JOB PURPOSE:

CVS Brent is looking to recruit its next Chief Executive Officer to lead the organisation and manage the implementation of programmes that enhance the capacity of voluntary and community organisations in the borough of Brent.

The incoming CEO will play a crucial role in leading CVS Brent through a pivotal transition period with a focus on stabilising the organisation and laying the groundwork for meaningful organisational change. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of community engagement and impact in Brent.

CVS Brent is a dynamic and independent charity dedicated to supporting the diverse and vibrant voluntary sector in Brent. Through a range of services, including expert advice, professional training, and effective advocacy, we enable individuals and organisations in Brent to build the capacity necessary to meet the needs and aspirations of their communities through voluntary action. Located in an inner-city borough with a rich tradition of voluntary activity, we actively promote innovative approaches to working and foster relationships and partnerships between communities, local government, and health services.

This position is available on a pro-rata basis for 4-5 days.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Strategic Leadership and Execution: In collaboration with the Board, the CEO will define CVS Brent's strategic direction, goals, monitor progress, and set targets..
• Provide Visionary Leadership: Lead and support staff to enhance their contributions and ensure effective programme development and delivery.
• Manage Foundation Building and Change: Establish a strong foundation for future service growth. Navigate the organisation through transitions, ensuring stability and resilience.
• Engage with Stakeholders: Align CVS Brent's objectives with those of its stakeholders by collaborating with voluntary and community organisations, local authorities, and other partners to foster meaningful relationships.
• Embrace Innovation: Encourage creative thinking and explore new approaches to address challenges.
• Represent CVS Brent publicly: Represent CVS Brent and nurture effective relationships across local, regional, and national networks. Actively seek opportunities to expand and promote CVS Brent's role and impact.
• Build Capacity: Enhance the capacity of local organisations by designing and delivering effective programs.
• Lead Policy and Advocacy Efforts: Including engagement with Brent Council, NHS regulators, and other decision-makers.

• Generate Income: Cultivate and strengthen relationships with partners, supporters, funders, and potential funders to capitalise on income generation opportunities.
• Manage Finances: Acquire the necessary resources for efficient operation (from both current and new funding avenues). Additionally oversee budgeting and risk management.
• Report to the Board of Trustees: Attend Board meetings and keep the Board informed about CVS Brent's progress, relevant matters, and the charity's mission. Provide timely and relevant information to aid the Board in fulfilling its duties. Alert the Board to any significant risks facing the charity.
• Ensure Robust Oversight: Uphold and implement CVS Brent's policies, procedures, and systems. Strive for operational excellence by adhering to established guidelines and continuously improving processes.
• Stay Informed and Proactive: Continuously monitor and stay updated on current social, economic, political, environmental, and other relevant trends. Use this knowledge to identify strategic development opportunities for CVS Brent and proactively adapt to changing circumstances.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

While no specific qualification is required, evidence of recent continuing professional development in areas such as management, leadership, or organisational culture is desired. Alternatively, equivalent work experience in a related field will be considered.

• Partnership Building: Demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships, particularly with large and complex statutory organisations. Proven success in forming positive relationships with funders, partners, and stakeholders.

The Role

Trusts and other grant-makers are an important source of funding for our charity and the relationships we have with new and existing funders are more important than ever. This is where you come in.

As our Trusts Fundraising Officer, you’ll be an inspiring storyteller whose enthusiasm for our work shines through in your writing. You’ll play a key role in researching new funders, crafting compelling funding applications, and ensuring we meet reporting requirements for existing supporters.

Your work will involve developing impactful case studies and gathering evidence to show the need for our services to help secure sustainable funding. You’ll be supported by our experienced Trusts Fundraising Manager to build lasting relationships with funders. Together, you’ll keep them engaged and informed about the positive impact they’re making on the young people we support.

What We’re Looking For:

• Outstanding communication skills – You can write clearly, persuasively and passionately. You’re confident speaking to others about the charity’s work.

• Writing experience – You have experience writing successful funding applications, proposals, or compelling articles, ideally but not necessarily with a  fundraising focus

• Fundraising experience - You may not have written a grant application before but you should have some paid or voluntary experience in a fundraising capacity.

• Attention to detail – You take pride in your work, have a good eye for detail and a thorough approach.

• Self-motivation and organisation – You’re able to manage your own time and prioritise effectively.

• Passion for the outdoors and youth development – You understand the importance of giving vulnerable young people outdoor experiences and are willing to put on your waterproofs and join in on our activities and camps to witness first-hand the difference the Youth Adventure Trust makes.

• Willingness to learn - if you think you have what it takes but don’t have lots of experience as a Trusts Fundraiser, this role comes with plenty of scope to develop your writing skills and gain experience within a supportive team environment.

