Audit & Risk Committee Member – Royal College of Physicians
Ensuring Integrity and Governance for a Better Healthcare Future

The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) is seeking experienced professionals to join its Audit & Risk Committee. This is an exciting opportunity to help safeguard the integrity and governance of a globally respected organisation dedicated to improving patient care and health outcomes.

About the RCP:
Representing over 40,000 members worldwide, the RCP is committed to improving diagnosis, treatment, and care while promoting excellence in education and leadership. With an annual budget of £40 million, the RCP operates from London and Liverpool, with regional offices supporting its mission.

About the Role:
As a member of the Audit & Risk Committee, you will provide strategic oversight and governance, ensuring that the RCP operates at the highest ethical and financial standards. You will play a critical role in reviewing financial systems, risk management, and internal and external audit processes to support the RCP’s commitment to excellence and accountability.

Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee the RCP’s financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with accounting standards.
* Review internal and external audit findings, recommending actions to address identified issues.
* Monitor the effectiveness of risk management frameworks and internal controls, including those related to fraud prevention and whistleblowing policies.
* Advise on key governance matters, including financial policies, procedures, and the annual audit strategy.

We are seeking candidates with:
* Significant experience in internal/external audit, risk management, or accounting within complex organisations.
* Strong knowledge of governance and risk frameworks, preferably within the charity sector.
* Excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to evaluate complex data and provide clear strategic advice.
* A commitment to the RCP’s values of care, learning, and collaboration.

Commitment:
The committee meets at least three times annually, typically virtually. Members serve a three-year term, extendable for another three years at the discretion of the Chair.

Remuneration:
This is a voluntary position. Expenses incurred while attending meetings are reimbursable per RCP policy.
