OVERVIEW

Rising Sun Domestic Violence and Abuse Service (Rising Sun) is an independent charity in Kent working to prevent domestic abuse and improve the lives of survivors and their children suffering from its effects. We have an ambitious vision for a world in which women and children live free from actual or threatened domestic abuse and all forms of violence.

Our team provide a range of services to adults and children who’ve experienced domestic abuse. We understand the impact of domestic abuse on survivors, so we listen to individual needs and respond in a trauma informed way. We provide one-to-one support and deliver therapeutically informed group programmes to help survivors to recognise healthy/unhealthy behaviours in relationships and to understand the impact of domestic abuse. Bringing survivors together validates experiences and enables them to draw strength from one another.

We are looking for a creative and proactive individual who has experience of supporting survivors of domestic abuse. Working with survivors of domestic abuse as an outreach worker, you will play a crucial role in advocacy, risk assessment, safety planning and empowerment.

As part of our passionate and committed team of approximately 50 staff, our aspiration is that you will thrive and develop in this varied role. You will be contributing to the invaluable work of the Rising Sun and making a lasting difference to the lives of those who are impacted by domestic abuse.

JOB PURPOSE

• To provide practical and emotional support to survivors of domestic abuse, including crisis intervention, risk assessment and safety planning.
• To develop individual support plans, which address the risk of harm and offer information, advocacy, advice and signposting to survivors, underpinned by individual risk and need.
• To empower survivors, thereby increasing self- esteem, reducing isolation and helping survivors to keep safe.
• To provide survivors with information relating to their rights and ensuring survivors are empowered to make decisions based on their options.
• To work in collaboration with the adult team and wider Rising Sun team to support other programmes delivered within the organisation.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Service delivery

• Work as part of a team providing high quality support, advice, advocacy and information to survivors of domestic abuse.
• Manage a caseload in accordance with organisational policies and procedures and adhere to confidentiality.
• Work in a needs led way with a specific focus on a trauma informed approach, which recognises domestic abuse and its impact.
• Work holistically with survivors, recognising individual needs, and help survivors to recognise and build on their strengths and abilities to build self-esteem and resilience.
• Offer support face to face or remotely, via phone or video call, depending on the needs of the survivor and current guidance around social distancing.
• Attend regular supervision and appraisals with line-manager.
• Work effectively in partnership with other agencies and refer on appropriately, dependant on need and risk. This may include referral to specialist agencies, to other specialist DVA services or other external processes (for example MARAC).
• Assess risk to individuals on a regular basis using the DASH risk indicator checklist.
• Work with survivors to develop tailored support plans with a focus on reducing the risk of harm, increasing their personal safety (and that of any children) and responding to their individual needs.
• Support survivors to be able to identify and manage the risks to themselves and their children
• Provide information to survivors in relation to their options, including guidance in relation to their housing, legal and welfare rights and advocate on their behalf as required.
• Encourage service users’ participation in service development, continuous improvement and feedback exercised.
• Represent the Rising Sun at relevant community meetings and forums.
• Support Rising Sun’s community services including our One Stop Shop drop in service and group programmes.
• Maintain up to date and accurate records and ensure, reports and evaluations are completed as required.
• Work as part of a team, supporting colleagues and building positive working-relationships with team members.
• Contribute to wider team meetings and discussions to share learning and feed into organisational developments.
• Be willing and available to work some evenings and weekends as required to support wider team activities such as representing Rising Sun at events (time off in lieu can be taken by arrangement with your line manager).

General

• At all times work professionally and to a high standard, setting an example to the wider team and external partners.
• A good knowledge and understanding of using IT programmes such as Word and Excel.
• Complete administrative tasks and ensure paperwork and evaluations are kept up to date.
• Demonstrate a commitment to continued professional development, being responsible for personal learning and keeping up to date on research, relevant legislation, policy and practice, and other literature relevant to the role.
• At all times protect the safety and security of the Rising Sun, service users, staff, volunteers and buildings, and the confidentiality of records and other information.
• Uphold the rights of women, children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse, and proactively assess the gender specific, trauma informed needs and the safety of children and women to ensure that any risks/needs identified are addressed, having full regard to Rising Sun Safeguarding Children policy and Safeguarding Adults policy.
• Be proactive and solution focussed while paying attention to detail.
• Participate in supervision, training and meetings as required.
• Ensure the effective implementation of Rising Sun’s policies and procedures and uphold the core values of the Rising Sun.
• Work across teams and undertake such other duties, appropriate to the grade and nature of the work, as may reasonably be expected.

