Trustee
Location: CHSW - Devon, Cornwall, Bristol
Job Type: Part time Quarterly Board and committee meetings, strategy day and board development - virtual and face to face
Salary: Unpaid, expenses paid
An established and successful charity, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) provides hospice care for babies and children with life limiting conditions and their families in the South West of England
We are looking for individuals who share our passion for delivering our service and securing the funds to do so, and whose skills, experience and expertise can add value to the Charity.
Role Overview
Our Trustee Board plays a significant strategic role alongside the Senior Management Team in helping CHSW meet the needs of the babies, children, young people and families we support, and delivering our vision. Our Board of Trustees currently has 10 independent members, and we are looking for at least 2 new Trustees to join us. We are looking to enhance the current Board’s collective portfolio of skills and experience, and we are keen to secure a broad range of relevant voices to enrich our work. CHSW recognises the enormous benefits of diverse leadership. We actively and warmly encourage applications from a wide range of backgrounds. We are also keen to support individuals for whom this may be their first Trusteeship.
All areas of skill, expertise and life experience will be considered. Particularly, but not exhaustively, we would like to strengthen our Board with further experience of:
• Experience in paediatric medicine, Digital innovation and AI, Fundraising or Finance
Meetings and time commitment
CHSW’s Board generally meets for a whole day face-to-face meeting 4 times a year at a central location (Exeter/Taunton/Tiverton) or one of our 3 hospices. In addition, Assurance Committees generally meet 4 to 6 times a year, usually during the day for a 2 hour meeting via Zoom. There is also an annual full-day Strategy Day and time set aside for Board Development. Board and Committee papers are circulated a week before the meetings to allow for preparation. Where possible we would like all Trustees to be able to attend in person on the full board meeting days, but we understand that this may not always be convenient for every Trustee and consideration will be given to include some remote attendance in the right circumstances. Trustees are appointed for a period of 3 years with the option of re-election to the Board for up to 9 years.
