Job description

Citizens Advice Sheffield is seeking new Trustees to join our Board.

Are you passionate about addressing poverty, inequality and discrimination in Sheffield?

We are looking for people who want Sheffield to be a fair place for all and want to help us make a positive difference to the people we help.

Citizens Advice Sheffield is one of the largest local Citizen Advice services in the country. Each year we help over 20,000 people by providing information and support through our advice services. A further 1,800 people receive in-depth support through our advocacy services.

Trustees are the people who are responsible for making sure the organisation does what it says it is going to do, help plan its future direction and keep an eye on the finances of the organisation. Trustees work as part of a team to reach sound decisions. This involves attending board meetings, liaising with staff, reading and commenting on committee papers, and providing advice and guidance on our services. Trustees can also join one of our board sub-committees; Finance, Human Resources (staff and volunteers) and Client Experience.

We want to develop a Board of Trustees that reflects the communities of Sheffield so we would particularly like to recruit people who have any of the following:

  • Direct experience of the issues and challenges our clients face, including financial insecurity, debt, insecure housing, discrimination and other issues facing disadvantaged communities.
  • Knowledge and perspectives on the opportunities and challenges for local advice, advocacy and law centre services.
  • Skills that can support the organisation’s ongoing development. This may include engaging in service changes, collaborative approaches to working with communities, experience in leadership or financial management roles and delivering services in the voluntary sector and other organisations.
  • We are also keen to recruit a member of the Deaf community to one of the posts to align with our longstanding commitment to providing a specialist BSL advice service
