Job description

Ref: SFW-241

Are you an influential, dynamic and proactive individual with a proven record of providing effective supervision to a lead of staff and/or volunteers?   Do you have strong experience of engaging positively with vulnerable young people or other vulnerable groups and have a sound understanding of relevant policies and legislation?

If so, join St Giles as a Senior Floating Support Worker working on our new Lambeth project, which will provide vital support to young people and their families where there has been a family breakdown, and the young person is at risk of becoming homeless, with the ultimate goal of safely enabling the young person to stay or return home.

About St Giles Trust
An ambitious, well-established charity that helps people facing adversity to find jobs, homes and the right support they need.  Central to our ethos is our belief that people with first-hand experience of successfully overcoming issues such as an offending background, homelessness, addictions and gang involvement, hold the key to positive change in others.

About this key role
Our successful candidate will lead by example and act as both a positive role model to the team of caseworkers and as its day-to-day expert.  Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will ensure, on a day-to-day basis, that all monitoring information and evidence is being recorded and collated in line with agreed processes and procedures and that the team can work effectively, including identifying training opportunities and peer-supervision.

We will rely on you to provide support, advice and advocacy for young people, and their families, regarding accommodation, to produce support and risk management plans based on assessments and to deliver a holistic support service, working solo or with colleagues as the situation dictates; providing practical help such as social and housing support, ETE options, benefits work, debt advice, liaising with utilities, and cleaning.  Closing cases efficiently and positively, including identifying a referral route for young people and their families when required is also a key aspect of the role.

What we are looking for

  • Proven record of supporting Young People with Housing support and Tenancy Sustainment
  • Experience of using support plans to enable young people to successfully access and sustain accommodation and support services
  • Substantial experience of providing support, advice and advocacy and communicating effectively, the needs of young people to other professionals
  • The ability to work with people who have multiple and complex needs
  • A relevant qualification to a good standard or be working towards one
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • A flexible, collaborative and professional approach to your work.

As an organisation that works with children and adults at risk we are committed to safeguarding, protecting and promoting the safety of our clients and successful applicants will require an Enhanced Child and Adult with Child Barred DBS Check.

We actively encourage people with personal experience of the criminal justice system or lived experience of the issues facing this client group to apply for this role.

In return, you can expect a competitive salary, generous leave allowance, staff pension, flexible working, a mentoring programme, an advice and counselling service, clinical therapist sessions, life insurance (4 x annual salary), duvet days, season ticket loan, employee perks programme, eye care voucher and much more.

We are an equity and inclusion confident employer. We welcome all applications and we particularly encourage applications from people of the global majority (black, brown, multi- heritage) and those who identify as disabled, neuroexpansive, neurodiverse, with any protected characteristics and/or social barriers or challenges. We value the empowering and informative impact that all lived experiences and diversity of thought can offer the organisation.

St Giles will guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria set out in the Job Description for the vacancy.
