The Treasurer will support the Board to oversee the financial matters of the charity in line with good practice, the
Constitution and legal requirements, and report to the Board at regular intervals about the financial position of the charity.
The Treasurer will ensure that effective financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place and are appropriate
for the charity. (Despite this all trustees are jointly and severally responsible for the administration of the charity).
Main responsibilities:
- To support the Board to oversee and to ensure appropriate presentation of budgets, accounts, management accounts and financial statements.
- To ensure appropriate presentation of accounts and records, ensuring that financial resources are spent in accordance with the charity’s policies, good governance, legal and regulatory requirements.
Main duties:
- Liaising, where applicable with the CEO (or other appropriate member of staff).
- Supporting the Board to monitor the financial viability of the charity.
- Creating in conjunction with relevant senior staff sound financial instruments for the control of charity assets.
- Ensuring that staff create sound financial instruments for the control of charity assets.
- Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s Strategic Plan.
- Ensuring that the annual accounts are compliant with the current charities’ SORP.
- Ensuring close working relationships with the internal audit team and Committees of the Board.
- Ensuring that sound financial management is maintained and ensuring expenditure is in line with the charity’s objects.
- Acting as a counter signatory on charity cheques and any applications and receipts of funding (if necessary or mandated).

Why am I needed?
Community is at the heart of everything that we do at Tenovus Cancer Care to help those affected by cancer. Our aim is simple – to deliver a vision where fewer people get cancer and those that do receive equal access to excellent treatment. However, we can’t do this without your help. Our shops in local communities are crucial to us raising vital funds. So, we’d like you to volunteer your time and commitment to help us make a difference. We need you to help be the friendly face that looks after our customers by greeting them, assisting them and processing their items through the till.
What will I be doing?
Speaking with customers, making them welcome and answering questions
Serving customers at the till
Accepting donations from the public
Putting goods on display in the shop
Maintaining high levels of shop standards, presentation and cleanliness
Generating add-on sales and Gift Aid conversion through high levels of customer service
Completing Gift Aid shop paperwork
Supporting the Shop Manager in carrying out shop security procedures
Promoting awareness of the charity and the services that we provide
What skills do I need?
Strong customer service skills
A really keen eye for detail
Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team
Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the team and customers.
How much time do I need to commit?
We’d need you to give around 3-4 hours per week if you can with the possibility to do more if you’d like to. We would particularly appreciate any assistance on the following Days/times of day:
-Friday PM
-Saturday AM & PM

Before starting with Tenovus Cancer Care, we ask that you visit the Shop Management team in the shop so we can both see how the role may suit you.
Following that the Shop Manager and team will be on hand to advise and help you select products you can use.

Horizon School is a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) that provides short-term placements for children who face significant challenges in their mainstream schools. These challenges may include behavioural issues, social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, or being at risk of permanent exclusion.

Volunteer Bike Mechanic
Do you have a passion for bikes? Would you like to use your bike maintenance skills to make a positive change in your community?
We’re looking for people with proficient bike maintenance skills to volunteer on our Bikes Beyond Bars programme.
About this role
From repairing a wide range of donated bikes to supporting people after release, we have an exciting variety of roles in our public-facing workshops (Hubs) and prison workshops.
Depending on your availability, skills, and interests, you may feel you can cover one or multiple areas.
Prison-based volunteers:
We need competent mechanics to support the men in our prison workshop as they gain the skills to refurbish bikes. You’ll be working alongside Life Cycle’s Prison Bike Mechanic Tutors at HMP Bristol or HMP Fosse Way.
Hub volunteers:
We’re looking for people with proficient bike mechanic skills to help out in our public-facing bike workshops.
Duties might include: stripping bikes for spare parts and/or scrap, refurbishing bikes ready for sale, supporting staff to sell bikes to members of the public, helping us with our eBay account and generally mucking in to make the project work. You’ll be working on a wide range of bikes.
Supporting people after release:
We also have opportunities for volunteers to work alongside people who have been released from prison, supporting them to fix bikes.
You’ll get the chance to develop your skills, by working on a wide variety of bikes with our friendly team. You’ll also play a key part in helping us achieve our mission; to help people turn their lives around through cycling.
About Life Cycle
Life Cycle is a charity that works with people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds at every stage of their cycling journey, from learning to ride, to building a career in the cycle industry.
In this role, you’ll be working on our Bikes Beyond Bars programme, Life Cycle’s innovative bike recycling project based at HMP Bristol and HMP Fosse Way. Unwanted bicycles are taken to the prisons, where the men learn how to strip down, clean and refit them, giving them a new lease of life.
The bikes are taken to our community Hubs in Bristol or Derby where they are quality assured ready for sale by Life Cycle’s mechanics and our team of volunteers. Anyone can buy a bike, however many go to local people on low incomes, enabling them to get a bike and start cycling.

You will support by offering a listening ear and will offer individuals tailored mental health support, alongside our team of trained workers. We are looking for a volunteer to facilitate a Men’s group. The group provides a safe, welcoming place for people to meet, share experiences and support each other’s growth.
What you will be doing
- Facilitate discussions
- Create a supportive environment for men to connect, share experiences, and empower each other
- Prepare hot drinks and snacks
- To negotiate/facilitate conflicts or disagreements that may arise during group meetings.
The skills you need
- Ability to create and maintain a safe environment where participants’ thoughts and feelings are valued, and group members are treated with fairness, equity and respect
- Experience of facilitating groups.
- Strong listening and communication skills

We deliver services across London as well as campaign and advocate nationally on the issues that affect the people we work with.
Why am I needed?
Community is at the heart of everything that we do at Tenovus Cancer Care to help those affected by cancer. Our aim is simple – to deliver a vision where fewer people get cancer and those that do receive equal access to excellent treatment. However, we can’t do this without your help. Our shops in local communities are crucial to us raising vital funds. So, we’d like you to volunteer your time and commitment to help us make a difference. We need you to help be the friendly face that looks after our customers by greeting them, assisting them and processing their items through the till.
What will I be doing?
Speaking with customers, making them welcome and answering questions
Serving customers at the till
Accepting donations from the public
Putting goods on display in the shop
Maintaining high levels of shop standards, presentation and cleanliness
Generating add-on sales and Gift Aid conversion through high levels of customer service
Completing Gift Aid shop paperwork
Supporting the Shop Manager in carrying out shop security procedures
Promoting awareness of the charity and the services that we provide
What skills do I need?
Strong customer service skills
A really keen eye for detail
Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team
Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the team and customers.
How much time do I need to commit?
We’d need you to give around three hours per week if you can with the possibility to do more if you’d like to. However, we appreciate any time you’d like to give; please let us know this on your application form.
What support will I be given?
Before starting with Tenovus Cancer Care, we ask that you visit the Shop Management team in the shop so we can both see how the role may suit you.
Following that the Shop Manager and team will be on hand to advise and help you select products you can use.
