WE NEED YOU!

We are on the look out for volunteers with passion and dedication who can committ to a few hours per week or month that will really help us change young peoples lives. We are looking to fill the following key crucial volunteer roles:

• Project Manager: To oversee the planning and execution of our programmes.

• Volunteer Coordinator: To recruit, train, and manage our volunteers.

• Fundraising Coordinator: To develop and implement fundraising strategies and help us raise funds.

• Marketing and Communications Specialist: To handle social media, public relations, and outreach for us.

• Programme Facilitators: To lead and deliver the various programmes that we will offer.

• Mentors: To provide guidance and support to the young participants who join us.

• Health and Wellness Coordinator: To develop and manage health-related programmes at remix.

• Administrative Support: To handle day-to-day administrative tasks and ensure smooth operations at remix.

• Finance Manager: To manage budgets, financial planning, and reporting.

• IT Support: To manage our website, databases, and other tech needs that will help us at remix.

Play Activity Volunteer:

We’re looking for special individuals to work alongside our staff team supporting the children, young people and families who access our care in the Hospice. You will be supporting the children doing fun activities such as arts and crafts, music and singing. If you have the right experience and skills for this unique role then we’d love to hear from you.

You might find this role suits you if:

- You have experience of working with children who have complex needs, preferably in a group setting. 

- You enjoy working as part of a team.

- You enjoy taking part in games and supporting young people in activities. 

- You want to be directly involved in supporting the children, young people and families who access our care.

Would you like the chance to support our Chefs to maintain the smooth running of the hospice kitchen? Volunteer to join our friendly kitchen team! You’ll help to serve meals to the children, young people and families who access our care. You’ll also help with tasks like setting tables, pot washing and basic food preparation.

- You enjoy being in the busy kitchen environment, or want to try this for the first time

- You want to meet new people or gain experience for your CV

- You want to do a role that makes a difference. Being looked after and well fed is an important part of the service we offer to families who need us, your volunteering role is a big part of the day to day running of the hospice.

Can you offer your support to a young person via mentoring?

FCCT are looking for volunteers to play a supportive role by actively mentoring young offenders (aged 15-21 in HMP/YOI Feltham) and to offer support under the ‘7 pathways to Reducing Reoffending’:

FCCT offer support under the seven pathways to reducing reoffending, including signposting to relevant organisations:

• Accommodation
• Education, Training and Employment (ETE)
• Health
• Drug and Alcohol Misuse
• Finance, Benefits and Debts
• Children & Families
• Attitudes, Thinking and Behaviour
• Faith

Our aim is to help young people overcome hardships and make the positive transition back into wider society and to help to reduce reoffending rates.

Scope of Volunteer Main Role and Duties (not exhaustive):

Mentoring Arm:

1. Work through a ‘Discharge List’ systematically, cross referencing with the Operations Manager, so as not to duplicate any work or contact with the young people.
2. Hand out and (where needed) help complete ‘Questionnaires’ given to young people from the ‘Discharge List’, in order to ascertain what type of job or education sector the young person would be interested in going into. Forms to be given to the Operations Manager afterwards.
3. Follow up with a one-to-one session – register the young person to the FCCT programme and completing relevant paperwork, which will include our ‘Client Profile Form’ and ‘Consent Form’.
4. Update a shared ‘Client Spreadsheet’ which will be used to capture data information, as to the young people that FCCT are engaging with.
5. If required, identify relevant Churches/Mosques etc for the young people to attend post release and contact said religious establishments, to understand their referral criteria and then make relevant referrals, where required.
6. Collect testimonials from the young people in relation to the support FCCT have offered them.
7. Mentoring of young people 
8. Make or facilitate family contacts for resettlement purposes, in relation to the young people.

We are looking for individuals who demonstrate the following attributes:

• Commitment: Shows commitment to the organisation, its values and its clients, understanding that the building of trust and consistency is key, in terms of the clientele FCCT work with.
• Communication: Communicates well both verbally and in writing. An ability to communicate effectively with young people would also be an added benefit.
• Resilience: Demonstrates patience and understanding in the face of challenges.
• Professionalism: Complies with all FCCT policies and procedures, particularly regarding Safeguarding, GDPR etc.
• Non-judgemental: Demonstrates empathy and openness and does not impose personal values or conscious or unconscious bias.
• Solution focused: Can help to identify issues and meets challenges with optimism and offers solutions, seeing them as an opportunity to learn.

Training and Support

We will provide all the necessary training. Training will be provided on an ongoing basis and volunteers will be given a full induction of the organisation and how the projects run.

Time Required

FCCT ask for a minimum of 8 hours a month. Due to the flexibility of the role, the hours can be distributed over different days between the core hours of 9am - 5pm, including Sundays. We are for a commitment of at least a year with the project, due to the flexibility of the role.

