Job description

Based in the heart of North Edinburgh, Pilton Community Health Project (PCHP) is Scotland’s oldest health project and has served local people and their families since 1984. We work alongside local people to improve their own health and wellbeing and, in turn, create a happier, more resilient community.

In 2021, we launched our Community Wellbeing Programme in response to the compounding effects of the global pandemic on local people already affected by health inequalities. The New Economics Foundation’s Five Ways to Wellbeing underpins and drives our work, helping identify ways we can rebuild individual and community capacity. The Five Ways are key actions to improve wellbeing: connect with people, be active, take notice, keep learning and give back.

PCHP’s board meets from 6-8pm on the last Monday of every month, providing essential support and guidance for the management of the charity. Our board members are responsible for the strategy, direction and sustainability of the organisation, allowing staff to carry out their activities. The board is non-executive in its role, in that it is not involved in direct service delivery, rather it is there to review, guide, advise and oversee, ensuring that our staff team is performing well and in line with agreed policies and procedures.

Board Members are not paid for their duties but are able to claim the cost of travel to and from meetings and other PCHP events. The rewards are that your time, effort and commitment really do make all the difference to our organisation and the services we provide to the community.

We are seeking to appoint new board members with specific skills, to enhance and diversify our existing board membership. Successful candidates will have excellent knowledge and experience of one or more of the following areas: fundraising, finance, marketing or HR.
