Job description

We are currently delivering ‘Developing Futures’ - a funded 12-week e-mentoring programme for young people aged between 18-24 years from ethnic minority backgrounds and facing mental health challenges, in the London Boroughs of Barnet, Brent, Ealing, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow and Haringey.

The e-mentoring programme involves finding experienced mentors and matching them with young mentees who will benefit from having reliable and consistent guidance for a concentrated 12-week period, supporting them to develop a growth mindset, hope, self-efficacy, coping mechanisms and social capital through the support of a positive role model.  All invaluable in their journey to a successful career, making positive life choices and creating a positive mental health foundation for today and beyond.

We are rapidly expanding the programme and now require some hands-on administrative support to help with enrolling new mentors/mentees, matching mentors with mentees, responding to admin questions from mentors/mentees and generally supporting the Project Manager on day-to-day administrative tasks to ensure we can help as many young people as possible with the right mentors, as soon as possible.

By generously offering your time and administration skills, you will help to support vulnerable young people make the changes they need to get their lives back on track.

Key tasks

The main administrative tasks we are looking for support with are:

·       Supporting volunteer mentors through the administration onboarding process;

·       Supporting our mentees through the administration onboarding process;

·       Keeping project databases up to date;

·       Note taking during our steering group committee meeting, and highlighting actions;

·       Assisting with the relevant communications to promote the programme.

Who we are looking for

·       Someone passionate about wanting to support a mental health charity that creates change in young adult’s lives.

·       Someone who is confident, but also personable and approachable so our young mentees feel comfortable to ask for administrative support.

·       Someone who has a working experience of Microsoft Office applications, e.g. Word, Excel and PowerPoint, but has not necessarily worked in an administrative role previously.

·       You may be someone who is looking to move into an administrative role in the future and wants to gain some work experience in this area before applying for paid roles.

·       No formal experience or qualifications are required, however, due to the potentially sensitive nature of the role, we will require you to complete a DBS check, which we will pay for.

Your time commitment

We would like someone that can provide voluntary administrative support for 14 hours per week, ideally split over at least 2 weekdays.  However, we are flexible and open to hearing what works for you and your lifestyle.

Location

·       This is a virtual home-based role, with full training provided as part of a tailored induction programme.

·       Regular remote support will be provided, in the form of regular meetings and check-ins.

Benefits & Perks

·       Fantastic opportunity to formalise your administration skills on a worthwhile / charitable project.

·       An opportunity to ‘give back’ and indirectly support young people with mental health difficulties with your administration skills.

·       A chance to gain experience in both the charitable and mental health sector.

·       A chance to connect with new people from home – predominantly the Twining team responsible for delivering the project, but also programme mentees and mentors.
