Racing Welfare is a national charity supporting all those working and retired from the British horseracing and thoroughbred breeding industry. We are seeking an advisory committee member who shares our vision that everyone from the horseracing and breeding industry and community feels supported and has the opportunity to thrive.
The Racing Welfare group – including our housing association, Racing Homes – has exciting times ahead as we seek to secure long-term sustainable funding for our core services and plan the expansion and reorganisation of our housing portfolio.
We are looking for someone who has a passion for the work that we do and who is familiar with the challenges of running a national organisation.
What are we looking for?
We are seeking to add to the expertise that we have on either the Finance Investment & Audit committee or the Housing Committee (Racing Homes) through enthusiastic individuals who are looking to develop their own skills and experience. We are particularly look for those with:
· Experience and expertise in charity audit and statutory compliance, preferably someone who has held a senior position in an audit firm or is otherwise familiar with charity SORP; or
· Professional experience with construction projects and the build environment; or
· Legal expertise in the property or social housing sector.
Please note, as this post will involve governing and advising on services that have direct contact with young people and vulnerable adults alongside some work of a sensitive nature it will be subject to a satisfactory, enhanced DBS disclosure. We also make checks on staff working with vulnerable adults and young people against the DBS barred lists.
What will you be doing?
Our committees meet up to four times a year - usually twice via video-call and twice in person. The meetings are currently routinely attended by at least three trustees along with other advisory committee members, as well as relevant members of the Executive Team. The meetings are held to discuss strategic matters, as well as report on significant current challenges or issues, and to assist the main board with high level decision making.
There will also be the requirement to undertake a committee member induction which we anticipate being a one-off one-day commitment. Each year, in addition to the committee meetings we anticipate another two days commitment would be required.
We invite committee members to join the Charity for an initial period of three years with the possibility of Trusteeship after one year.
What difference will you make?
Demand for Racing Welfare and Racing Homes’ services is higher than ever and in common with the charity sector as a whole funding those services is increasingly more challenging.
Racing Welfare continues to review, improve and expand a large portfolio of welfare and wellbeing services which make a significant difference to the lives of individuals working in horseracing, their employers, the horse racing industry and in turn, communities and society.
Racing Homes currently has 165 units of accommodation housing young people, working age staff and retirees from the Racing industry. We have housing schemes in Newmarket, Lambourn, Middleham and Malton and have advanced plans for new schemes in two of those locations, providing more than thirty additional new units of accommodation.
What is in it for you?
You will enjoy working alongside and learning from an inspiring and knowledgeable team of executives, committee members and trustees. You will have the opportunity to develop your board member skills and there may be opportunity to progress to a trustee position after 12 months.
Applications will close on 18th November 2024.

Tender works first and foremost with young people, meaning our work is always varied and constantly evolving. We are therefore lucky to receive the support and guidance from our Youth Board, who meet monthly to develop Tender’s activities and direction, and explore innovative ways of engaging young people in a way that stays relevant to them.
What is the Tender Youth Board?
Tender’s Youth Board is an advisory group that supports the on-going development and delivery of Tender’s work. As a youth-based organisation, the board play a vital role in guiding how we engage young people in conversations around healthy relationships, domestic abuse and sexual violence, and promote the issue to wider society. We do this by getting young people to work closely with members from every department of the Tender team and its Board of Trustees.
The Youth Board support Tender’s work by:
- Developing and delivering awareness raising campaigns and blogs
- Contributing ideas for projects and resources
- Reviewing Tender’s activities that are used in workshops with young people
- Discussing current events and policy happening in the Violence Against Women and Girls sector
- Contributing to Tender’s recruitment processes
- Reviewing bids that Tender submit to funders for new work

At Tender we also understand that schedules can change, and other responsibilities can get in the way of volunteering sometimes, so if you are unable to meet this requirement, we can have a chat with you and look at next steps together. For some, this might mean arranging other volunteering tasks that can be completed remotely or making a flexible arrangement.
How we support you
Three members of the Tender team support the Youth Board by running the interactive and creative meetings, and planning the year’s activities. They will be available during your time on the Youth Board to ensure you get the most out of volunteering with us.

