What the job involves

We’re seeking a Digital Channels Officer to join our Web Operations Team covering maternity leave on a fixed term basis.

In this role, you’ll play a key part in managing content for our website, ensuring that all information is up-to-date and impactful. You’ll be responsible for publishing digital updates via the content management system (CMS) to ensure timely, high-quality, and consistent content across the website. Working closely with colleagues across Prostate Cancer UK, you’ll provide guidance on our online presence and help deliver engaging digital experiences for all our audiences.

Your day-to-day will include editing, proofreading, and publishing content that resonates with our audience. You’ll also help train internal teams on our content management system.

Collaborating with our Web Operations Team, you’ll spot opportunities for improvement and contribute to larger projects, helping us continually improve our site and deliver results more efficiently.

What we want from you

We’re looking for someone with solid experience in writing, editing, and proofreading web content who is comfortable authoring basic HTML and preparing web images with accessibility requirements in mind. You'll be skilled in using content management systems (ideally Umbraco) to build and update web pages.

You’ll need the technical skills to author and edit basic HTML, as well as prepare and edit images for the web. A solid working knowledge of interpreting website analytics, including experience with Google Analytics and search engine optimisation techniques, is essential. You’ll be an excellent communicator, skilled at explaining complex analytics and technical details in a clear, approachable way for non-technical colleagues.

In this role, you’ll also need the ability to prioritise tasks and handle tight deadlines, negotiate effectively, and manage challenging conversations when needed. Experience with online community moderation and staying informed on current web tools and trends will be advantageous as we continuously improve our site.

About The Hope Foundation for Street Children (HOPE UK)

The objective of HOPE UK is to raise awareness and funds for street-connected children and slum dwelling communities in Kolkata, India.  We provide support to The Hope Kolkata Foundation which delivers 57 projects on the ground.  HOPE UK was established in 2008, and over the past four years alone has raised over £1 million. HOPE UK also currently supports 595 street-connected children in Kolkata, whose education and general healthcare needs are sponsored by UK donors.  

Providing the children in HOPE’s care with protection, healthcare, counselling, life skills, and education enables them enter into adulthood equipped and empowered to fulfil their potential and build healthy and happy lives with improved opportunities for their future.  HOPE UK is a non-denominational, non-political humanitarian organisation.

The Role
Are you passionate about communication and marketing with lots of creative ideas? We’re looking for an experienced Communications & Marketing professional to diversify and grow our UK supporter base. You will be responsible for our communications and digital marketing strategy to drive and increase supporter engagement. Working remotely, you will be an integral part of a small team in the UK, reporting to the Head of Fundraising and collaborating with colleagues in India and Ireland.

Key Responsibilities

• Proactively create captivating and impactful content to support UK fundraising and advocacy objectives to broaden HOPE UK’s online presence and brand awareness.
• To optimise and increase engagement across social media platforms by identifying relevant opportunities to engage with online influencers, patrons and ambassadors, third parties, and key UK supporters in order to raise awareness of HOPE UK’s activities and programmes in Kolkata.
• Scheduling and sharing content provided by HOPE Kolkata, HOPE UK’s Head of Fundraising, and third-party supporters, and adapting this content to create engaging posts across HOPE UK’s platforms.
• Monitoring and managing HOPE UK’s social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and setting up a new LinkedIn account).Responding and engaging with comments, as needed. The role requires flexibility to enable monitoring channels.
• Managing HOPE UK’s communications calendar and overseeing content to ensure a consistent tone and brand across all channels.
• Ensuring HOPE UK’s compliance with law [website] copyright and data protection.

Experience and Skills

·Experience working in a Communications & Marketing role within the charity sector, preferably an international children’s charity.

·Experience of successfully increasing supporter engagement online and analysing results.

·A sound understanding of SEO, web metrics, analytics, and keyword search.

·Knowledge of various social media channels and understanding of the granularity of audiences.

·Experience of using a range of multi-media tools (e.g., Canva, InDesign) to create engaging content to support fundraising campaigns, increase brand awareness, and help drive donations. 

·Knowledge of maximising sponsored campaigns and creating targeted posts (notably, on LinkedIn).

·An aptitude to work both independently and as part of a small team who all work remotely. 

·A sound knowledge of English (written and verbal).

·Copywriting experience would be beneficial.  

·Good communication and networking skills and an ability to liaise with multiple stakeholders.

·An ability to think both creatively and strategically.

·Experience working with and managing Google Ads/GDN 

·Experience of writing and pitching press releases an advantage.

·Knowledge of updating a website (WordPress and WooCommerce).

·Knowledge of a CRM (Beacon) and optimising data integrations and web forms

A pivotal role for the Fund the Digital Manager will develop and deliver the Fund’s digital communications and digital fundraising strategy, designed to generate income and increasing awareness of the Fund’s activities and services. An innovative thinker the Digital Manager will take the lead on developing digital excellence, proposing and implementing digital campaigns plus standalone activities for both fundraising and non-fundraising purposes, support the digital elements of fundraising activity, manage the website and social media channels, have responsibility for managing external agencies, meeting performance expectations, income generation, control of expenditure. 

The role is based in our London HQ and currently work a minimum of three days in the office per week. The successful candidate for this role will need to prove they have the right to work in the UK.

DFN Project SEARCH is delivering transformative change, supporting, and helping young people with learning disabilities and autism into the world of work. Nationally only 4.8% of people with special educational needs and disabilities gain permanent paid employment in the UK yet 70 percent of DFN Project SEARCH graduates gain jobs, 60 percent of them achieving full-time permanent roles.

You will be required to improve the quality and outcomes of existing DFN Project SEARCH programmes across a geographical area. This is with the aim of supporting the organisations to ensure that every intern has the best possible chance to gain full-time paid employment. The focus of this role is to ensure continuous improvement across all sites, relating to model fidelity and outcomes. This relates particularly to sites achieving less than 60% employment outcomes. 

Our model means that our regional Programme Specialists form new partnerships and develop new DFN Project SEARCH sites, supporting them through to year one of delivery. These sites will then be passed to our Programme Impact Co-ordinator team where you will then be required to continue to nurture these strong partnerships and provide ongoing training and support to colleagues within your region. You may also be required to support colleagues by promoting DFN Project SEARCH in other areas and contribute to the development of relevant new focussed materials and resources.
