Trustee
Cancer52 is an exceptional organisation, providing one voice for over 110 cancer charities and organisations working in the area of rare and less common cancers*. These cancers account for 55% of people who die from cancer every year in the UK and we aim to ensure our collective voice is heard at the highest levels of government and in national policy making. We champion earlier diagnosis, better treatment, better representation, more funding and better support for people affected by rare and less common cancers.
The Cancer52 Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the charity’s governing documents and legal and regulatory obligations and guidance. We meet regularly to support and provide oversight to the Cancer52 CEO and staff and to discuss progress, successes, challenges, and future strategic development. A number of trustees have reached the end of their period of appointment, and we are looking for three people to join our Board.
To ensure the Board has the right skills and experience to be able to support the charity most effectively, we are particularly interested to hear from applicants with experience in charity fundraising, law, HR, marketing and public relations. Personal experience with or passion for improving care for rare and less common cancers is also desired, but not required.
As a Board, we know we need to become more diverse to better reflect and support the communities we support and bring different perspectives and thinking. We would particularly welcome applications from people from Black, Asian and ethnic minority communities and from areas outside of London.
Trustee Board meetings are held four times a year. Meetings are currently held on Wednesday afternoons, usually via Teams, but could be adjusted to accommodate the needs of the board members. You will also be expected to attend strategy days and occasional ad-hoc meetings throughout the year. We aim to meet in person at least once a year.
Trustees are not paid although reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.
*defined as all cancers except breast, bowel, lung, and prostate.