PERSON SPECIFICATION 

Knowledge and Qualifications

• An accredited VAWG/domestic abuse qualification, e.g. IDVA / DAPA (Desirable).
• Good understanding of the impact of domestic violence and trauma on survivors, children and young people, families and communities. 
• Knowledge of issues affecting survivors, and an understanding of the barriers they may face in accessing support.
• Thorough knowledge of safeguarding practice, procedures and legislation.
• Good understanding of the operation of the agencies working together to support survivors such as social services, police etc.

 Experience

• Experience of working with survivors affected by domestic and sexual abuse.
• Experience of managing own case load, working under pressure and prioritising workload.
• Experience of risk assessment and management, and safety planning.
• Experience of multi-agency partnership work.

Family Inclusion Worker

The Role

To provide targeted and specialist interventions based on the whole family approach to children, young people, parents, carers & families who have been affected by drug or alcohol use. This role will be based between young people and adult services, to support the whole family. 

To deliver a range of high quality direct and indirect services to support the needs of children, young people, parents, carers and families in relation to complex substance use and recovery, through assessments, group work facilitation, recovery planning, case management and one to one intervention. 

Work closely with colleagues across the Haringey Treatment system to ensure identification of parents, children, young people and families for Family Inclusion Work. This includes publicising the service to colleagues, attending team meetings, undertaking joint assessments and joint support work where appropriate.

Ideally candidates will have experience in supporting families, using a whole family’s approach, strong safeguarding knowledge and understanding of substance misuse.

Young People Support Worker

We have a role available for a Young People Support Worker to join Depaul UK and work as part of a services team in Warrington, delivering an assessment, support and move on service to vulnerable clients in supported accommodation.

About the Role

As Young People Support Worker you will work under the direction, guidance and support of a manager/senior worker you will be responsible for a caseload of clients as well as share responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of all clients, volunteers and staff in the service. You will participate in our programme of meaningful activity by running group sessions and activities within the accommodation to support young people’s individual development and social engagement.

In accommodation based services you will ensure that the accommodation is properly maintained and support the client to sustain their tenancy and participate in positive and successful move on.

The Floating Support Worker will specialise in working with women for whom housing and risk of tenancy breakdown is a priority. You will provide specialist housing and domestic abuse support to women aged 18 and over. The accommodation needs of the women you support will require you to advocate and support for each woman efficiently and empathically, whilst liaising with providers and stakeholders to ensure her accommodation needs are met. The role is dynamic and requires the post holder to respond to women with effective crisis intervention, advocacy and support. The post holder will establish positive, proactive, and innovative working relationships with housing services and partner agencies.

About You:

To be successful as the Housing Floating Support Worker, you will need the below experience and skills:

Solid experience of supporting women who have experienced domestic abuse in all its forms, come from a sector with transferrable skills or possess a feminist/VAWG degree and be keen to learn and to train on the job

A good understanding of violence against women and girls with a particular focus on the dynamics of domestic abuse (physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, so-called ‘honour-based violence’, forced marriage, stalking and harassment) and its impact on women, children, families, and communities

Skills and experience in conducting comprehensive assessments of needs and risk for survivors experiencing domestic abuse, including carrying out short risk management and safety planning

Experience in assessing the needs and safety of any children that women using the service may have

An understanding of the criminal justice system and relevant legislation with regard to legal and civil options, housing, benefits, matrimonial and children

A good knowledge of safeguarding practice, procedures, and legislation

Other skills and experience:

Good data collection, monitoring and IT skills

A relevant qualification or training, for example in domestic abuse, criminal justice, law, social work, substance misuse or related area

Flexibility to work as part of Advance’s duty team on a rota basis which will involve completing intake assessments and providing crisis intervention support

Prospectus is pleased to be partnering an outstanding homelessness charity based in Canning Town, whose mission is to provide support to people who find themselves sleeping rough in East London. They do this by providing a safe and welcoming place to stay, and offering support through the provision of personalised support, educational and life skills opportunities. They are now a support worker, to join their Intensive Support Service. 

As a Support Worker, you will work in the ISS, providing high-quality, person-centred support to residents with a background of rough sleeping and a range of medium to high needs. These will include entrenched drug and/or alcohol issues, mental health diagnosis and a range of offending backgrounds. You will be the principal provider of support for these residents in the ISS and will also work alongside other Support Workers. You will be responsible for promoting resident engagement and empowerment through the development of positive relationships with residents, enabling them to take control of their lives and make positive changes. Additionally, you will work closely with residents to create tailored support plans that meet their specific needs and enable them.