From providing input into and evaluating our programmes, to designing new campaign and social media ideas, you will have the opportunity to develop your written and communication skills and shape what we do to serve young people. All training offered by Sculpt is open and free to Advisory Board members. Please note that being a YAB member is a volunteer role.
Travel expenses for in-person meetings are reimbursed, and we make adjustments where needed to remove barriers to participation. This can include providing support/ assistance for online participation or covering the costs of a personal assistant/carer or interpreter/translator if YAB members use one, for example.
About the open roles
We are currently hiring for YAB General Members. Please read the role description below to determine if it will fit your interests and experiences. However, please do not be discouraged from applying if you have limited prior work experience or knowledge in these areas. We are most interested in finding candidates who are passionate about our work and are eager to learn.
YAB General Member
As a YAB General Member, you will ensure that Sculpt pursues its organisational objectives, provide strategic direction to the organisation’s work, and attend meetings and prepare for them in advance if needed. There will be opportunities to get involved in various areas of our work across fundraising, programme design and evaluation, policies, communications, and social media.
The Sculpt team will help facilitate the collaboration with the YAB and bring you opportunities to contribute to. At the same time, we are always open to hear your thoughts and advice on how we can continue being effective and responsive. You will be well-supported by us, other YAB members, and the YAB Chair.
Looking for young people 14-25 years old, with a focus on those 14-18 years old (but young people up to 25 years can apply).
We also want to add that members must be available for an online meeting once a month at either lunchtimes or early evenings. - this is to manage expectations as the younger age people will have less control over their own diaries/timings as it will depend on school, parents, hobbies etc
How to apply
We can’t wait to receive your application and learn more about you! Please make sure to include:
● A short CV (max. one A4 page)
● A cover letter explaining your interest in the position – this is more important than having prior experience! (max. one A4 page)
Upon successful appointment, two character references will be requested. These do not have to be from previous employers. We want to hear from someone who knows you and can speak to your character and abilities.
Sculpt is an inclusive organisation and we embrace diversity because we know that bringing together people with different experiences, perspectives and backgrounds will lead to even greater results for young people. We encourage applications from young people from all backgrounds, identities and lived experiences including those who are LGBTQIA+, Black, Asian or another minority ethnicity, disabled, young carers, refugees, and from low-income backgrounds.
The application deadline is 8th of December 2024.
We look forward to hearing from you!

Underfall Yard Trust Seeks Honorary Treasurer
The role requires an estimated time commitment of 4-6 hours per month. Unremunerated with expenses reimbursed
Bristol-based meetings in-person & remote login
Underfall Yard Trust was founded in the 1990s as a small team restored Underfall Yard’s slipway and the surrounding buildings. The Trust is now responsible for the preservation of the whole site, including Grade II and II* listed buildings of historical and architectural significance. The site includes a visitor centre to educate the public on the history of Underfall Yard within Bristol’s floating harbour, and workshop buildings that are let out to independent maritime businesses.
In May 2023, Underfall Yard was the victim of an arson attack. Thankfully, nobody was injured, but the Big Shed, workshops, and six boats were destroyed, devastating the businesses that call the Yard home and the wider Underfall community. The Trust is in the process of restoring the historic structures and rebuilding the workshops to again provide spaces for Bristol’s maritime businesses. They’re seeking an Honorary Treasurer to support this recovery project, alongside other initiatives.
As the Honorary Treasurer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial health and stability of Underfall Yard Trust. Working closely with the Director and team of Trustees, you’ll help deliver the Trust’s strategic goals and ensure compliance with regulatory bodies. Your responsibilities will include supporting the fundraising committee with income-generation strategies and assisting with financial reporting for grant applications. You will contribute towards the preservation of this historic boatyard by identifying potential risks and developing a long-term financial plan.
Underfall Yard Trust hopes to hear from enthusiastic individuals with a strong understanding of financial principles, budgeting and financial reporting. The successful candidate will have proven experience managing Charity finances and a solid grasp of statutory and regulatory compliance within the nonprofit sector.
For this role, you don’t need to be a boat enthusiast or an expert on industrial engineering history (but great if you are!). Underfall are looking for someone who wants to make a difference and can lend their time and financial expertise to a local, independent Charity.
For further details and to apply, please contact Sandy Hinks or Leighann Beck quoting the applicable reference number: MC2509 Closing date Midnight 24th November 2024.
