University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) Charity supports four hospitals (and additional community services) that are operated by University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Since 2010 the Charity has spent over £60 million funding equipment, facilities, research and patient welfare. Every day our work makes a real difference to those visiting and working in our hospitals.

What will you be doing?

The Chair provides leadership to the Board with prime responsibility for ensuring it has agreed priorities, appropriate structures, processes and a productive culture and has Trustees and senior staff who are able to govern well and add value to the Charity.

Trustees are responsible for providing appropriate oversight, governance and leadership to University Hospitals Birmingham Charity in pursuit of its strategies to fulfil its charitable purposes.

The Chair’s main role is to provide clear leadership of the Board, demonstrate an ability to set the Board agenda and lead the other Trustees in playing a full role in the development and determination of the Charity’s strategy.

Regional lead responsible for establishing partnerships with University Islamic Societies (ISocs) and maintaining positive relationships with these sites.

Key tasks

• Actively establish and maintain positive relationships with the ISoc committees and Student Ambassadors to ensure an exceptional onsite experience for students and promote retention of sites
• Be responsible for overseeing all onsite logistics through liaison with the Student Ambassador to ensure that onsite logistics including advertising of the class and other required tasks are taken care of by the ISoc
• Be the point of contact for ISocs: answer questions from the ISoc committees and Student Ambassadors to the best of your ability and engage them on a 1-1 basis, listen to their needs and concerns and addressing these accordingly
• Collect ideas and best-practices from how different ISocs are delivering their class
• Participate in delivering an onboarding webinar for ISocs prior to the start of the academic year

We are seeking a qualified accountant with a keen eye for Finance to join the Board. Now-u is a non-profit website and app, launched in July 2020 with a mission to inform, involve and inspire people to help tackle some of the world's most pressing environmental and social problems related to i) human rights and welfare, ii) protecting the world around us, and iii) preserving our species and the planet.

What we are looking for (team needs)

We are looking for a highly motivated Content Creator to play a leading role in creating all social media content for Now-U. Successful applicants will likely be passionate about all things digital and looking to use their skills to help rapidly grow an audience, build a strong brand and drive engagement with social and environmental causes.

We are looking for someone confident in creating appealing visual assets, drafting compelling copy and scheduling regular posts across social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube and TikTok. Professional experience in social media marketing as well as graphic design, video creation and / or copywriting is likely to be beneficial, but is not required. Familiarity with analytics tools in order to assess the success of posts and iterate future posting to improve engagement is also desirable. 

It will be a hands-on role working in a small volunteer team on a wide range of charitable campaigns and initiatives. Successful applicants will be comfortable working alone and/or in a team on projects, and willing to support the marketing team with a wider set of activities including developing team strategy and identifying new opportunities.

Citizens Advice Esher & District is a well-established local advice charity that is seeking a HR professional to joins its trustee board and help deliver effective people management policies and plans.  If you’re excited to help us have the right team in place to meet the advice needs of our local community in Surrey, we would love to hear from you.

Time commitment

Our Trustees are expected to attend six board meetings each year.  These normally take place on a Monday evening, alternating between 5-7pm and 7pm-9pm, at our office in Esher. There is an option to join most meetings online, although we encourage meeting in person.  Reading preparation for each Board meeting will take around one-two hours.  All Citizens Advice Trustees are required to complete a small number of e-learning courses each year.

You will also be asked to Chair and prepare papers for our Personnel sub-committee which meets six-monthly, and to offer ad-hoc support relevant to your expertise.

We strive for a healthier, more compassionate community where hope can be found, and a reduction in deaths by suicide, one of the leading causes of death worldwide.

We are launching a new Listening Hub in Bristol’s busy shopping centre. This walk-in service will support individuals with mental health issues, their families, and local workers. It complements our Mental Health Responders, enhancing outreach and community support. To run this program, we are looking for a new team of dedicated volunteers that want to support the cause of suicide prevention and raising mental health awareness.

Key Responsibilities

In a Listening Hub setting, the Mental Health and Wellbeing Officer plays a crucial role in providing compassionate and professional support to individuals seeking assistance with mental health challenges. During your shifts, your tasks will be a combination of the following:

• Providing support to those facing mental health challenges
• Allowing any visitors to share their personal experiences and feel supported / listened to
• Lead conversations with an emphasis on active listening and empathy
• Supporting an open, non-judgmental space open to all
• Optional: Facilitating regular community sessions that provide a relaxed and open space for meeting new people and sharing personal experiences. These can be based on any activity (e.g. crafts, sports).
• You will be expected to donate around 3 hours of your time either per week or fortnightly and to attend a Mental Health First Aid and Suicide First Aid training. Your shifts will be arranged to fit around your other commitments.

Many of the standard tasks within the shop involve standing or sitting for periods, handling bags and donations from the public and there may be stairs to climb depending on which shop you are based in. How much time do I need to commit?

