Meditation can give us a sense of calm, peace and balance that can benefit both our emotional wellbeing and overall health. African Drumming creates a sense of community and connection and is known to bring people together. Drumming also offers a healthy outlet for stress, anxiety and depression, and through the rhythm created, you’ll find a constructive way to navigate difficult times.

We are recruiting for a volunteer to facilitate African Drumming group sessions and promote cultural diversity, tolerance, and appreciation for different artistic expressions.

• To facilitate African Drumming lessons for beginners in a small group

As Chair of Trustees you will provide strategic direction for the charity, ensuring that we are meeting the demand for our services, and making certain that we help and support people in crisis in the local community.

Key tasks

Responsibilities:

• Chair meetings so that the Board functions effectively and carries out its duties
• Ensure the Board sets an overall direction for the food bank with clear objectives
• Ensure that the business of meetings is dealt with and decisions are recorded and implemented,
• In consultation with the rest of the Board, to recruit Board members with relevant expertise and experience when required.
• Manage your charity’s resources responsibly, including ensuring the charity's assets are used only to carry out its purpose, avoid undue risk and not over-commit the charity.
• To ensure the Board regularly reviews its structure, roles and relationship to staff and implementing changes when necessary
• Ensure that there is appropriate line management in place to support the CEO.

Objectives of the food bank:

• To ensure that the Trustee Board develops a long term strategy for the food bank with clear objectives which can be monitored and adapted.
• Ensure an effective relationship between staff, volunteers and stakeholders
• To plan with the CEO an annual schedule of any sub committee /steering group meetings and other key events which Board members should attend
• To work alongside the CEO to ensure there is appropriate communication between the Trustee Board and staff, volunteers and any other stakeholders.

Other responsibilities along with the Board of Trustees, include:

• To work alongside the Treasurer to ensure the organisation's financial dealings are systematically accounted for and on time, independently examined and made publicly available when necessary.
• Ensure your charity is accountable actively complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and the law.
• Ensure appropriate financial plans are in place for future budget allocations as well as looking after contractual agreements with external partners that award money for core costs and additional projects.
• To help promote the organisation to a wider audience of potential funders and beneficiaries.
• To ensure the food bank has appropriate procedures to comply with current legislations and good practice, including employment , health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding & GDPR compliance/data protection.
• Act with reasonable care and skill, giving your time, thought and energy to your role.
• Promote the food bank in the community.

Prevent isolation in your community become a befriender

We all need a helping hand or listening ear – sometimes more so due to health, isolation or recovery following an operation. Local charity, Connection Support, are looking for volunteer befrienders to support their Prevention Matters clients to build a more fulfilling life in Buckinghamshire.

Prevention Matters help adults regain confidence, maintain independence and help them get out and about. The Community Support Workers support clients by finding help, signposting to other services, connect with others in the local community and provide encouragement to get involved in social events.

How you can make a difference to people’s lives as a Prevention Matters volunteer

• Increase or maintain social links such as attend local events, transport to coffee mornings
• Accompany clients on GP or hospital appointments

Glenrothes Foodbank are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by the Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger in local communities across the UK. They don’t believe anyone within the community should have to face going hungry, that’s why the Foodbank are committed to addressing poverty and hunger locally, providing three days' worth of nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to individuals referred to them during times of crisis.

The opportunity has arisen for new Trustees to join the Board of Glenrothes Foodbank, to strategically guide the organisation forward.

The Role of Trustee:

As a Trustee, your role will be pivotal in shaping the priorities and vision for the foodbank. You'll play a crucial part in engaging with strategic planning, developing action plans to drive the Foodbank forward, and ensuring policies and procedures are robust. Working in collaboration with the Board, you’ll oversee the organisation’s operations, manage paid staff members and oversee financial matters, ensuring that the activities of the foodbank are in the interests of beneficiaries.

You should align with Glenrothes Foodbank’s values and have a passion, interest, and commitment to tackling food poverty across Glenrothes and its local communities. We are interested in candidates with skills or experience in the following areas: finance, law (specifically charity law), fundraising, property and estates management, experience leading an organisation. Previous board experience or knowledge of governance is desirable, while excellent communication, teamworking, and interpersonal skills are essential.

This search is being conducted exclusively for Glenrothes Foodbank by BTA (Bruce Tait Associates). Our leadership team have all worked in the voluntary sector and we use this experience to match organisations and individuals to create great appointments.

