World Physiotherapy is looking for a volunteer to support the charity's Finance Committee. Finance committee meetings are held quarterly via teleconference and last for between 90 to 120 minutes.

Finance Committee
The finance committee oversees the finances of the registered charity (WCPT), the company WCPT Trading Ltd, and in time the CIO. The Finance Committee, provides reports, advice, and makes recommendations to the Board in accordance with the Committee’s functions. Further information can be found in the committee terms of reference.

Commitment
The commitment required for these roles includes attendance at quarterly finance committee meetings, attendance at annual meetings with auditors, reading papers in advance of meetings, as well as availability from time to time to support the chair and senior management team through correspondence or ad-hoc meetings.

The roles is an unpaid voluntary position and no travel is anticipated.
Specification
The successful candidate will be working to support a passionate and committed group of trustees who are elected from our member organisations around the globe. World Physiotherapy is interested in hearing from candidates who substantially meet the following criteria:

• An accounting qualification and experience of providing financial support and advice, ideally with experience in UK charity finance requirements and knowledge of charity governance. An understanding of operating internationally would also be valuable
• Finance Committee experience (or equivalent) in either the public, charity or private sector
• A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to their duties as a committee member
• Proven interpersonal, communication and people skills including critical listening and the ability to ask probing questions
• Ability to work within a framework of collective decision-making
• Ability to examine evidence and complex documentation and take an independent and unbiased view
• Ability to assess issues relating to audit, risk management, internal and external audit, investment, insurance and general financial management
• A commitment to high standards of governance and probity
• A commitment to the organisation and its objectives and a personal interest in the work of World Physiotherapy
• Ability to respect confidentiality
• A willingness to be available to staff for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis

All Trustees of The Sussex Reptile Centre are required to:

· Ensure that the organisation pursues its stated charitable objects as defined in the Governing Document, establishing a clear vision, set of values and strategy and ensuring that there is a common understanding of these by trustees, staff and associated personnel.

· Ensure that operational plans and budgets support the vision and strategy.

· Ensure that the Charity complies with the Governing Document and any relevant legislation and/or regulations. Such legislation includes:

-Animal Welfare act 2006

-Charities Act 2011

In addition to this, the trustees shall ensure that collaboration with the local authority is sought to obtain any appropriate licensing required under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 including any future changes requiring specific licensing for animal rescue centres.

· Support and provide advice on The Sussex Reptile Rescue Centre ’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.

· Approve operational strategies and policies and monitor and evaluate their implementation.

· Oversee The Sussex Reptile Rescue’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.

· Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.

· Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.

· Review and approve The Sussex Reptile Rescue’s financial statements.

· Provide support and challenge to The Sussex Reptile Rescue’s CEO in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs.

· Keep abreast of changes in The Sussex Reptile Rescue operating environment.

· Contribute to regular reviews of [charity name]’s own governance. Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.

But we also know that having a sense of purpose and belonging can really help with the symptoms and impact that mental health conditions can have on you.

Our work is focused on helping people with a mental health condition who are in work or looking for work. We do this by supporting businesses to improve how they look after people, because we know that by creating inclusive and safe spaces at work we make it possible for people with mental ill health to stay in the workplace which helps keep them well and benefits the businesses too.

By joining our board you will be:

What we’re looking for

We are looking for at least 4 new trustees to join our team. Whatever your skillset, we’d love to hear from you and there are some areas where we need particular help:

· Treasurer: oversee our financial health, provide guidance on building long term financial plans to help us grow and ensure appropriate financial management.

· Marketing and Communications: strategic oversight of our marketing and communications, raising awareness of our work and reaching new audiences through digital strategies and media engagement.

About the role

As a board of trustees we meet remotely every 6 weeks, there may be some activity in between meetings so the estimated total time commitment is 4 hours every 6 weeks.

· Making sure we are compliant with our governing document and the requirements of the Charity Commission, and

· Being an active member of the board to help us make good decisions

• Keep abreast of changes in Emerge Worldwide’s operating environment.

• Contribute to regular reviews of Emerge Worldwide’s own governance. Attend Board meetings and adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.

• Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect Emerge Worldwide’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third-party interests.

• Contribute to the broader promotion of Emerge Worldwide’s objects, aims and reputation by applying your skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.

As a small charity, there will be times when the trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.

Terms of office

• Trustees are appointed for a minimum of 2 years of office

• This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

Time commitment

• Attending quarterly Board meetings annually - currently meetings are held remotely.

• Trustees are encouraged to attend all staff in-person meetings which run 3 times annually plus any relevant training days.