We’d need you to give around three hours per week if you can with the possibility to do more if you’d like to. However, we appreciate any time you’d like to give; please let us know this on your application form.

We’re looking for a motivated finance professional to provide financial direction to our local advice charity and help us improve our long-term financial sustainability. If you’re excited to help us grow and strengthen our resilience so that we meet the advice needs of the diverse communities we serve, we would love to hear from you.

The Treasurer is an officer of the Trustee Board and not a paid member of staff.  The purpose of the role is to ensure that the charity’s finances and supporting financial control systems are robust and comply with relevant regulations.

The role works closely with the Chair of the Trustee Board, the Chief Executive and the volunteer Financial Accountant.

The Treasurer is responsible for chairing the Finance sub-committee, including preparing the agenda and arranging for the production of the minutes of each quarterly meeting,

Treasurer main duties and responsibilities

Financial accounts

· Every quarter, review entries on Xero made by volunteer Financial Accountant (

· Review quarterly management accounts prepared by volunteer Financial Accountant before submitting report to the Trustee Board

· Ensure that year-end accounts are prepared to in compliance with SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice) Accounting for Charities and submitted by the deadline to Charity Commission and Companies House, and make arrangements for them to be independently examined as required

Budgets and planning

· Prepare annual budget and obtain Trustee Board sign off each March

· Review and update forecast of annual outturn

Financial control and compliance

· Comply with the charity’s financial policies and procedures

·Liaise with the CEO to prepare costings for any funding bid applications

· Ensure capital expenditure authorisations and limits are followed, and prepare expenditure justifications where appropriate

· Ensure that money received is spend only on the purposes for which it was given and ensure that reports and accounts demonstrating this are submitted to funders

· Submit regular financial reports to national Citizens Advice as required, and meet all financial obligations of the Citizens Advice Membership scheme

Relationship with Trustee Board

· Provide financial advice as required to the Chair and Trustee Board

· Explain, guide and advise the Board on the key assumptions and financial implications of the budget, operational and strategic plans

· Keep the Board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities

· Ensure that all Board members have a clear understanding of the accounts presented at meetings

· Ensure that the organisation has an appropriate reserves policy and a realistic budget that meets the service’s needs

· Provide input to the risk register process

· Present accounts at the Annual General Meeting in an accessible way

· Chair the Finance sub-committee, preparing the agenda and arranging for the production of the minutes for each quarterly meeting

Treasury

· Act as key contact on the charity’s bank accounts

· Transfer money between savings bank accounts to optimise interest income

· Maximise the interest on savings by comparing available interest rates

· Review investments (in conjunction with other trustees)

· Review and update cheque signatory and electronic payment authorisation

· Authorise salaries and PAYE payments to HMRC

Other (annual)

· Review reserves policy

· Prepare salary review (in conjunction with Personnel Committee)

· Review office insurance policy

· Review Gift Aid claim prepared by volunteer Financial Accountant

Our board convenes four times a year, offering an opportunity for strategic discussion and impactful decision-making. While prior experience serving on a board is an advantage, it is not a requirement. We are committed to providing support and training to ensure you feel confident and well-prepared to contribute effectively.

We are particularly interested in candidates with legal expertise who can bring a nuanced understanding of the legal aspects of charity governance. This includes advising on the legal implications of strategic decisions, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, and safeguarding the charity’s interests as we continue to grow and develop our services.

Why am I needed?

Community is at the heart of everything that we do at Tenovus Cancer Care to help those affected by cancer. Our aim is simple – to deliver a vision where fewer people get cancer and those that do receive equal access to excellent treatment. However, we can’t do this without your help. Our shops in local communities are crucial to us raising vital funds. So, we’d like you to volunteer your time and commitment to help us make a difference. We need you to help create exciting displays in our windows and in our shops to help turn clothes into cash.

What will I be doing?

Creating visually inspiring displays in our windows and in our shops under the guidance of our shop management team

Merchandising, displaying and maintaining high standards of presentation in the shop according to promotional activities and seasonal trends

Maintaining high levels of shop standards, presentation and cleanliness

Speaking with customers, making them welcome and answering queries

Promoting awareness of the charity and the services that we provide.

What skills do I need?

Creativity

A strong interest in fashion and retail

It’d be great if you have some knowledge of fashion, labels and trends

A really keen eye for detail

Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team

Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the team and customers.

Many of the standard tasks within the shop involve standing or sitting for periods, handling bags and donations from the public and there may be stairs to climb depending on which shop you are based in. If you have any concerns about this, please speak with the Shop Manager when expressing your interest in volunteering.

How much time do I need to commit?

We’d need you to give around three hours per week if you can with the possibility to do more if you’d like to. However, we appreciate any time you’d like to give; please let us know this on your application form.
