About the role:

Based within Single Homeless Project's (SHP) Islington Complex Needs Accommodation Service, you will work closely with the Regional Services Manager and a multi-disciplinary team to deliver intensive, person-centred support to clients at our Ashley Road project. This is a high-impact role, designed to support individuals with multiple and complex needs, including mental and physical health challenges, substance use, and a history of offending. You will support and empower our clients as they move from crisis towards stability, independence, and meaningful engagement in the community.

As a Project Worker, you will have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of some of the most marginalised people in our society. You will play a vital role in helping clients sustain accommodation, access services, and develop the skills and confidence needed to take control of their lives. You will work in close partnership with external agencies and professionals to deliver coordinated support, while also playing a key part in preventing homelessness and promoting long-term inclusion. The working rota for this post is Monday - Friday, with no weekend shifts. The rota will consist of a mixture of earlies (8am - 3.30pm) & lates (3pm - 10.30pm).

We’re looking for a youth worker to lead our weekly educational youth club programme in Bournemouth. Delivered in partnership with International Care Network (ICN), sessions take place on a weekly basis between 4.30-7.30pm throughout the year including school holidays.

The role is six hours a week (three hours on a Wednesday at Club Class plus three hours a week for planning/prep/meetings).

Main purpose of the role:

The youth worker will plan, deliver and facilitate educational and cultural activities to separated children (16-21 years old) in the context of an interactive youth club held weekly in partnership with the ICN in Bournemouth. Although you will prepare and deliver the materials, you will be supported by our youth support worker and ICN support worker during the actual Club Class session. Plus one support worker from ICN and one staff member from Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole local authority (BCP LA) – usually a personal advisor or social worker.

Main duties:

• Research, plan and devise educational activities/classes for the weekly sessions based on our Club Class framework
• Deliver and facilitate the weekly Club Class with the support of our youth support worker and the ICN support worker.
• Source outside facilitators on occasion (on a voluntary basis) to deliver specialist sessions 
• Ensure sessions are young people-led and participants have an opportunity to input into future Club Class sessions using our participatory feedback mechanism 
• Provide emotional support and guidance to the group (please note this is not a casework role), referring individual young people to their case worker where one-to-one support is required.
• Ensure the highest level of safeguarding for the young people attending with adherence to The Separated Child Foundation’s safeguarding policy
• Work with the Programme Manager to evaluate Club Class with participants to ensure the sessions are appropriate and relevant to their needs, and propose amendments and improvements to the Club Class framework as required
• Gather feedback (anonymised where necessary) from participants to populate social media, support funding bids and include in programme management reporting

Person Specification:

Sutton Foodbank has been helping people in food crisis since 2009, and supported nearly 4000 adults and children in 2024. Sessions are run by our dedicated volunteers who come from local churches; and our dependable warehouse, restocking and transport volunteers always ensure food gets safely to where it is needed.

People visiting the foodbank come from a vast variety of backgrounds but all have faced difficult life experiences. Beyond food, we also want people to access support to improve their situation, so we commision Citizens Advice to come to the foodbank sessions to help people maximise their income and provide advice on topics such as housing, debt and benefits.

And as a Christian project we underpin everything with prayer, and actively offer prayer to our clients too. The genuine care and compassion from our volunteers helps to build trusting relationships so we can more effectively listen, pray and signpost people to other support. 

As our Foodbank Manager, you can use your leadership experience, excellent communication and organisational skills and Christian faith in a way that makes a real difference in people's lives.

About the Role

As a Young People Support Worker, you will work under the direction, guidance and support of a Service Manager and an Assistant Area Director you will be responsible for a caseload of clients as well as share responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of all clients, volunteers and staff in the service. 

In the community-based services, you will ensure that the accommodation is properly maintained and support the client to sustain their tenancy and participate in positive and successful move on. You will ensure that their tenancy is not at risk and that they have the skills and resources to manage and maintain their accommodation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure the safety and wellbeing of clients, adhering to safeguarding, emergency procedures, and health and safety protocols.

• Hold a caseload as key worker, delivering day-to-day and personalised support, including SMART support plans and regular assessments.

• Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to provide holistic support, respecting data protection and partnership protocols.

• Encourage client participation in service decisions, community activities, and development opportunities such as education, training, and employment.

About the Bloom Service

Barnardo's Swansea Bloom Service works directly with care experienced young people to help improve their emotional wellbeing, resilience and self confidence. Our aim is to create a positive space for them to explore their identity, passions, and potential. The support on offer includes  the opportunity to take part in amazing activities, life coaching, befriending and peer mentoring.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join Barnardo's as a Volunteer, Befriending and Peer Mentoring Co-ordinator (Project Worker 2).

The contract is for 25 hours a week to cover the maternity leave of the substantive post holder until 31st March 2025.

Bloom is a growing service offering a unique opportunity for the right person to develop, co-ordinate and deliver our Volunteer, Befriending and Peer Mentoring work using established and innovative approaches. The Co-ordinator will be responsible for recruiting and managing a team of volunteers, befrienders and peer mentors who will help young people to improve their physical and mental well-being by supporting them to access a range of exciting activities, helping them to find new interests and hobbies and engage in healthy activities in the community

You will undertake the role of Volunteer, Befriending and Peer Mentoring Co-ordinator reporting to the Children's Service Manager and acting as line manager to the service's volunteers.

The successful candidate will be required to carry out the following duties (in addition to those on the generic job description):- 

• Continued development and delivery of the Volunteer, Befriending and Peer Mentoring element of the Bloom service.
• Recruit and train volunteers, befrienders and peer mentors
• Effectively match volunteers/befrienders/peer mentors to support young people
• Effectively utilise the Barnardo's specialist volunteer management system (Vol 1)
• Provide ongoing support and supervision of volunteers
• Keep accurate statistical information and assist in producing service performance reports for the organisation and funders.
• Support project engagement events and empower young people to share their voice and ensure that Bloom continues to be a young person led project
• Assist in quality assurance of every aspect of the service
• The service requires flexibility of work as we support young people around their needs.

You will have: 

• Experience of working within a volunteering setting preferably at the level of co-ordinating the service this can be in a employment, education, training or volunteering setting
• Experience of recruiting, inducting and retaining volunteers
• Experience of keeping statistical information and completing performance reports for funders
• The ability to line manage  volunteers
• An understanding of the needs of care experienced/vulnerable young people and an awareness of the factors impacting on their lives

Bloom is made up of three elements all of which work together:

Life Coaching - there is a dedicated life coach

Giving young people the power to unlock their own potential for positive change, by providing them with the tools to build resilience, improve wellbeing and understand themselves better. Coaching empowers young people to think about and move forward positively in their lives, by creating and working towards specific goals through 1:1 sessions with our life coach. 

Volunteer, befriending and peer mentoring - there is a dedicated volunteer coordinator

• Volunteers – to help with activities
• Befriending - members of the local community befriend and provide ongoing assistance to service users are moving to independence
• Peer mentors – care experienced adults who can offer invaluable guidance to care experienced young people by drawing on their own experiences

Activities there are 2 engagement workers 

Giving young people regular opportunities to get together to experience activities not easily accessed by care experienced young people. Led by the expressed wishes of young people they could be experiences such as sports, adventuring, outdoor events, gardening clubs, cooking clubs.
