HouseProud Pledge Scheme Description

The HouseProud Pledge is a scheme that all social housing providers can sign up to. It asks them to demonstrate their commitment to LGBTQIA+ resident equality and support. It was engineered to work flexibly for all social housing providers, regardless of their size and geographical location. It has been developed by HouseProud and the University of Surrey in association with residents, staff members and sector leaders to address the issues raised by the findings of ‘No Place Like Home?’, a study undertaken to understand LGBTQIA+ experiences of social housing.

Why is the pledge needed?

The home is of central importance to LGBTQIA+ residents, because it should be a place where people can freely express their sexual orientation and/ or gender identity without fear or prejudice. Sadly, despite recent changes in equality laws, LGBTQIA+ residents continue to experience discrimination in their everyday.

Role Description

We are recruiting to our LGBTQIA+ Pledge Assessment Panel as we are looking for residents of social housing providers who identify as LGBTQIA+ and are passionate about housing. Full training will be provided so you do not need to be a board member or trustee to apply.

What is the LGBTQIA+ Pledge Assessment Panel?

Each year organisations summit evidence to say how they have complied with the HouseProud Pledge, if this meets the criteria, they are awarded the HouseProud Pledge or Pledge Plus status. We want LGBTQIA+ residents at the centre of the assessment process. We are looking for three tenants and one homeowner. We encourage applications from across the LGBTQIA+ communities.

What will you be asked to do?

If you are successful, you will be required to attend a online training session and two online meetings.

Who can apply?

You need to be:

·        18+

·        LGBTQIA+

·        Live in Social Housing provided by a Housing Association or Local Authority

·        A homeowner, who’s freeholder is a Housing Association or Local Authority

What are we looking for?

Full training will be provided so we are looking for people who are:

·        Committed to Equalities, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

·        Passionate about social housing

·        Ability to thoroughly evaluate information

·        Ability to express your opinion in a group

How to apply?

Please tell us why you want to apply and how you meet the criteria in no more that 500 words (you can also apply by alternative methods such as video or audio - if you wish to do so please email us). If you are successful at the application stage, you will be invited to meet two of the existing panel members for an online chat on 10th July at 6pm.