• Inject fun into the team through organising team socials, birthday gifts, and work anniversaries

• Assist with the smooth running of day-to-day accounts including, collating and filing Invoices, end of month coding and liaising with our external accounts as and when needed 

• Follow the charity’s financial procedures document when carrying out any finance tasks 

• Process volunteer expenses each month with diligence and accuracy in line with the charity’s expense and safeguarding policies 

Other 

• Keep a stock take of IT equipment for the organisation and support set up for new staff members

• Manage our Internal ticketing system, supporting the team with IT needs by liaising with our external IT provider 

• Coordinate board meetings and sub committees 

• Minute board meetings and subcommittees

• Lead on recruitment admin of new Trustees

Research in Practice works with organisations across the children and adults social care, health and criminal justice sectors, supporting them to develop an evidence-informed approach to their work. Our focus is on using evidence from research, practice and lived experience, to provide resources that improve policy and services, to achieve positive outcomes for people of all ages.

You will liaise with external commissioners and stakeholders to book in delivery dates – this will include coordinating diaries, commissioning Associates, and confirming delivery details for external commissioners and internal staff. You will work with the team on the pro-active set-up and coordination of both small, one-off deliveries as well as larger scale programmes and projects.

Our ideal candidate would have experience working in a busy learning events or administration environment. You will be capable of managing multiple requests at the same time, and confident liaising with both external stakeholders and internal staff. Excellent attention to detail and reporting skills are crucial to the success of this role. You will need to be enthusiastic, self-motivated and used to collaborative working, with excellent communication skills.

The United Kingdom (UK) plays a significant role in global terrestrial and marine conservation efforts. In addition to being a major provider of public and private funding and a vocal actor on issues of international policy, it is a source, transit and destination point for illegally traded wildlife. IFAW has a long record of accomplishment working on prominent issues in the UK and has developed a large, loyal and generous supporter base in the country with positive brand recognition.

Working under the direction of the Director Policy & Advocacy Europe, the Sr. Program Officer will be responsible for the implementation of IFAW’s global programmatic strategies in the UK region. Consolidating and building on previous progress, the focus will be primarily on combatting wildlife crime, engaging relevant national stakeholders across policy, enforcement, civil society, private sector, and academic sectors.

The Sr. Program Officer will work collaboratively with global staff to ensure alignment with IFAW program priorities, leveraging IFAW’s networks and expertise worldwide to achieve success.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter able to deliver under their own initiative while balancing the need to work within an international team, ideally with experience in a government department or agency, or a non-profit organization, preferably within a global structure.

With a strong background in program delivery, policy development and a good understanding of influencing and delivering change within parliamentary and government processes, this candidate will be articulate and politically aware and able to build out effective engagement strategies. With policy-makers, enforcement authorities and other stakeholders. 

The role is permanent and full-time; and will be based in the UK and subject to IFAW’s policies on remote/hybrid work arrangements.

Role and Responsibilities

· Work collaboratively with UK and global staff to deliver IFAW’s global program goals in the UK, with an initial focus on IFAW’s wildlife crime program.

· Develop the strategy and operational plans for policy advocacy, program implementation and research within the framework of IFAW’s global programs and policies, ensuring that budgets, targets, and performance indicators are set and work monitored, evaluated, and reported effectively within the organisation’s reporting mechanisms.

· Proactively identify, assess, and respond to all relevant developments within public policy, capitalizing upon opportunities to push IFAW’s priority policy calls and achieve positive changes in policy and legislation, ensuring IFAWs global policies and approaches to conservation and animal rescue are represented adequately in UK politics and key institutions.

· Build and maintain relationships with policymakers and stakeholders in law enforcement, academia, private sector (where relevant) and civil society organisations.

· Support the IFAW’s fundraising teams, when relevant, with the development of the UKs institutional grant funding portfolios and major giving opportunities, including developing pitches and undertaking face-to-face meetings with potential supporters.

· Work with the UK communications team to support media strategies around IFAW’s programmatic work, acting as a media spokesperson where appropriate.

· Manage budgets relating to programmatic activities.

· Ensure effective internal communication on UK program implementation and successes.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

· At least 5 years of relevant experience, in areas such as nonprofit management, wildlife conservation, policy development and advocacy, project and financial management, stakeholder engagement.

· Demonstrated experience of successful political engagement on difficult issues, with a track record of skillfully navigating parliamentary structures and government decision-making to achieve political or governmental support.

· Strong network of political and governmental contacts and knowledge of policy and legislation development within the UK.

· Good knowledge of what wildlife crime entails, and who the key actors are that aim to combat wildlife crime, is highly desired. Specific expertise in wildlife cyber-enabled crime a bonus. Strong knowledge of species identification and CITES are a bonus as is experience in issues around transparency and tackling corruption.

· Proven track record of program delivery, working within dispersed and multidisciplinary teams. Experience of working in a global organisation, within a matrix model is preferable. Experience of commissioning research or working with academic institutions a plus.

· A resourceful problem-solver, with strong critical thinking skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment, prioritize tasks, and work well under pressure.

· Proven ability to work effectively through networks and coalitions to achieve change and to communicate constructively with partners and funders and fulfill their reporting requirements.

· Culturally sensitive, proven record of accomplishment of working with diverse, multi-cultural teams. Effective communication skills, including listening skills.

· Experience of public speaking to reach a diverse range of audiences and/or being a media spokesperson,
