About the Role
As a Safeguarding Trustee, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the children and young people we serve. You will work closely with our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to oversee and enhance our safeguarding practices.
This is an unpaid position.
Key Responsibilities
- Review child protection and safeguarding referrals and concerns quarterly with the DSL, and present a report to the Board of Trustees.
- Provide an overview of safeguarding concerns at each Board meeting.
- Convene the Safeguarding and Child Protection Sub Group as needed.
- Annually review the Single Central Record and staff/volunteer training records.
- Support the DSL in the annual review of safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Stay informed about changes in safeguarding legislation and best practices.
- Address any unresolved safeguarding concerns within the organisation.
Essential Key Qualities
- Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection for children, young people, and young adults.
- Willingness to undertake essential training as and when required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other trustees, staff, and volunteers.
- Commitment to the values and mission of Youth Connect South West.
Time Commitment
- Quarterly Trustee meetings (2 hours per quarter).
- Quarterly Safeguarding and Child Protection Sub Group meetings (1-2 hours).
- Monthly virtual meetings with the DSL.
- Additional time for ad hoc consultations and urgent situations.
- Attendance at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
- Participation in training sessions as needed.
