Job description

About Roots Academy

At Roots Academy, we’ve built a learning experience that’s changing the lives of the ummah’s future leaders, change-makers and visionaries. Our vision is that Muslim adults live God-centred lives, and we do so by delivering structured, engaging and transformative face-to-face foundational Islamic education to over 1,800 students across the UK.

Role Summary

The top 1% of British Muslim intellectual capital lies in its professionals - doctors, consultants, dentists, engineers and strategists - all of whom use their intelligence and capacity to improve worldly outcomes for corporations, but do not have the knowledge, motivation, or channels to leverage their skillset to further God’s cause.

From 2021 - 2024 Roots Academy developed and delivered an innovative and contemporary curriculum that has proved effective with the 17-25 year old audience at university.

Since then, a number of Muslim corporate networks have reached out to explore an implementation of this educational program in partnership with their networks. We have been trialling the same with one big-4 corporate network, and this year we plan to formalise and officially launch the offering for Muslim professionals at-large with multiple Muslim professional networks on board. The vision is that 1,000 Muslim professionals have experienced a complete life transformation in the next 5 years, as a result of this program.

The Project Manager for this initiative will need to be a professional, and ideally will have experience developing and delivering similar development programs for Muslims. They will need to be scrappy, making do with a minimal budget and growing a team around them, managing the various stakeholders (instructors, internal teams, external partner orgs, etc.) to. promote, manage, and deliver the course.

At Roots, we look for people who operate with Ihsan - that means they take this job as seriously, or even moreso than their day job; people who are willing to give their best for Allah.

The role-holder will need to be a versatile problem-solver with exceptional stakeholder manager, a grounding in Islam’s fundamentals, and the ability to build a team around them, and do whatever it takes to get things done.

Key Tasks

  • Project planning – including but not limited to planning activities, budgeting, completing risk assessments, setting deadlines etc.

  • Project delivery – leading on promotion and delivery of the course, working with the marketing team to market the course, meet course registration targets, and ensure course sessions are carried out on time.

  • Project monitoring and evaluation – tracking project progress, resolving any problems that may arise, collecting feedback from participants, and evaluating the course, post completion.

  • Team leadership – managing and coordinating with volunteers as required.

What we’re looking for

  • Grounding in foundational Islamic studies

  • Demonstrated experience in leadership roles

  • Experience in delivering educational courses end-to-end

  • Experience in project management and delivery

  • Desirable - Established connection with Muslim professional networks

What we have to offer

  • Be part of a team of 40+ dedicated volunteers from across the country.

  • Receive continuous rewards for those that seek Islamic knowledge from the Roots platform.

  • Be a part of a growing organisation that aims to revive and educate Muslims from a grassroots perspective.

  • Receive in-house tarbiyah sessions to develop your deen.

Please note this is an unpaid volunteer position.

Volunteers are entitled to claim expenses incurred for food, travel and equipment, in line with our Expenses policy.

This would be an ideal position for someone with experience in project management, looking to volunteer their time and develop their leadership skills, in a faith-based start-up environment.

We will be reviewing applicants on a rolling basis, if you are interested please apply today - we would love to hear from you!
