About the Role
Trustees have responsibility for:

• Directing the affairs of the Union.
• Ensuring that it is legal, solvent, well-run, and delivering its charitable objectives.
• Ensuring that the charity adheres to charity law and other relevant legislation.
• Always acting in the students’ union best interests.
• The Trustees are also the Directors of the Students’ Union which is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee. Some of our Trustees are also directors of our subsidiary companies. 

Person Specification
Essential

1. A good understanding of the issues affecting all students 
2. An interest in the role of boards, committees trustees and effective governance in organisations 
3. Sound judgement and ability to think strategically and make informed decisions 
4. Strong communication skills with the ability to relate to and communicate effectively with people at all levels and from all backgrounds 
5. The ability to challenge the status quo and a willingness to speak their mind. 
6. Impartiality and fairness 
7. A determined individual who is positive and resilient enough to balance being a trustee with other responsibilities e.g. studies. 
8. Confident to hold senior staff members to account 
9. Experience of coaching and willing to extend this to student trustees
