Our Southbourne Memory Clubs meet once a week for two hours on Thursdays and are for those within our community who have a diagnosis of dementia. The Clubs follow a programme of themed activities, carried out over several weeks in small groups, with each session covering a different topic, each designed to improve the mental abilities and memory of someone with dementia.
The volunteer role is to assist the facilitator who runs the group, helping to make the experience welcoming, safe and enjoyable for all our clients.
Our volunteers really enjoy the role! Here's what they say -
- "I find volunteering for Age UK so rewarding. The facilitators are very friendly and the participants of the various groups are immensely appreciative. The sessions are fun and it makes me very happy to be able to make a small contribution to the wellbeing of our members."
- "I really love being a Memory Club Volunteer. It's a most rewarding role and feels great to be part of such a lovely, friendly team."
- "It’s so lovely spending time helping out at the group. There is always so much laughter.”
This is a great opportunity to be a vital part in this service, helping to support older people in our community.
