Job description

Steel City Schools Partnership (SCSP) is searching for an individual to join our board of trustees. SCSP is a Sheffield-based multi-academy trust of ten primary schools, serving around 3500 pupils located in the north and south of the city. SCSP anticipates further growth within Sheffield.

We are aiming for Achieving Excellence in educational outcomes for children through the delivery of an ambitious enriching curriculum, Sustaining Excellence through the development of our workforce and Sharing Excellence across schools and through partnerships. This is supported through targeted and effective school improvement. Each school will consistently seek to improve on its previous best, whilst accepting collective responsibility for ensuring that all schools within the partnership are supported to improve.

The Role of a Trustee

The main purpose of the Trust Board is to take a strategic role, act as a critical friend to the Trust and its constituent schools, and be accountable for its decisions. The Trustees are responsible for the governance and supervision of the Trust and its committees. Trustees are responsible for governing a charitable company and directing how it is managed and run.

Trustees also ensure that the Trust complies with all legal and statutory requirements. The Trust board works closely with the CEO and COO who are responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the Trust and its schools. The role of the board is strategic.

Trustees work together to carry out their core functions:

  1. ensuring there is clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  2. holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils and the performance management of staff
  3. overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent
  4. ensuring the voices of stakeholders are heard.