Do you have experience in the maintenance or building trade?
Would you like to contribute to the successful running of Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice? We are looking for facilities volunteers to help us provide a special environment for the families that access our services.

About the hospice:

Bluebell Wood offers care for children and young people in South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire, North Lincolnshire and North Derbyshire with a vast range of complex medical needs. We provide support, respite, care in the community and end of life care. Sibling support is also at the heart of our work, as well as counselling, wellbeing and bereavement services.

About this role:

This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to assist our Facilities and Estates Team. We are looking for a hard-working, self-motivated person with knowledge of health and safety principles and experience of caretaking or practical & hands on maintenance and with clean UK driving license. This role will contribute to the successful running of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

Key tasks:

• Assist the team with site maintenance (upon completion of required training), to include reactive repairs, planned preventative maintenance, porterage, and project work.

• Assist the team with grounds maintenance & repairs, to include litter picking, path clearing (snow / leaves etc) garden building & furniture repairs, maintenance of garden tools & equipment.

What we are looking for:

Volunteers who: 

• Have a few hours to spare each week to help

• Are physically fit and healthy to fulfil the manual activities involved 

• Have knowledge of health & safety legislation

• Are maintenance or building trade trained or holds relevant qualification(s) in any building trade discipline or equivalent experience / knowledge

• Have experience of PPM’s, statutory maintenance, or reactive repairs

• Are able to work independently and be a team player

• Are friendly, respectful and have good communication skills 

• Understand the sensitive and confidential work which is carried out at the hospice

• Gloves (provided) (summer and winter for volunteering outside)

• Hat (summer and winter for volunteering outside) 

• External waterproof coat

• Full length trousers (for protection to legs)

In this role you will;​

• Oversee Financial Records: Ensure that accurate and up-to-date financial records are maintained.

• Budgeting: Lead on the preparation of the annual budget and monitor actual performance against budget.

• Financial Reporting: Provide regular financial reports to the board, including income and expenditure statements, balance sheets, and cash flow forecasts.

• Ensure Compliance: Ensure that the charity complies with all financial regulations and reporting requirements.

• Audit and Review: Oversee the annual audit or independent examination of the charity's accounts.

• Policies and Procedures: Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure proper financial management and control.

• Financial Strategy: Contribute to the development of the charity's financial strategy and ensure that the charity has the resources to achieve its goals.

• Investment Management: Oversee the charity's investments and ensure that they are managed in line with the charity's investment policy.

• Advise the Board: Provide financial advice and guidance to the board of trustees.

• Training and Development: Ensure that trustees are aware of their financial responsibilities and provide training if necessary.

• Sub-Committees: Chair or participate in finance-related sub-committees, if applicable.

• Fundraising: Support fundraising efforts and ensure that funds are used effectively and in line with donor intentions.

• Risk Management: Identify and manage financial risks to the charity.

• Collaboration: Work closely with other trustees, staff, and volunteers to achieve the charity's objectives.

• Monitoring and Evaluation: Establishing systems to monitor and evaluate programme performance, and using data to inform decision-making and improve outcomes.

• Stakeholder Engagement: Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, partners, and beneficiaries.

• Reporting: Preparing and presenting reports on programme performance to the charity's leadership and board of directors.

• Support and Development: Offering ongoing support, feedback, and development opportunities to volunteers. Addressing any issues or concerns they may have.

• Recognition and Retention: Implementing strategies to recognise and reward volunteers for their contributions, and developing programmes to retain them.

• Policy and Procedure Development: Creating and updating volunteer policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal and organisational standards.

• Communication: Acting as a liaison between volunteers and the charity's staff, ensuring clear and effective communication.

• Evaluation and Reporting: Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the volunteer programme, and reporting on its impact to stakeholders.

• Design Creation: Developing visual content for various platforms, including social media, websites, print materials, and promotional campaigns.

• Brand Consistency: Ensuring all designs align with the charity's brand guidelines and maintain a consistent visual identity.

• Collaborating with Teams: Working closely with other departments, such as marketing, fundraising, and communications, to create effective and engaging materials.

• Project Management: Managing multiple design projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines, and ensuring high-quality output.

• Innovation and Creativity: Bringing fresh ideas and creative solutions to design challenges, staying updated with design trends and technologies.

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and other relevant tools.

• Feedback and Revisions: Incorporating feedback from team members and stakeholders to refine and improve designs.

Our retail stores are the face of our charity on the high-street and in local communities. We have loads of amazing stock donated to us every week, and this all needs to be sorted, tagged and put on the shop-floor for sale!

Making sure our shops look fantastic is another task you can get involved with. You may also be required to help out on the till too, but we will show you how that works during your time volunteering with us. We value the contribution of everyone who supports Barnardo’s.

You will be a friendly face of Barnardo’s by volunteering in one of our shops. It would be great if you could volunteer one shift a week (or even more if you want) but we’re always happy to be flexible to work around your availability.
