Role Description

What you’ll do:

• Develop and maintain a policy and user guide development plan aligned with organizational priorities.
• Review, update, and improve existing organizational policies and procedures.
• Support the creation of new policies, guidelines, and governance documents as needed.
• Ensure policies are practical, user-friendly, and aligned with legal and regulatory requirements.
• Work closely with leadership and team members to identify policy gaps and organizational needs.
• Support the development of simple user guides and implementation tools to facilitate policy adoption.

Skills we’re looking for:

• Background in law, governance, public policy, compliance, human resources, nonprofit management, or a related field.
• Experience drafting, reviewing, or implementing policies and procedures.
• Strong research, analytical, and writing skills.

This year we are looking for three people to join our Board of Trustees at our AGM in October 26.

Trustees of the Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust (SRWT) are volunteers who together lead the organisation in the planning, resourcing and delivery of its activities, so that it can achieve its charitable objectives.  An enthusiastic, committed and active Board of Trustees, with a good range of knowledge, skills, experience and personal qualities is vital to the healthy and effective running of the organisation.

The Board of Trustees:

• lead the strategic development and planning of the Trust

• develop and adopt appropriate policies

• aim to ensure that the Trust is legally compliant and works to best practice wherever possible

• supports, guides and advises the Trust’s staff and volunteers, especially the CEO and the Executive Team

This year, we are especially keen to hear from people who:

Have expertise, knowledge and experience in one or more of the of the following areas:

• Marketing

• Commercial management, business acumen, profit for purpose experience (with reference to our consultancy)

• Green finance.

• Enterprise development

• Income generation

• Legal experience

• Health, Safety and safeguarding policy and compliance

• Have a good knowledge of communities and/or natural environment in Rotherham

• Can represent more of our diverse community in Sheffield & Rotherham

We are also recruiting for a Trustee to be our Treasurer who will have:

• Professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, AAT)

• Ability to analyse proposals and understand financial consequences

About Us

The Almshouse Association is the national membership body representing almshouse charities across England and Wales and supporting the wider charitable housing sector. As part of this work, we support the Charity Housing Alliance (CHA), a growing network of charitable housing providers, housing trusts and not-for-profit housing organisations.

The Charity Housing Alliance works with members, partners and policymakers to raise awareness of the vital contribution charitable housing providers make to communities, while advocating for greater recognition and support for the sector.

About the Role

Working closely with The Almshouse Association and Charity Housing Alliance leadership team, you'll play an important role in supporting membership engagement, communications, research and administration. You'll help build relationships across the sector, strengthen the Alliance's network, and support activities that raise the profile of charitable housing providers at both local and national level.

Key Responsibilities

Membership Engagement & Development

• Respond to enquiries from members, stakeholders and supporters.
• Support initiatives to grow and strengthen the Alliance's network.
• Assist with outreach to potential members and partners.
• Help welcome and engage new members.
• Encourage participation and engagement across the network.

Communications & Awareness Raising

• Support the management of the Charity Housing Alliance website.
• Assist with social media activity and awareness campaigns.
• Contribute to newsletters, member communications and promotional materials.
• Monitor sector developments and identify opportunities to promote the Alliance's work.

Research & Policy Support

• Research policy, legislation and developments affecting charitable housing.
• Support the collection of case studies and sector insights.
• Monitor consultations, funding opportunities and sector announcements.
• Research new partnerships and opportunities for the Alliance.

Administration & Coordination

• Provide day-to-day administrative support.
• Organise meetings, events, webinars and stakeholder engagement activities.
• Maintain records and contact databases.
• Assist with reports, presentations and briefing papers.

About You

As a Health and Safety Volunteer you’ll make sure all local group volunteers are aware of their health and safety responsibilities. You’ll help them understand and follow guidelines and procedures to coordinate safe activities.

• Ensuring that everyone in the group is aware of health and safety responsibilities 
• Accurately following and implementing our risk management procedures for activities and services provided by the group 
• Ensuring that the group meets and reports on our health and safety requirements, assisting with audits and reviews as required

Aim of this role
Research and Campaigns volunteers support our work to change the policies and practice that affect the lives of our clients.

