Job description

Are you passionate about making a difference in your community? Do you have experience in fundraising, governance, or building corporate partnerships? If so, we want you to join our team! We're looking for dedicated trustees to help 2497 (Cosford) Squadron thrive and shape the future of our organisation.

About us

At 2497 (Cosford) Squadron, we are part of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, a national youth organisation that offers young people aged 12 to 20 the opportunity to develop valuable skills, gain experiences, and make lifelong friendships. Our squadron is dedicated to fostering personal development, leadership, and teamwork through a variety of exciting activities, including flying, sports, community service, and adventure training.

As a trustee, you will support our mission to empower the next generation by providing guidance and resources to enhance the experiences we offer. Our Civilian Welfare Committee consists of passionate trustees who help ensure the smooth running of the squadron, focusing on governance, fundraising, and community engagement.

Through your involvement, you’ll be helping to create a positive impact on the lives of our cadets, guiding them as they navigate their formative years and inspiring them to achieve their full potential. Together, we can make a difference in our community and contribute to the rich legacy of the Air Cadets, fostering values such as respect, integrity, and service.

Why become a trustee?

Joining 2497 (Cosford) Squadron offers numerous benefits, including:

  • Skill Development: Gain experience in governance, fundraising, and community engagement.
  • Leadership Opportunities: Enhance your leadership qualities through active participation.
  • Personal Fulfilment: Enjoy a tremendous sense of achievement from helping young people realise their potential.

What we’re looking for:

To join us as a trustee, you should:

  • Be aged 18 years or older.
  • Have lived in the UK for at least 3 years.
  • Commit to attending a 2-hour meeting every three months.
  • Understand the needs of young people and demonstrate patience, responsibility, and kindness.
  • We particularly welcome candidates with charity experience, especially in fundraising, governance, or corporate partnerships.

We understand that our trustees may have families, jobs, and hobbies, so we offer flexibility to work around your commitments. All we ask in return is clear communication, good organisation, and a commitment to the squadron.

You don’t need:

  • A military background or experience.
  • Experience working with young people.
  • Specific skills like flying or gliding.

Typical joining process:

  1. Submit an expression of interest.
  2. Be invited to complete an online application.
  3. Undergo a DBS and basic security check.

The process from your initial enquiry to starting as a trustee can take several weeks, depending on current volunteer availability, as we conduct necessary safeguarding checks.

Ready to make an impact? If you're excited about this opportunity and want to contribute to the growth and success of our squadron, we’d love to hear from you!
