About Horizon School

Horizon School is a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) that provides short-term placements for children who face significant challenges in their mainstream schools. These challenges may include behavioural issues, social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, or being at risk of permanent exclusion.

Our mission is to offer interventions that help these students overcome barriers to learning, allowing them to return to mainstream education or transition into appropriate specialist settings.

With a dedicated team of about 30 staff members, we focus on delivering tailored learning experiences that include academic and personal development interventions.

At Horizon School, we believe that education is not just about academic achievement but about nurturing the whole child. Our curriculum is designed to foster self-esteem, independence, and emotional regulation, enabling each child to thrive in their future educational journeys. Our ethos centres around inclusivity, high expectations, and personalised support, ensuring that every child is given the opportunity to succeed.

About the role

The Management Committee plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the school continues to achieve its goals. Comprising community managers, staff representatives, and local authority members, the committee oversees the school’s strategic direction, financial performance, and educational outcomes. However, we are experiencing a gap in leadership on the committee and need a new Chair to guide us through the next stages of our journey.

As the Chair of the Horizon School Management Committee, you will have the opportunity to guide our leadership team and influence the future of the children under our care.

Your role will be crucial in ensuring that our school continues to meet the needs of our students and operates at the highest standards of governance and educational performance.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a committed, dynamic, and experienced individual who understands the challenges faced by children with SEMH needs and the importance of governance in education. The ideal candidate will be someone who has:

·         Strong understanding of governance

·         Exceptional leadership skills

·         Excellent organisational and analytical skills

·         Knowledge/understanding of SEND (or willingness to learn fast is also desirable)

·         A passion for education and social impact

This role is ideal for someone looking to make a lasting impact in the education sector. If you have the necessary skills, experience, and passion for this role, we would love to hear from you.

Peridot Partners and Horizon School are, together, committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and our client expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
