Across the UK, our 270 local groups play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.

We are looking to recruit a Fundraising Volunteer for the Monmouthshire Newport and TorfaenGroup. As our Fundraising Volunteer you’ll support your Fundraising Group Coordinator to organise local fundraising activities and events throughout the year.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your organisation, communication and team working skills. Most importantly you’ll inspire your local community to raise funds that help make sure no one has to face MS alone.

Time Commitment

We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

About you

You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email. You’ll be able to apply disability, equality and inclusion practices and understand and apply our risk management system. Ideally you’ll understand the local area and organisations that provide local services.

You will be reliable and easy to contact and you need to live in or near the area the group to carry out this role.

Over past decades, enormous advances have been made in our understanding of MS. Research has got us to a critical point, and we can see a future where nobody needs to worry about their MS getting worse. Our Stop MS Appeal needs to raise £100 million to find treatments for everyone with MS.

Our Stop MS Champions help us reach more people and inspire them to get involved in our Stop MS Appeal by encouraging raising funds and awareness by delivering presentations, attending events and identifying new audiences to speak to. They inspire people to engage with and influence fundraisers and groups, enthuse people and make sure our community’s voice is heard.

As our Lead Stop MS Champion, you’ll motivate your team of Stop MS Champions to help reach more people and inspire them to get involved in our Stop MS Appeal.

By using your ability to motivate and support, you will oversee and lead a team of 5-10 Stop MS Champion volunteers, encouraging them to engage the people they know to raise funds and awareness, and provide reliable information and guidance.

You’ll also network to engage with and influence fundraisers and community groups, enthusing people by delivering presentations at events and finding new audiences to speak to. In this role, as well as developing your leadership, networking, influencing, communication, organisation and presentation skills, you’ll have a chance to be part of something amazing – you could help us stop MS.

Barbara Bus North Wales is a Satellite Branch of The Barbara Bus Fund.  Started in 2009 BBNW operates 4 wheelchair accessible vehicles from bases around North Wales and on Anglesey.  Vehicles are available for loan by wheelchair users who are unable to transfer, and can be used by friends and family who have completed the registration process.

BBNW is recruiting a part-time Coordinator on a voluntary basis.  The role will be based from the candidate's home.

Role title: 

Volunteer Classroom Assistant (Online) – English, Maths, Science  

Where: 

Online (Zoom) / Nova New Opportunities, 2 Thorpe Close, W10 5XL

When: 

Immediately, minimum commitment of 3 months. 

Support 1-2 classes a week (45 minutes per class). 

English classes are currently held on Mondays and Wednesday between 16:30 and 19:15. 

Maths and Science classes are currently held on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 16:15 and 19:45.

Purpose of role: 

Support the Nova Family Programme tutors in facilitating online home school sessions.

Role Description: 

This role will be to act as a teaching assistant to tutors delivering online English, maths and science classes (for young people at Key Stage 2 and 3). With the disruption of Covid-19, many families have been thrown into the unknown world of home schooling – made even more challenging when your own education isn’t up to scratch or English is your second language. We are delivering a free programme of online home school support to those who have been most negatively impacted by being out of school. Now that Schools have reopened, we will be continuing these sessions to ensure that learners do not fall behind as Schools focus on catching up on lost learning. The aim is to support children who may be falling behind with their studies and mitigating as far as possible the widening attainment gap. 

You will:

Volunteer role - Cat Fosterer

Where you will be based - Home

Why we want you:

We are the RSPCA and it's our vision to live in a world where all animals are respected and treated with compassion. Our volunteers are incredible, they play an essential role in helping us carry out our important animal welfare work every day.

Our fosterers play a vital role by providing a temporary home for animals that are in the care of the RSPCA, either during rehabilitation or whilst they are waiting for a suitable permanent home to be found.

You could be fostering an animal for just a few weeks, or it could be a longer-term placement for several months or more.

What you will be doing:

• Providing care and suitable housing in a safe environment for cats while they are in foster care in accordance with Society policies and guidelines
• Feeding, watering, providing enrichment and grooming cats (as appropriate)
• Keeping accurate records of expenditure on fostered animals, via receipts and completed expense forms
• Completing records/daily observations in relation to behaviour and health and liaising with your Foster Coordinator when needed
• For cats ready for rehoming: raising awareness about animals in your care with the hope of rehoming them (including sharing images and videos with your local contact/team)
• For cats' subject to an RSPCA case: using discretion (where needed) if the animal has specific needs or reasons for being in your care
• Offering a separate room to keep the cat/s in and your family/household must be fully supportive (and checked/confirmed that there are no cat allergies within the household)
• Transporting your foster cat for appointments, vet consultations, etc

The skills you need:

• Volunteers must be aged 18 or over
• Previous experience of fostering would be beneficial, and experience caring for cats is essential
• If you have existing cats, it is preferred that they be spayed/neutered and vaccinated (unless there are medical reasons why they can't be), but this can be discussed on a case by case basis
• If in rented accommodation, permission from the landlord must be obtained

Disclaimer:

Our voluntary roles are subject to an informal interview and introductory period. Before you can start volunteering you’ll need to complete our suite of eLearn training including a simple online Health & Safety assessment.

