Job description

Leeds University Union – Every student loves their time at Leeds

About Leeds University Union

Leeds University Union (LUU) is a charity that helps represents over 39,000 students at the University of Leeds. Our aims as a charity are to support, enable and represent our students to ensure they get the most out of their time at Leeds and have fun while they are here.

We turnover £10 million per year and invest our money back into services such as Help & Support, Student Activities, Academic and Political Engagement.

We are delighted to be inviting applications for candidates with a strong background in HR, People and Culture, Organisation Development, Voluntary Sector leadership or Higher Education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing strong strategic leadership and oversight for the organisation.

  • Ask questions and provide challenges and support to ensure we’re operating effectively as a charity.

  • Providing oversight of policies and activities to ensure they are legal, financially viable and do not negatively impact Leeds University Union’s reputation.

  • Build strong relationships within the Board and the wider LUU community.

  • Ensuring the financial stability of Leeds University Union.

Why Join LUU as a Trustee?

  • A fantastic opportunity to support a vibrant charity and membership organisation.

  • A chance to work with a diverse group of Trustees with a variety of skills and experiences.

  • We offer a range of in-house training and access to trusteeship development through bodies like NCVO and Civil Society.

Who Are We Looking For?

  • Commitment to LUU and its vision and values and a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort.

  • Proven ability to think strategically and exercise good, independent judgement.

  • An ability to think creatively and a willingness to speak their mind.

  • An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.

  • The ability to work effectively as a member of a team and accept corporate responsibility.

Our Commitment to Diversifying our Board

In order for us to be able to make sure every student is able to celebrate who they are, shape their university experience, and feel connected to a community, we need to continue to innovate and make sure we champion diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in everything that we do. This means having a commitment to supporting a diverse and inclusive Trustee Board.

We would particularly welcome applications from Black and Asian candidates, those who identify as women or non-binary, and disabled candidates, in order to improve representation of these groups on our Board.
