Job description

We are looking to appoint a new Youth Advocacy trustee to join our team of passionate trustees. We are looking for someone who is passionate about socioeconomic diversity and improving outcomes for those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds and ideally has lived experience (or significant understanding) of the challenges and opportunities faced by those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. 

As Youth Advocacy trustee you will work closely with our Community and Outreach Manager, Youth board and other trustees to ensure that as a charity we have the highest impact on our beneficiaries as well as continue to be youth-led. You will use your knowledge and expertise of the youth sector to support the charity in setting its strategic direction and be fundamental in ensuring a strong working relationship between the youth board and board. You will be a visible advocate for Creative Mentor Network and use your knowledge, networks and expertise to support the charity in meeting its strategic objectives.

The Youth Advocacy trustee will:

  • Youth participation: support Creative Mentor Network to meaningfully involve young people in decision making on topics that interest or affect them within the charity

  • Youth social action: assist Creative Mentor Network to develop ways to support young people to be external advocates for our mission up to the level of policy makers

  • Youth opportunity: help to make our advocacy opportunities as equitable and beneficial to young people as possible

  • Strategy formulation: help to develop strategies that will allow the charity to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with young people. 

  • Be an advocate for the charity: represent Creative Mentor Network across a range of networks to help build presence and visibility 

 

Experience

Essential:

  • Genuine interest and commitment to socioeconomic diversity and improving outcomes and opportunities for those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds

  • Extensive knowledge of the youth and/or the education sector 

  • Experience working with young people

  • Excellent communication skills and networking capabilities so as to act as an ambassador for the charity 

 Desirable: 

  • Knowledge of the UK creative industry

  • Knowledge and understanding of the grants and funds landscape 

 

Time commitment

  • The appointment will be made initially for three years and is eligible for two consecutive terms (six years in total) 

  • The role requires the equivalent of around 1.5 days per month, mostly remote

  • Board meetings are hosted quarterly at the Creative Mentor Network office in London Victoria (18:00-20:00)

  • Like most Trustee roles, this role is offered on a voluntary basis. Reasonable expenses incurred conducting charity business will be reimbursed.

  • All trustees are expected to attend the charity events such as showcases and programme launches.
