Job Title: Non-Executive Director (Fundraising Focus)

Location: Scotland (with options for remote attendance at meetings)

Commitment: Part-time, voluntary role (approximately 8–10 days per year)

 

About the Charity

Lochlan’s Legacy is a small but impactful charity dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of Type 1 Diabetes, reducing stigma, breaking down barriers, promoting youth voice and building a strong community. We are passionate about making a positive difference in Scotland.

Lochlan’s Legacy are passionate about making a positive difference in Scotland and to further our mission and expand our impact, we are seeking an experienced and passionate Non-Executive Director with a focus on Fundraising to join our Board.

The Role

As a Non-Executive Director (NED) focusing on Fundraising, you will provide strategic guidance and oversight to enhance our fundraising efforts, develop new revenue streams, and build sustainable partnerships. Collaborating closely with fellow Board members and the charity’s leadership team, your expertise will be pivotal in driving growth and ensuring the charity's financial sustainability.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning: Advise on and contribute to the development and implementation of fundraising strategies aligned with the charity’s mission and goals.
  • Fundraising Oversight: Provide guidance on fundraising initiatives, including grant applications, donor engagement, and exploring new funding opportunities.
  • Partnership Development: Identify and cultivate relationships with potential partners, sponsors, and stakeholders to support collaborative projects and initiatives.
  • Revenue Diversification: Explore and evaluate new income-generating activities, such as social enterprises or commercial ventures, that align with the charity’s values and objectives.
  • Risk Management: Assess potential risks associated with new fundraising initiatives and ensure appropriate mitigation strategies are in place.
  • Governance: Participate actively in Board meetings, contributing to discussions and decisions with a focus on fundraising and financial sustainability.
  • Mentorship: Offer support and mentorship to the charity’s management team and volunteers in areas related to fundraising and donor engagement.

Person Specification

We are looking for an individual with:

  • Experience: Proven experience in fundraising, donor engagement, or commercial strategy, preferably within the charity, non-profit, or social enterprise sectors.
  • Strategic Insight: Ability to think strategically and develop long-term plans to achieve organizational growth.
  • Networking Skills: Strong networking abilities with a track record of building successful partnerships and collaborations.
  • Financial Acumen: Understanding of financial planning, budgeting, and revenue management.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of inspiring confidence and conveying ideas effectively.
  • Commitment: A passion for the charity’s mission and a dedication to contributing to its success.

Commitment & Expectations

This is a voluntary role with a flexible time commitment, typically involving:

  • Board Meetings: Attendance at quarterly Board meetings (virtual or in-person).
  • Strategic Sessions: Participation in occasional strategy workshops and planning sessions.
  • Advisory Support: Availability for ad hoc consultations and advice as needed.
