Online Befriending to a Young Person with Long Term Illness

Remote
Unpaid role, expenses paid
Voluntary
Job description

Bright Futures UK works with young people who are suffering from long-term, serious illnesses, both mental and physical in nature. We are urgently looking for lovely, warm, and energetic personalities to provide social support to them. As a Befriender, you will play a key role in boosting a young person’s confidence, being an extra person in their support circle and providing a distraction from their illness to enable them to feel a sense of normality.

We like to tailor programmes to the young person’s individual needs and will ensure that we match you in a programme with someone you may have common ground with. Sessions can involve activities such as crafting, book talks, gaming, music, or just general chat.

Volunteering with Bright Futures UK can easily fit into your working day or busy schedule, with commitments starting from as little as one hour per week.

Our sessions are all currently online and we can work around what time commitment and flexibility you have. We are so grateful for any support you might be able to provide, as are our young people.

Practical Considerations:

We cover all expenses and materials used.
We are asking for one hour online a week.
DBS will be provided where needed
Safeguarding training provided with certification
