Parkinson’s changes lives. From the day of diagnosis, people with Parkinson’s and their loved ones need to know we’re by their side. If you're enthusiastic about making activities available to people affected by Parkinson's then this role is for you!

Activity groups are run by volunteers and offer friendship and support in the form of activities for local people affected by Parkinson's. In Worcestershire, we offer a range of activities to give people affected by Parkinson's a more flexible opportunity of taking part in things that will help them feel in control.

We are looking for someone who is confident with using a range of social media platforms to help us to reach more people in the local community who could benefit from our activities. We are always trying to do more and your help could support us to find new volunteers , too!

You'll have a chance to use and develop your administrative, leadership and communication skills, supported by local staff and other volunteers, to showcase our programme of activities appropriately. The role is flexible and can be adapted to fit around your commitments.

The International Humanity Foundation (IHF) is a 501(c)(3) international non-profit organization founded in 2001. We provide education and safe Children's Homes to impoverished children in Indonesia, Kenya, and Thailand through our five IHF Centers.

Volunteer Role

We are looking for dedicated volunteers to join our team at the IHF Kenya Center in Nakuru City. Volunteers will gain invaluable experience in international team leadership, coordination of center activities, and engagement with the local community.

Responsibilities

• Participate in rotational assignments in the core components of the International Humanity Foundation, including:

  • Center operations

  • Legalities

  • Community development

  • Finance

  • Fundraising

  • Media and communications

  • And more

• Assist in coordinating center activities

• Report to the CEO and Center Directors

 Role: GLD Management Volunteer (Part-Time)

Responsibilities:

- Oversee the implementation and progress of the GLD program.

- Ensure that volunteers and participants receive the correct training materials and MOUs.

- Monitor the signing and submission of MOUs by all participants.

- Maintain accurate records of participant progress and compliance.

- Coordinate with the HR and training teams to address any issues or improvements.

- Provide regular updates and reports on the status of the GLD program.

Requirements:

- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

- Experience in leadership development or training programs is a plus.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

- Commitment to IHF’s mission and values.

- Ability to dedicate a few hours per week to this volunteer role.

We are looking for volunteers who have had a relevantly positive experience or perception of mental health services and be far enough into their mental health journey. They need to be open to sharing their experiences while understanding and upholding their own boundaries. They need to be able to empathise and actively listen. To be able to ask for support and guidance when needed. Your role will be to offer practical, social and emotional support in the form of a mentor role. We are looking for people with good communication, interpersonal skills, friendly and approachable. As well as a willing to learn and basic computer literacy skills as you will need to log your contact with the mentee and any outcomes on our database.

Overview of Onside and Community Mental Health project 

ONSIDE is an independent charity promoting the rights and interests of people facing disadvantage. We believe that everyone is entitled to fair, equal treatment and opportunity. Our skilled staff and volunteers make a real difference to the lives of over 11,000 people a year across Worcestershire and Herefordshire. 

Community Mental Health (CMH) – CMH is part of the transformation of neighbourhood community mental health services in Worcestershire, Onside is working alongside Worcestershire Association of Carers and Springfield MIND to provide a range of support designed to address the social and practical needs of people living with mental ill health. 

About the Youth Team role

​Youth Team Volunteers work with young people from a wide breadth of backgrounds, ensuring they really feel part of the St John family. Volunteers will help young people develop their confidence, teamwork skills, self-discipline, and generally encourage them to strive to be the best they can be. 

You’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time. 

Getting started

You will usually be able to start volunteering very quickly, joining your new youth unit, meeting the young people and your colleagues and beginning to learn on the job. However please be aware you will have some online training to do, and you will need to engage with classroom training opportunities when available. There is also optional training for those who wish to pursue higher youth team qualifications.

Pursuing the role

We do not have a fixed closing date, but we may pause recruitment if we become oversubscribed - so if you want to pursue this, please do not delay!

If you are not already a St John Ambulance volunteer, after getting some brief details we will first invite you to an interview with our Welcome Team.

When pursuing this role, we will check you meet the minimum criteria and then invite you to a Youth Team interview, after which we'll be able to tell you if you've been accepted for this role.

Outline of the Referrals Networker role

If you thrive on networking and making new connections, this vital and interesting role offers the opportunity to create and develop relationships with local agencies, such as Job Centres, social services and many others who may be able to refer potential Readers to the group. The longevity of our local groups is down to securing a steady stream of Reader referrals, so you will play an instrumental part in making sure your group thrives.

How we will support you

You will be provided with the Management Team Handbook, training/induction, policies and guidance specifically needed for this role, including access to support from a Read Easy UK Regional Adviser, via your Team Leader. You will also be invited to Read Easy UK’s regional forums and annual conference which give volunteers an opportunity for networking with those from other groups.

What you will be doing

● Liaising with your group to establish which organisations have already been contacted, so that you can build on that initial work.

● Managing the relationship between the referral agencies and the group.

● Seeking out new referral agencies as the group grows in capacity.

● Familiarising yourself with the Publicity Organiser’s resources available to you.

● Creating a record of organisations and agencies who are likely to come into contact with those who don’t read and the dates you are in touch with them.

● Contacting these organisations regularly to provide information about what your group offers and identify how they can best inform their personnel to make referrals.

● Keeping your local group informed about your activity and identifying how many of your© Read Easy UK 2 June 2023 contacts refer new Readers.

● Attending Management Team meetings, typically every 6-8 weeks.

The skills you will need

● Confidence to promote the work of Read Easy and how it can support local people who would like to improve their reading skills.

● Ability to develop strong working relationships with local referral agencies and to manage expectations.

● Good communication and people skills, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.

● Reasonable confidence in using IT.

Outline of the Fundraiser role

You will be seeking funding from local organisations that are interested in investing directly into their local communities. The average cost of running an average sized Read Easy group, is approximately £3,500 a year. Your role is vital to your local group as you will be able to access local funds that Read Easy UK is not able to apply for as a national charity

How we will support you

You will be provided with the Management Team Handbook, policies, training/induction, guidance and resources specifically needed for this role, including access to support from a Read Easy UK Regional Adviser, via your Team Leader. ● Attending Management Team meetings, typically every 6-8 weeks.

● Knowledge and previous experience of fundraising is desirable, though not essential.

● A willingness to seek out potential sources of funding.

Chair of the Global Communities Sub-Committee

About the role

The Global Communities Sub-Committee is charged with responsibility to keep in constant review the mission and ministry of the Global Communities work across the British Connexion. The Global Communities Sub-Committee will work with relevant Connexional team members in developing new ways of working across the Connexion and advising the missions committee on polices and recommend specific learning points from these Communities that could enrich the wider mission and ministry of the Methodist Church in Britain. The Global Communities Sub-Committee will report annually to the Missions Committee.

About You

We are looking for an experienced, committed person who has transferable skills, this individual will:

• Be a member in good standing of the Methodist Church in Britain
• Have previous experience served as a Chair Committees at Local, District or Connexional Level
• Have an awareness of the variety of contexts that exist within the Methodist Church in Great Britain and Cross Cultural Ministry
• Have a good knowledge of the organisational arrangements of the Methodist Church.
• Have the ability to think strategically and connect vision, aims and strategies through theological reflection.
• Be a leader who is able to show humility, offer direction and able to exercise sound judgement in working with others in the Methodist Church in Britain and within the Global Communities. 
• Ability to work as part of a diverse team