Some cats simply don’t respond well to cattery life becoming stressed that affects their health and wellbeing, whereas they thrive in a quiet loving foster home. Kittens, with and without their mums, often need foster homes, until they are weaned and old enough for permanent adoption. Some cats looking for foster homes are subjects of an ongoing criminal investigation, so are in our care whilst the case progresses. With these cats we will not know how long the case will take to resolve and, occasionally, animals may have to be returned to their owner, in accordance with a court ruling.

As a cat fosterer you will play a vital role in looking after the cats in our care until their case is resolved or they find a new home. You'll be providing all the daily care for cats/kittens in your own home, ensuring a safe environment that will cater for their individual (sometimes complex) needs. RSPCA staff will match cats/kittens with foster homes, and will give you all the information and support that you need for each fostered animal. The time commitment for each foster placement can vary from a couple of weeks to many months, with support provided to accommodate holidays and emergencies.

This is a great opportunity to make a real difference to the welfare of cats and kittens in our care.

What is required:

• Be able to transport the cat/kittens to vet appointments and the RSPCA establishment as required.
• Have time to spend with them or be around them.
• A spare room/space at home for fostering a cat is ideal, although not essential (they will not be allowed outside of your home environment, so will need a specific space)
• Have lots of love, time and patience to give the animal whilst they are with you.

If your application is successful, you'll be asked to record and upload a short video, or take some photos of your home environment to accompany your volunteer profile. A home visit may also be required prior to and/or during your time fostering. You’ll get online access to all the necessary training for your role, and we ask you to keep this up to date. You will also receive training from the RSPCA establishment that your foster animal is from, and they will provide you with a point of contact and ongoing support, training and advice. We have a suite of wellbeing resources available and can make reasonable role adjustments to support you in your volunteering.

Volunteer Bid Writer – Children With Voices

Children of Voices is a hugely respected charitable organisation helping to improve the lives of young people and their families through genuine care, love, and support.  

We are currently seeking a volunteer PR & Marketing Manager. This role is ideal for an individual with previous experience in a PR/Marketing role looking to work within the charity sector. 

Responsibilities typically include: 

Writing and editing social media content, press releases, CWV guidelines, leaflets, speeches, newsletters and website content 

Utilising social media to maintain and manage the CWV image 

Representing CWV at events/presentations/meetings 

Owning and managing communications related to CWV’s online and offline presence 

Developing good working relationships with the media

overseeing and approving all social media content produced by social media team 

 The treasurer has responsibility for the financial affairs of the charity and works closely with the board and the CEO to safeguard Children with Voices’ finances.

The treasurer will have:

·General financial oversight.

·Be responsible for financial planning and budgeting. 

·Reporting as required to all statutory bodies, the board of trustees, the CEO and operational managers of the charity.

·Give financial advice to the trustees.

·Ensure that the charity functions within the legal and regulatory framework of the sector and in line with the governing      document.

·Arrange the compilation and agreement of the trustees’ annual review and the annual report of accounts.

While work may be delegated to a subcommittee or paid staff, the treasurer will exercise a supervisory role to ensure that all the financial responsibilities are met.

What is the time commitment?

• The charity holds four meetings per year (Including the AGM), with each meeting lasting around 2 hours.There will be a mix of in-person and online meetings.

• In addition, Panellists need to set aside a minimum of 1 hours reading time before each meeting.

• Depending upon agreed actions, Panellists may be asked to dedicate some time to activities within the community, or for the charity outside of the meetings.

• Should exceptional circumstances arise, there may be a need for additional meetings, but this will be a rare occurrence.

• A chair and vice-chair will be elected by the members every 3 years and holders may serve a maximum of 6 years in total in either role.

What training will you be given?

You will be given a basic induction to the Charity and some basic compliance training to allow you to undertake your role.

Can you spare a few hours a week to support members of the Colostomy UK Facebook Support group?

We are looking for volunteers who can help respond to queries from group members on our closed Facebook group during the evenings (Mon – Fri, 5 - 9pm) and at weekends (Sat & Sun, 9am - 9pm).

Members of the support group are generally very positive, encouraging and kind to each other. Generally, members want to help each other, and the group has a real sense of community. The group is for anyone with a stoma or who has genuine interest in supporting someone with a stoma. 

What will you do?

You will be logged in and respond to posts as Colostomy UK. We ask that you look at the group approximately once an hour during your shift and respond to posts as and when required. This may involve giving advice (never medical advice) or signposting back to our website.

You don’t need to respond immediately if you are unsure, however we do ask that you have a basic understanding of the group guidelines and alert the office team to any concerns. We ask that you delete any posts without delay that are obviously against the rules (we’ll tell you what those are during the training).

We have a weekly rota, and you can sign up for the time slots that work best for you. Shifts can be scheduled for the same day and time each week, or vary, as suits you.

How will we support you?

You will complete two hours of comprehensive training before getting started, so you are fully aware of what you need to do and when.

We’ll buddy you with an established volunteer who can support you in the initial few weeks.

You will be part of our WhatsApp group which includes other volunteers and the office team, so if you are ever unsure on how to help someone, others can help. Members of the WhatsApp group are happy to be contacted out of hours so very available if needed. 

What qualities and skills will you need?

• Great if you are an ostomate but you don’t have to be.
• Good writing skills and able to respond to messages in a timely manner via your device or PC.
• Correspond in a supportive and person specific manner with members of the group.
• Empathy with and enthusiasm for helping people.
• Good understanding of our charity and the support we offer.
