Join Us in Supporting Older People in LS9 with Burmantofts Community Friends!

Who are BCF?

Burmantofts Community Friends (BCF) is a local charity in East Leeds, dedicated to improving the lives of people aged 55+ in the LS9 area. We provide practical support through fun activities like lunch groups, coffee mornings, fitness sessions, trips, events, and more! We also offer advocacy, outreach, and well-being services. Our team is friendly, informal, and always ready to make a positive impact, working closely with residents, volunteers, and local professionals.

What Will a Community Driver Volunteer Do?

As a Community Driver Volunteer with Burmantofts Community Friends (BCF), you will play a vital role in supporting local residents aged 55+ in the LS9 area. Your main responsibility will be providing safe and reliable transport for individuals attending our fun activities, events, fitness sessions, trips, and other community services. You’ll assist people with mobility challenges, ensuring they have a comfortable and stress-free journey to and from our services. This might include driving to lunch groups, coffee mornings, outings, and well-being sessions, helping to create positive and inclusive experiences for all. Please note the vehicle is an Automatic*

What Experience Do You Need?

  1. Driving License: A valid driving license and a good driving record are essential, along with the ability to safely operate a medium vehicle. Training is provided.

  2. Empathy and Patience: Previous experience working with older adults, or individuals with mobility challenges, is helpful, but a caring, patient, and understanding attitude is most important.

  3. Good Communication: Clear communication skills are essential to interact with passengers, understand their needs, and maintain positive relationships.

  4. Reliability and Punctuality: Being dependable and arriving on time for pick-ups and drop-offs is key to ensuring participants can rely on the service.

  5. Teamwork: While the role is independent, being able to work well with the BCF team and follow instructions or changes in schedule is important.

  6. Basic Problem-Solving: Ability to assess situations and address minor challenges that may arise during transportation (e.g., ensuring a passenger’s comfort or managing a last-minute schedule change).

BCF provides full training and support, so even if you do not have direct experience, we welcome your enthusiasm and willingness to help others!