Due to the nature of the role, you will have experience in building relationships and supporting vulnerable, disadvantaged, or excluded client groups, as well as dealing with challenging behaviours within a similar setting to the homelessness sector. You will also be able to demonstrate a level of experience and understand the range of approaches appropriate to working with challenging behaviour including current drug /or alcohol use, antisocial behaviour, offending, substance misuse and complex needs, as well as experience of working with clients through a trauma-informed approach and understand statutory compliances and standards such health and safety, equal opportunities and data protection. To be successful, you will be naturally motivated, adaptable and a committed member of the team.

The Role

Social prescribing link workers will work as a key part of the primary care network (PCN) multi-disciplinary team. Social prescribing can help PCNs to strengthen community and personal resilience and reduces health and wellbeing inequalities by addressing the wider determinants of health, such as debt, poor housing and physical inactivity, by increasing people’s active involvement with their local communities. It particularly works for people with long term conditions (including support for mental health), for people who are lonely or isolated, or have complex social needs which affect their wellbeing. 

Responsibilities include:

• Working with direct supervision from the Programme Lead/Senior Link Worker and input from the PCN’s Clinical Lead GP, take referrals from staff in GP practices within the local PCN.

• Provide personalised support to individuals, their families and carers to take control of their health and wellbeing, live independently and improve their health outcomes, as a key member of the PCN multi-disciplinary team. 

• Developing trusting relationships and taking a holistic approach, based on the person’s priorities and co-produce a simple personalised care and support plan to improve health and wellbeing, introducing or reconnecting people to community groups and statutory services. 

• Work collaboratively with all local partners to contribute towards supporting local community groups and organisations, making themselves aware of local resources and “assets” through mapping and then building a relationship with these organisations.  Also sharing intelligence regarding any gaps or problems identified in local provision with commissioners and local authorities.

• Social prescribing link workers will work collaboratively with GP’s and have a role in promoting social prescribing and educating non-clinical and clinical staff within their PCN multi-disciplinary teams on the benefits of social prescribing 

• Raise awareness of other services available within the community and how and when patients can access them. Linking into the work of Neighbourhood Network Schemes, locality Adult Social Care & Community Mental Health Teams. 

About You

As a Social Prescribing Link Worker, you will have a Level 3 qualification in a relevant field (Health & Social Care, Health Trainer, Health Improvement, Community Family Worker, Psychology) or be working towards/willing to work towards.

You will have:

• Demonstrable commitment to professional and personal development

• Experience of working directly in a community based context (including unpaid work)

• Experience of supporting people with a mental health need and or complexities/vulnerabilities

• Experience of delivering one to one support

• Experience of partnership/collaborative working and of building relationships across a variety of organisations

• Knowledge of VCSE and community services in the locality

• Understanding of the wider determinants of health, including social, economic and environmental factors and their impact on communities, individuals, their families and carers

• Understanding of the barriers faced by those living in isolation

• Knowledge of IT systems including ability to use word processing skills, emails, the internet and able to create simple plans and reports

• Ability to complete paperwork, keep records and carry out own administration

Livingstone House is a 24 hour staffed 92 bed mix gender hostel, which provides short term supported housing for single homeless vulnerable people with Low to Medium support needs. Look ahead provides the support function and Riverside provides the housing management and night concierge. The Service provides on average 5 hours of weekly support to customers who reside in the hostel with the aim to provide them with the tools to move on within the community and live independently. On occasions, we may need support within our scattered sites based in Brent.

The Shift pattern of this role consist of Shift pattern 8am -4pm and 1.30pm - 9pm. Over a 7 day rota with 2 days off with weekend working

What you'll do:
? To provide support to peers and management, being flexible and responsive and help bespoke support for each customer's abilities and aspirations
? To implement the principles of personalisation, as part of a local service plan.

About the role 

The Refugee Council supports separated children across England and part of our service is a team of staff based in Dover, working 24/7 to provide a temporary safeguarding service for children arriving there, ensuring that their basic needs are met while they await transfer to the care of a local authority. The unit is reactive to the needs of clients, who may arrive at any time, and staff are expected to cover a variety of shifts.

Hope House provides support for 16 customers over 2 sites. The first site is a 10-bed supported housing unit and the second consists of 6 independent living flats. The supported housing unit has staff present 24 hours 7 days per week (with sleep- ins). Our customers residing in the independent living flats receive floating support during day-time hours.

The team at Hope House is comprised of 1 Contract Manager, 1 Team Leader, 4 Support Workers, 2 Waking Night Support Workers.
