those looking for a temporary project.