As an R&C volunteer, you will be a part of the R&C team. You will:

• complete an induction to Citizens Advice and training for your role

• keep up-to-date with trends of the concerns affecting clients locally as well as areas identified by national Citizens Advice, and raise call for evidence

• research and gather quality information on key issues affecting local residents

• ensure all volunteers/staff are aware of the purpose of Research and Campaigns and how to write evidence forms

• produce useful, appealing and easily accessible campaign materials and publications for information purposes

• feed back to assessors and advisers on the results of their work and provide them with assistance in completing evidence forms

• help national Citizens Advice to carry out research about how certain issues affect clients in your local area

• gather case studies and client stories

• ensure that equality, diversity and inclusion are promoted in our R&C work

• adhere to Citizens Advice Merton and Lambeth’s (CAML) aims and principles

• comply with all relevant GDPR rules and regulations

Locations

This role is based in our Mitcham office with some occasional traveling to our other offices in Morden and Kennington. All three offices are well-connected to public transport, and the office in Mitcham has a car park.

We will reimburse all reasonable out of pocket travel and lunch expenses.

We are looking for volunteers who are able come to our office for at least one day per week.

We are seeking a volunteer to support our fundraising team by researching new corporate partnership opportunities and helping to build a pipeline of prospective business supporters.

The volunteer will identify companies whose values and CSR, ESG, employee engagement or charitable giving objectives align with Housing for Women’s mission. The role will focus on researching Charity of the Year partnerships, strategic corporate collaborations, sponsorship opportunities and corporate volunteering programmes.

The volunteer will play a key role in maintaining and developing a pipeline of prospective corporate supporters, helping Housing for Women create new income-generating and engagement opportunities.

We fundraise so we can run services and support for people with MS, and fund our groundbreaking research programme that aims to stop MS altogether. As a Fundraising Events Volunteer, you’ll help us deliver fun and exciting fundraising events. Your responsibilities can include helping with preparation and setting up, registration, meeting and greeting people, marshalling, and stewarding and supporting our fundraising events participants. In this role you’ll develop your communication, organisation and team working skills. 

What you’ll be doing:

• Participating in fundraising events throughout the year, with some involvement in preparations on the day
• Cheering on our team at one of our cheer points to give them a much needed boost

JOB DESCRIPTION

The National Institute for African Studies (NIAS) is a London-based think tank that provides objective information on African affairs, looking to appoint a Research & Publishing Intern within its office in South West, London. Our main publication, The Saharan is an interdisciplinary journal published by NIAS aimed at exploring the dynamic relationship between culture and development in Africa/UK.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

- Support the editors in the sourcing & production of blog and journal publications

- Checking material for completeness, copy-edit and check appropriate non-technical material such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter updates

- Generate, check and correct files with names, contact information, number of articles, review assessments, and consent forms.

- Serve as a custodian of approved originals of all documentation produced for The Saharan journal

- Use NIAS LinkedIn account to connect to academics and groups to promote the journal, acquire papers, and attract skilled scholars to become reviewers

- Coordinate the publication flow of the journal and all stages of the editorial processes upon the release of each issue

- Review and adjust publications according to the style of the journal, ensuring the correct usage of references and plagiarism checking

- Update wordpress website and a range of social media accounts with news, updates and promotions

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST:

- Have a minimum of undergraduate degree

- Excellent knowledge of MS Office applications

The Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA UK) is a charity and independent campaigning organisation established in 1984. We pioneered undercover investigations to combat environmental crime and abuse. We use evidence and analysis to bring about lasting policy and changes to legislation to protect our planet, its biodiversity, climate and all who live here.

Our vision is a future where humanity respects, protects and celebrates the natural world.

We are looking for volunteers to start immediately.

EIA UK is seeking two volunteers to support the Intelligence & Investigations (I&I) team ideally 1-2 days a week and for a minimum of 3 months, with research and data entry.

The I&I team undertakes strategic and intelligence-led activities in cooperation with the Campaign team to act and tackle illegal trade in wildlife parts and derivatives. We are looking for support to update and maintain the Global Environmental Crime Tracker- a publicly accessible database charting wildlife crime seizures, prosecutions and convictions. Volunteers with a keen eye for detail and appetite for data are encouraged to apply and should have an interest in the environment, a passion for conservation and share the aims of EIA.

Do you have what it takes to be an EIA Volunteer?

• Fluency in English. Capacity in any of the following languages will be an asset: Chinese, Vietnamese, Lao, Thai, French
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes
