Chair

Autism West Midlands is the leading charity in the West Midlands for autistic people. We are seeking a new Chair to join our Board. 

What will you be doing?

The role of the Chair is to provide strong leadership and direction to the Board of Trustees to enable the Board to fulfil their responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation. As the Chair you will ensure that the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or statutory regulations. You will work in partnership with the Chief Executive to achieve the aims of the organisation; and to optimise the relationship between the Board of Trustees and the staff team.

Time Commitment

• The Board meets at least four times a year at the organisation’s premises at head office in Birmingham 
• Attend three committee meetings a year 
• Attend planning meetings 
• Facilitate one to ones with the CEO 
• Attend fundraising and engagement events throughout the year in Birmingham

What are we looking for?

We are seeking a dynamic individual with the following qualifications and attributes: 

• A strong record of strategic and operational leadership 
• Good interpersonal and communication skills demonstrating tact and diplomacy 
• The ability to work collaboratively with the Board and the Executive team 
• A commitment to the Charity and its aims and objectives and the trustee commitment guidance
• Demonstrate integrity, strategic vision and sound, independent judgement 
• Understanding of key issues relating to people living with care and support needs of autistic people and other disabilities 
• Access to key figures and networks in the statutory, voluntary and commercial sectors 
• Full understanding of the responsibilities of a non-executive Trustee’s role in a charity and appropriate governance structures
• An awareness of trends in the social care and charity sectors, particularly in the context of current economic austerity measures