The Men in Sheds Project: Is a project specifically for men aged 50+. It provides a well equipped workshop space where men can work together on a range of practical activities. We currently have ‘sheds’ in Blidworth and Worksop. The project aims to:

- encourage men to be more socially active

- give members an outlet for their skills and the opportunity to learn new skills

- provide a break amongst friends for older men who are carers

- give retired men the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to the local community

- provide access to information and other local services Members are encouraged to take ownership of their ’shed’.

What impact does this role have? This role helps combat social isolation for men over the age of 50.

What activities might you be involved in?

• To unlock the shed and get it ready for use, heating, check for unsafe items of machines etc.

• Supervising workshop sessions, alongside another volunteer.

• Collect or oversee the payment of subscriptions, ensure that members book in on the attendance register

• Assist members if needed with projects, lifting etc.

• Agree with members in advance on the price of projects that members make

• Take payment for items when finished, issue a receipt and record the sale

• Encourage work that could be done to members, orders, seasonal items etc.

• Meet and greet visitors, ensure they comply with all safety requirements and to sign in

• Meet and greet potential new members, show them around the shed and briefly describe the aims and function of the shed. Arrange a meeting with a shed leader for induction if interested. Ensure they comply with all safety requirements and to sign in

• (With one other Volunteer or member) Count and record subscriptions & tea fund at the end of the day and put away in the safe 

• You will be supported by a staff member from the Men in Sheds Team 

• To check that everything is switched off, the ‘Red Button’ is pressed and to lock up at the end of the day

• Reporting any concerns to the Shed leader

What are we looking for?

o To wear PPE equipment yourself, if you don’t use PPE and injure yourself, you could be negligent, the shed will not accept any responsibility for your injury. This should also be pointed out to members

o Ensure there is no smoking in the shed, only in the outside designated smoking area

o Stop other members from carrying out unsafe practices or report it to a Shed Leader immediately

o Actively contribute to keeping the shed clean and tidy

➢ Expected levels of conduct include:

o Treat members and fellow volunteers in a friendly and supportive approachable manner

o Not use rude, offensive, threatening or abusive behaviour, language or gestures

o If anybody is deemed under the influence they will be asked to leave the shed and not to return until sober

o Report any incidents or breach of any of the above to the Shed Leader in confidence

o Report any complaints about the project / charity in line with Age UK Notts’ Compliments and Complaints procedure

➢ Be able to cover a session either weekly or to provide cover on an ‘as needed’ basis.

Ability to work sensitively and confidentially with men from a variety of backgrounds.

We are looking for volunteers who can regularly commit to at least one session per week.

• The Blidworth Shed: Open Tuesday 9am - 2pm & Thursday 9am - 1pm and will soon be opening on a Wednesday (9am until 2pm), and we are looking for volunteers on a Wednesday and a Thursday.

Our charity's overarching objectives are to support the improvement of the health and wellbeing of our local community and to facilitate the creation of positive community relationships. Over the last 6 years, we have worked very hard to refurbish an unused building and create a welcoming, warm and inclusive community hub in the heart of our neighbourhood where people feel safe and are able to take part in a range of community activities as well as accessing support and advice.

We offer 25 activities each week in our community centre and over 20 activities a week in our two local outreach centres. Our activity timetable, incorporating sessions run both by our charity and by partner organisations provides activities appropriate for people aged 0 to 100. We are open 7 days a week and offer a wide range of services including support for families, older people and the long term unemployed. We work with a range of partners to deliver the activities and utilise local expertise to deliver the adult education sessions, youth work and advice services.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking individuals who are passionate about community work, have a commitment to making a difference, and want to help guide the direction of Kyffin Place Community Centre. You don’t need to have previous board experience – we welcome individuals from all backgrounds who bring diverse perspectives, skills, and enthusiasm to the table.

Key Responsibilities of a Trustee

- Attend regular board meetings (approx. 6 per year) and participate in decision-making processes.

- Provide strategic leadership and support to the Centre’s staff and volunteers.

- Help ensure that Kyffin Place Community Centre complies with its legal and financial obligations.

- Promote the Centre's vision and mission within the wider community.

- Support fundraising efforts and help identify new opportunities for growth and sustainability.

Who We Need

- Community development or outreach 

- Finance and budgeting 

- Fundraising or grant writing

- Strategic planning or business development 

- Legal or governance knowledge
