Job description

As a UK learning disability charity and not-for-profit organisation, Camphill Village Trust brings 70 years of experience, knowledge and passion to supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism and neurodivergence, mental health challenges and complex needs.

We are a unique, national charity, with a bold plan to shape a new future for adult social care within vibrant community settings. If your values match ours, and you have the skills / experience we're looking for, we'd love to hear from you.

What will you be doing?

The Trust's vision is to be a national leader in Social and Green Care integration, enabling more adults with learning disabilities, autism and mental health challenges to live healthy, active and independent lives. We are committed to quality support and housing choice, impact-focussed green care opportunities, becoming a beacon of land management and sustainability and using our enterprise portfolio to drive social value. Our ethos is one of co-production and the voices of the people we support actively contribute to the work of the Trust, the way services are developed and delivered and the decisions that we take.

Working with the Chair, other Board members and staff, our Trustees support us to realise our vision and strategic objectives. They support the good governance of the Trust, ensuring that our purpose is fulfilled, and that the Trust is well-managed, financially viable and working within the requirements of the law, regulation and our funders.

The full Board is supported by three sub committees - Audit & Risk, Investment & Innovation and Quality & People. Trustees will be members of the full Board and at least one sub committee.

Location

Whilst our registered office is in North Yorkshire, the Trust is a national charity. We hold Board and Committee meetings, and other events, both in person at our various communities and virtually via Teams. Trustees are expected to attend meetings and events held in person. The Trust's nine communities are located in Hertfordshire, Gloucestershire, Yorkshire & Worcestershire. Access to the main travel corridors of the M25, M40, M1 and M6 would be advantageous.

Time Commitment

1-3 hours / week. This includes preparing for and attending Board meetings and at least one additional sub committee and attendance at strategy and training events.

We are looking for the following experience and abilities:

  • senior level experience in a non-executive or executive capacity and a proven track record in contributing effectively to the leadership and development of an organisation
  • ability to contribute from a strategic, rather than operational perspective, together with the ability to question and challenge, as well as support
  • sound understanding of good governance, and the regulatory and compliance requirements in the social care sector
  • an effective communicator
  • strong analytical skills
  • ideally, relevant, lived experience aligned to our purpose

We are seeking someone with the following attributes and behaviours:

  • supports the values and vision of the Trust
  • demonstrates a strong commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and belonging
  • ability to attend Board and committee meetings regularly
  • acts with integrity and is committed to accountability, openness and transparency
  • a collaborative style that promotes positive working relationships with other Trustees, staff, the people we support and their families and other stakeholders
  • a customer and community focus

What difference will you make?

As a Trustee, you will have a real opportunity to shape our work and strategic direction, and to help us achieve our mission to see more people with learning and other disabilities lead a Life of Opportunity.

You will be joining us in our 70th anniversary year, as we embark on our three year strategy - A Brilliant Future. To succeed in achieving our goals we aim to honour our past, provide for the present and lead the future.

You will use your particular expertise to support the Trust to develop and progress our Supported Living Strategy and Model and to shape our delivery of good quality services, which meet all compliance and regulatory requirements. All Trustees have a role in raising the Trust's profile in support of our fundraising goals.
